Will customization every be improved? As it is right now is terrible.

Right now you need to either spend real money or -a lot- of EXP to unlock a female character..? And there's very view customization options right now. Any word on how much more will be added?

Playing a semi-unique looking character that others would recognize in a game like this would be useful.

    Answer: Alpha.

From your post history, it seems that answer isn't good enough for you, but it really is the current answer to all of your questions.

My advice is for you, based on your concerns and issues, to wait until release. Not just for this game, but for any game.

They say it's alpha, but what Alpha is only two weeks long?

It's 2012, female character should not be unlocked solely by cash purchase or EXP in game, it should be a choice from the start.

Regardless of whether this is alpha, beta or simple concept stage of the game.

ER, not if your goal is to maximize your revenue from the game, making female characters a cash purchase is brilliant.

Yeah, alpha or not, that sounds absurd.  Not a good sign, no matter what stage of development the game is in.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Yes, I agree, it's a shame that so much stuff that should come as standard gets shoehorned in to a cash shop.

The game is a purchase too, it's not a free to play so to have females locked seems insane.

Day Z never had female characters but once the community asked enough the male/female choice was finally added to the mod.

Would YOU pay to play a female character?  I certainly wouldn't.  I wouldn't play a game that charged for something that basic, at all.

edit: Reason I ask about you specifically, is because it seems like people often praise cash shop items that they think other people would be interested in, but not themselves.  As someone who does play female characters a lot, I have to say, no, this is not something I'd be at all willing to pay for.

I feel like the focus this alpha ( and every other alpha) should be on whether or not gameplay is smooth. Are there alot of bugs? How does the enviroment fit in with the over all theme of the game? Is it enjoyable? I mean this is a good note to write down and ask the devs in the servey you probably will get about how your enjoying the game but i don't feel like this is one of the more important questions to be asked at this time.Customization can easily be added in but gameplay is very hard to fix.

I wouldn't call the choice between male/female customisation.

Also this is alpha stage so this is definately something that should be brought up, anything can go in or out in alpha, bug fixing is not what Alpha is for, Alpha is for adding removing features and making sure the game works on a basic level.

Just imagine the nerd rage if the situation was reversed and you had to buy or unlock the male character.

Is it also true what I read on the forums that you can only pick the "white" skintone ?

  • TerranahTerranah Member UncommonPosts: 3,575

Well if you want to go down that road, why not make race a feauture available for purchase as well.  Maybe default characters are white males, but if you want to be black you have to pay extra.

Naaa, this is just another example of someone asleep at the wheel in design and development, if true.

We'll have to pay for all of them. And I guess each one is only going to have two head and clothing options? Great.

Actually you will be able to access everything in the cash shop with either experience or by obtaining gold coins(cs currency) by in game means(i.e killing rare zombies and extracting their stem cells and selling it on the market for gc).

The methods above apply only to character options, other than that whatever items there are in the cs are also findable throughout the world(mind you there are sinmple things like flares ).

So if Alpha is for making sure the game works on a basic level then wouldn't that include bug fixing? Again an Alpha is not a finish product and I agree that the alpha is for adding and changing features while making sure the ones in place work correcty.

But if they have a female character available for purchase then that's their way of implementing that option into the game. Now if you want that to change you should say so in the surveys handed out in almost ever Alpha/beta testing phase.I personally feel it's more important to focus on whether or not my character moves correctly, does the enviroment have noticable game changing glitches to them? That IS what an ALPHA is for.

It's not a bug that you have to pay to have a female character. They have taken a design decision not to have a female character available. This to me seems ridiculous, many women play games and would be more likely to play a game they can play as a female.

If you don't think it's a problem that in 2012 a woman can't select a female avatar in a game then I don't know what to say to you. Clearly some people are still living in the past where women are second class citizens.

To your first point, yes you can fix bugs in Alpha but it's not the main focus, closed beta is where the majority of bug fixing happens because by then your basics and features are nailed down. Why do you think that some games are in a closed beta stage for years? Beta is not just something that happens a few weeks before the game comes out to fix some basic bugs and give people a demo.

I worked in the games industry and in QA, I would not pay for the privelage of testing a game, it was barely "good" when getting paid to do it.

Why not take this up on the games own board or in a mail/letter to the devs...

But this is a Blpha and this only becomes a problem if it remains through to launch. But if i would take a guess this is a way to generate some quick cash for development  and anyone who buy the female unluck will have the coins for it refunded once the game goes "live"... It at least sounds like a logic way to go about it.

That being said, right now does it matter... The game is supposed to be in a stage where you are bound to run in to placeholder boxes instead of models and under construction skins instead of real textures... Or did the meaning of an aplha change since i last had a check.

Alpha tends to equal "bare-bones functionality"

This have been a good conversation

The point of the matter is that this isn't the place to voice that. I highly doubt devs from the game will visit this post therefore your complaining is ill placed. I like how you tried to take it to women being second class citizens when nothing that has been done by the game suggests so. Alpha is for bare bones testing and finding HUGE issues within the core of the game and to be honest both character models would work the same way so it really wouldn't matter if female models were added in the alpha or not.

It's not about equality it's about testing out more important things. I guess people would be ok with walking through the floor as long as we have both female and male models lol.
