Am I going to have fun playing this game?

Hi,
I've wanted to play this game ever since it came out, but for one reason or another I never did. I played Gemstone IV for a while - so I am not exactly new to this - but I've never played a game that wasn't text based.
I've read a lot of negative things about this game - particularly in relationship to the growing Jedi population and the number of bugs. Am I gonna have a good time playing? The trailer for this game makes it look like the coolest thing ever.
I was thinking it would be fun to play as a bounty hunter/smuggler rougish type. If I don't give into the temptation and sell my soul for a lightsabre, will I be alright?
Also I was just wondering about the space combat. Is it like X Wing style dogfights - or is it pretty much point and click type stuff? Also is it even possible to have a character that has two professions - like a bounty hunter/smuggler hybrid?
Anyway, I appreciate any thoughts. I'm just trying to figure out if I should give in to my inner child and play a Star Wars game or sift through the hundreds of other games out there. Thanks.

I used to love the game, now I can't stand anything about it but JTL.
But give it a whirl if ya want. Personally, I'd try a free trial of World of Warcraft or something else just to get your feet wet before you buy this.

I think you will have fun.
Space Expansion is seat of pants dogfighting - not point and click. Its a twitch flight sim, to be played with a joystick.
Its a good idea to start on an active server, but not an overpopulated one (like Bria). I can recommend Naritus or Europe-Chimaera or Europe-Farstar. On Naritus I can help you get started as Novarider or Delos (and several other posters here also play on Naritus ... there is even a thread for it named "Naritus rocks" I think).
Yes, there are bugs .. but not as many as people post. Yes, there are Jedi, but usually concentrated in only a few locations (they grind their sould out to advance in Jedi skills .. usually on Dantooine). If you stay out of mad grinder country, you dont see as many Jedi as people describe. And I strongly recommend you ENJOY the game and DONT fall into the Jedi grinder-burn-out trap. There is so much to see.
You should get the Total Experience Box .. only 30 bucks (basic game, 2 expansions, one month free). Rage of the Wookies expansion has some interesting quests and rewards.
Combat is now harder and more interesting. Grouping - while not necessary - helps a lot.

I find the game to be tons of fun, so much to do and my server has an awesome community. If you do decide to play, I recommend playing on Naritus. Great bunch of people on there including a few from the forums here.
Plenty of bitter ex players will doubtlessley chime in here and tell you a million and one reasons why not to play it, but they are sad individuals and their hate for the game speaks more for how much fun they had than any problems they might bring to light. A whole slew of people just can't seem to get over this game.
Will you have fun? Hell yes!
