I'm only interested in seamless housing like SWG but heard they're doing these massive islands and was wondering if they're allowing housing on them or if it's lame, instanced and pointless.
But there will be very large guild (or even single-player) dimensions that can have public settings so people can enter public dimensions as they wish.
So one could maybe go 'dimension surfing' visiting people.
SWG housing was terrible imo. Cuz you'd be traveling in a speeder, and all of a sudden you're bumping into buildings, cuz they didn't load fast enough for you to avoid them. :<

Then problem was game engine or internet connection not make building loading fast enough and not house itself.
Don't udnerstand your logic
Anyway houses in Rift are instanced and that's not a surprise.

Dynamic lots
Player cities
Administration panels
Customizable vendors
Customizable interiors
Crafting terminals
Storage
No other game has come close to the housing freedom that swg offered.

It was the game engine used by SWG and it's ability to populate the objects in view in a timely manner, and you know it happened to everyone, good or bad IP connections.

So in return, SWG housing was terrible.
No. If your problem is housing appearing too late and you bumping into it, then it was engine problem not housing one.

Fact of the matter is, that implementation of such housing was not the correct choice.

Close ur eyes and keep that dream alive :P

Anarchy Online player cites have most of that stuff too. And more. Well, they are missing the players. But hey, can't have everything.

It is not fact. Housing in SWG was brilliant, much better one of best in whoe mmorpg genre.
Only thing wrong wth housing (not engine) was that devs have not implemented good way to get rid of not used homes. (like send it to bank as item after ~2 months of not playing and allow player to place it in other place on the world or in the same place if it is still free, for no cost and with all things inside)
Darkfall and SWG are both mmos. The similarities stop there.
Who the hell is comparing anything other then the housing ? Did u even read anything at all in this thread? or just find the one single thing u can troll about ?

No matter how cool the idea is, if there is no way to seamlessly and effectively implement it, it is still a bad idea.

If idea is implemented bad then implementation is bad and not the idea. It is possible to implement open housing without "bumping into them" while travelling it was proven in other games.

SWG housing done in today's technology would be pretty amazing.
Maybe even get STREETS to place between buildings with today's tech.
But, its not going to happen. WoW is still the design basis.
