PC specs I'm building for DFUW

wrekognizewrekognize Member UncommonPosts: 388

They have not released recommended specs, but this is what I'm looking at so far. Any suggestions? I'm really not sure if the motherboard is okay for this build. This is my first time building one. I'm also considering adding a solid state drive. Anyone play DF1 who used a solid state drive? did you find it useful?

I'lll preface this post by saying this is the worst place to look for computer related advice.

    - You cant go wrong with a quality SSD

Whats your upgrade cycle, are you planning on running this system for 2 + years?

    - Might want to consider the deluxe version with SLI

    - Might want to consider a QUAILITY 750+ watt

It would be much easier to just post links to newegg for your parts, and it would be much better to have this moved to the hardware section.  There are some very knowledgeable people that post there.

Why are you concerned about SSDs?

Why are you adding liquid cooling?

Step 1:  Build the best possible computer you can afford.

Step 2: Turn the graphics settings all the way down.

Step 3:  Play Darkfall like a boss!!

PS. Thats really all you need to know.

But if you want to know the biggest bang for your buck get as high a processor speed as possible.  (rated by each core's processing power)  So for a game like DF quadcore 3.5 is going to be significantly better than a quadcore 2.8 or like one of the new eightcores clocked in the 2.5's.  High single core speed is what you are looking for here.  Use 3.0 ghz as your baseline if its below that don't even consider buying it.

Get a solid video card as well, you don't have to break the bank here though spend like $200 on one and you'll be set.

SSD is great for putting windows on, the original DF does perform slightly better on my ssd, but invest your money in a solid cpu and vid card first they will give you a much bigger performance increase than the ssd does.

Thanks for the reply. I would have posted on newegg or a technical site, but then someone who plays WOW would be giving me advice. I definitely don't want that.

(I wanted to post this on DF's forum, but they are restricting my access since my account is no longer active).

I find that going to the store ends up cheaper... no shipping time except me driving...

Anything goes wrong I can take it back no questions asked.

They got people there who know what they are talking about... if you need help.

Prices are cheaper.. which is pretty bad... only downside is you got to pay taxes if you don't already have to online.

I see people spending all this money... my computer I built almost 2 years ago is better than literally all the stuff being posted... minus the graphics card... those tend to be slightly better.

I can only imagine buying this nearly 2 year old stuff now shouldn't be more than $300-400 max.

My comp is 7 years old and Im playing TSW on medium settings, I'm sure my comp can run DF as well. =)

To the OP, your specs are way above what you will need.

Those who played the first one.

    Will this handle dfuw?

    Fx4black, 6870, 8gb ddr3, ssd
  • phantomghostphantomghost Member UncommonPosts: 738

DF1 did not take make really.

Make sure you got a video card not the onboard lol... good enough videocard may run you $80-$200... maybe less.  Like stated before get a decent processor.  You can get a nice i7 or for much cheaper get top of the line i5 and be set.

Ram is a joke... 32g will run ya like $40-80 depending on sales... so that should never be a question.

The SSD will help but not needed.

I always hate shadows.. I don't think they help.. so turn them off .. put headphones on or turn your volume up and you can hear footsteps etc...

Game does not take much.  Update any old drivers you have.. I know I am bad about doing that and then sometimes games will pop up with the your using old drivers and this may not work...

Well the deal on performance in DF all depends on what you are looking to do.  If you only ever plan on small fights of 10-20 people then no worries any pos computer built in the last 7-8 years will do just fine.  IF you want to have good performance in siege battles THEN you will need  top of the line equipment.  DF sieges can be hundreds of people vs. hundreds of people so the system requirements to function with decent fps can go up dramatically.

    How I'll be playing:

    AMD fx 6200 6 cores at 3.8 (oc'd 4.5)

    Radeon HD 6950

    16 gigs 1800mhz ram

I don't expect amazing performance, but with graphics down in a siege environment I expect solid performance and the ability to kill everyone else who is stuck at 4 fps lol.

Take another moterboard. I say this mainly because it seem to lack  PCIe 3. I know that there is a little diffrent between PCIe 2 and PCIe 2 in benchmarks/games but if you buy new pc stuff you want ofc the newest :)

Otherwise it seems to be a good buy. What brand on the PSU are you going for? And why are you going for a Aseteks cpu cooler? There is cheaper and better solutions to cool the cpu with :)

Eve online and +1500 steam games in the back cataloge makes me a stressed out gamer.

Your build will be fine for DFUW.

Just as DF1 was, DFUW will probably not take advantage of multi core processors, so the main thing to look at is the core speed of your cpu, 3.4ghz is fine. anything over 3.0ghz is good, just gets better and better the faster you go.

Secondary to DF is the video card. Any decent 100ish dollar video card will be fine for DFUW (if you have at least a 3.0ghz cpu)

For a minimum spec I would recommend at least a GTX 550 and 3.0ghz cpu dual/quad/etc doesnt matter. and anything higher than that of course will bring in nice gains.

There are minimual gains from a SSD for darkfall . But I would have a SSD vs HDD for everyday usage anyways, so if your're buying a new HDD today I would go with a 80-90dollar 128gbSSD and than 500 or 1GB HDD 7200 for storage instead of a 2tb HDD.

And youre basing this off of?

I asked about SLI at a store recently when I was shopping for a new GPU. I was told it was a joke and a waste of money by the tech guy behind the counter. He basically said I was better of just buying the best GPU I could afford and upgrade it whenever I need to, main;y because there are so few games that will need it. This confused me somewhat since whenever I look at benchmarks I see SLI rigs at the top.

Based off of gamers, playing DF1.

The devs did say over 18months ago that DF1 would take advantage of multicore processors "soon".... but that never happened and was never spoken about ever again.

It "is" possible that DFUW will actually take advantage... but DF1 didnt and that is for certain.

  • BadaboomBadaboom Member UncommonPosts: 2,380
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't df1 utilize only dual core CPUs?
  • ChaosChestChaosChest Member UncommonPosts: 97

    not even dual core.

DF1 production started what 8-10 years ago and DF2 2 years ago?. Why would they talk about it again when they planned on building a new game?

Anyway unless youve beta'd DF2 youre talking out your ass regarding its system requirements.

Most of the retail computer "experts" dont know Sh#t?  I will agree get the best card you can afford now, but its always nice to have the option of getting another later. (SLI/XFire)

I agree with the retail expert. Get the best performing card that you can afford. Sli uses so much power.

What you heard is basically the truth. SLi/Crossfire is the biggest waste of money ever. The thing about SLi/Crossfire is that its only shows its true potential when you start gaming at resolutions higher than full HD. Sure when you look at benchmarks, SLi/Crossfire rigs will always score higher than the ones without it, but the performance gain for the amount of cash you spent going SLi/Crossfire is often so little (and even next to nothing sometimes) that it's completely stupid if you don't play your games at a minimum resolution of 1920x1200 with maxed settings.

I just built a new pc and tested out my fps on darkfall on diff settings.

    My build:

    i5 3570k

    gtx 660

    some gigabyte motherboard

    8gb ram

    128gb SSD

    Results:

    150-250 fps low settings

55-75 fps with max everything, 16x antialiasing or w/e thats called

My fps would probably drop 80-100 or so in huge battles since that was how it was like on my old pc. I hope this gave you an idea of how your pc would perform in the current df at least. I'm sure df uw will be much better with optimization which will result in higher fps and playability

Df 1.0 is unoptimized and poorly coded.
