Sorry but that is such a cheesy attempt of a rearrangement ("remix" is the wrong word mate),
Orchestra= detuned
Harmonic progression = awful
New part = lame
JW would have never scored it that way.
I must be tone deft .. because I enjoy hearing it. Detuned?, lol
If you hate the game, thats one thing. I can sympathize there. But the music was pretty good.
I'm still trying to wrap it around me .. Detuned.. lol :P
Compare to the original, that doesn´t mean I don´t like the game, but the new TOR ingame music doesn´t live up to any track by JW. They should have used more material by JW. There are some tracks in game by JW, but not enough.
There is only so much music by John Williams (JW). But I agree JW did it best. JW had power when he did composition.
But SWTOR was a new generation. Composers tried to capture the moment and put it into hours of music for a MMORPG. It can't all be JW, but it was pretty good none-the-less.
JW didn't compose enough for a MMORPG, so it was improvised.

I hate the F2P model, but I love the art.. will that make me a .. . is there a word to describe a lover and a hater?
Actually if you read my posts, you'd realize my best interests are for Star Wars, even if I massively critisize EA and what they are doing :P
I have read many of your posts..some were a bit ....harsh. Perhaps from your point of view probroly so. Here's where I'm coming from....love the stories, pvp, and crafting. I don't like the themepark, rails starship combat, or limited character customization. I just take the game for what it is. IMO there are far worse games out there, but unfortunately SWTOR seems to be the proverbial punching bag. Oh we'll....
I'm a big Star Wars fan also. I remember sitting in the theater with my jaw to the floor when I was 7 years old watching the 1st movie.
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
I have to say that when the game first came out, I thought the music was pretty poor - rather ham-fisted knock-offs of the John Williams originals. I should have known then that this would be symptomatic of the whole approach taken by EA/BW to this game.
I know the fanbois hate comparisons of SWTOR with SWG but Star Wars Galaxies definitely had an edge in this area since it was allowed to use the original Williams music.
LOTRO (where you can even write your own) and AOC have better music just to name a pair. Star Wars scores have been heard at enough movies and football games to be worn and not so special anymore. They need to freshen up the style to maintain relavence.
I don't agree. Sure it's great music, but a lot of it is recycled from the movies or (I think) even the Clone Wars cartoon... which could have been recycled from the movies. Since John WIlliams is probably never going to write music exclusively for an MMO, and not many people are a tenth as talented as he is, they're pretty much forced to recycle if they want Star Wars style tunes.
I agree, the music was great! However, now that it's F2P it's in the realm of the welfare dogs so I'll never touch it again. I always wished they'd take a look at PVP or PVP balance or something...never really seemed to.
Of course it's all a matter of opinion but I have to disagree. AoC trumps ToR, and no helene bøksle didn't make me cry it was eye strain from playing to long.
I know its hokey, but my favorite music from an mmo still has to be Everquest 1. I just love the midi music from it. For example, the following link is from the boat ride you could take from freeport dock to butcherblock.
John Williams is an amazing composer so they had that ace up their sleeve. The rest of the music is ok. I thought TSW had some amazing tracks. Subtle and powerful. Really set the mood and enhanced the areas.
This is all subjective though There is no such thing as a universal best when talking about music, or games, or movies, or anything really haha

Age of Conan, Anarchy Online, and LoTRO has swtor beat in all of those categories imo. Swtor did have some pretty good music though.
I found the stories in SWTOR to be pretty bad really, and full of eye-roll moments. Not trying to troll, but the stories is SWTOR seem to be geared towards an early teenage crowd.
The leveling - well I dunno, couldn't even force myself to get past level 42 it was so bland.

LOL I actually think that SWTOR stories are much more appreciated by mature crowd, who appreciate it's humor and great liners. LOL to be honest I love "what did I just say?"moments in Inquisitor story:).
And believe me I am as far of teenage as possible and my yet older friend enjoyes the story as much as I do /grin
Edit. We all have different opinions. I could not pass AoC above level 30 - it was so boring and still did not get to max level in LOTRO - it's beyond boring.

And I wholeheartly agree. Variety and different tastes is what makes this Universe so amazing and refreshing:)
The most important thing is to understand that people like and dislike different things and to respect their opinions.

I'm sorry but this is definately the most epic and best MMO music of all time !
As much as I love EQ2 it's not a match to SWTOR music in my opinion.

I would probably put tsw at number 1 because of the variety.

If you like Aoc soundtrack, tsws is by the same people but slightly better imo. Check out Helen boksle - sirens song.
For me I muted music in SWTOR, in Tabula Rasa and Planetside 1 & 2 are some of the best music and I still listen to them.
Great thread OP.
I have been playing Guild-wars 2 for about a month and I find the music makes me sleepy as
opposed to games like WOW and SW:TOR which have thumping soundtracks that urge you on.
John Williams is one on my favourite movie score composers. Maybe we will get some
Hans Zimmers in MMO's soon.
One more piece of SWTOR background music that is my absolute favorite... though heeartbreaking
Spoiler: Quinn Betrayal. The music which starts when Quinn starts his conversation just gives me thrills....

Apart from the actual Star Wars theme, which is of course immortal:
GW2 music > SWTOR music.
Can't beat the morrowind guy. Jeremy Soule is the best video game music composer out there.
Age of Conan, Anarchy Online, and LoTRO has swtor beat in all of those categories imo. Swtor did have some pretty good music though.
