I'm very interested in this game, and it looks like just the kind of MMORPG I've been waiting years for. I don't really know too much about the Conan world, though. Like a lot of people I was introduced to the character through the movie (don't hold that against me), and I even watched the Conan the Adventurer cartoon as a kid (I guess you can hold that against me). I know neither is totally faithful to the source material. I've never read any of the books or comics, and I know next to nothing about the Conan world. Can anyone suggest any websites or books to start out with?

I'd like to get some info on this too. The only exposure I've had is from the movie (so you're not alone there ).
The only other place I know of is via the comic books, and those are tough to find in my town. None of old high school buddies were comic collectors, so I can't bum off them. And anything I'd likely find on the net I wouldn't really trust as being true to the background.
Anybody out there have any suggestions?

ummm read the books? many are still available in bookstores, and i know that there is a compilation called "The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian" which contains several of the original stories. once your finished with Howards originals, then you can pick and choose from the many later novels published about Conan.
Recently a new series called "Age of Conan" has been released which doesn't directly relate to Conan himself, but takes place in his world.
the best way to discover the background of a literary character is to read it.

You can check out the Conan website. Theres a ton of books out there as Conan books have been around since the 1930's.

Did you know that there was also a TV series. Only lasted 22 episodes back 1997/98 and Conan was played by Ralf Moeller (big guy in Gladiator)
They are very good reading. I haven't read them since 1984 (the year not the literary work), so I'll be hunting them down shortly myself.

Two excellent books I can recommend for those wishing a good background to Conan are 'The people of the Black Circle' and 'The Hour of the Dragon' which are Vols 1 & 2 of the 'Conan Chronicles', a collection of all the orginal tales as they appeared in Weird Tales magazine. They also include REH's own history of Hyboria.

I'd heard there were compilation books of everything Howard wrote about Conan, are these two you mention what I've heard of? I've been trying to find the books Howard wrote, but I haven't been able to find anything.
The collection I've got are all original stories from REH as they appeared in Weird Tales magazine. The collection is published by Gollancz.
