You will get EQNext. That is the next SWG.

I highly doubt they will try to obtain the Star Wars license again. They can make their money on their own IPs.

    You stay sassy!

    SOE = freemium

that mean SWG 2 = freemium, cash shop and plex like gold selling

That would make SWG 2 totally poinless and not worth looking for me.

If they made SWG2 it would be a dumbed down version with about 1/3 of the content of the original, probably with lots of voice acting or some other useless crap. You know in your heart its true.

Interesting bit of news I've come across only as a rumor BUT, got a friend who still occasionly plays TOR In their guild 2 of their members work on the Bioware staff, they have come out and basically said, and this is a rumor they heard if TOR doesn't meet the F2P expectations EA is expecting Lucasarts will be licensing SOE again to continue development on the now canceled Star Wars Galaxies 2, so in hearing that come directly from people inside BW there may be a chance to see a SWG2 on the horizon . I don't know if I should rejoice or be cautious.

Now that Dinsey has bought all of Lucasfilm Ltd., all the sub units of Lucasfilm plus all rights to Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises as of today.

It just may be possible that we could see an SWG2 mmo if people let Dinsey know that they want it to tie in with the Star Wars Episode 7 (release 2015, 8 & 9 (2 to 3 years apart).

So we need to wait and see what Dinsey does with it.

One thing I hope to see is Dinsey close down SWTOR and take the rights back from EA.

I do not agree.  The servers had a healthy population after the last server merges. It seemed that all of us "die hard" SWG fans were never going to give up on it. And, the devs in the last 3 years were amazing considering they were only a skeleton crew that remained.

They took the turd, that was NGE, and turned it into a really good Star Wars MMO.

If I knew that SWG2 was even a remote chance, I would delete all my SWTOR toons and never touch it again.

Disney are very much into bookface type stuff with their games. They only really have 1 console game - epic mickey, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Well ... I'm Currently Playing the PS2 Beta and that  Forgelight engine is amazing, Can't say much(NDA).. Surely that engine  could easily handle all the planets in the SWG miniverse in stunning detail with all thoses wookies running round too.  Am I still clinging to a wish that it wil happen or just sandbox mad. Just bored of the F2p trash popping up al the time.  ..Ok im done... ready for the abuse...

    :)

Yeah, with Disney at the helm i think we're more likely to see some quasi starwars/disney "kingdom hearts-esque" ultra themepark mmo.

The chances of you building a working time machine and going back to 2005 are higher than SWG ever coming back.....in any form.

They can't anyway from a legal standpoint,   EA/Bioware have the rights to the IP for another number of years for use as a client based MMO.

Much like SOE had exclusive rights until 2008 even though we had been hearing the rumours that Bioware were making SWTOR the couldnt officially state they where until post the licence expiring,   EA Bioware has a similar agreement thus why SWG HAD to close. I'm not 100% sure when exactly SWTOR holds the exclusive licence until but usually they are 5 years so I would expect 2016 before it could happen albeit development could start tomorrow and not affect anything from a legal standpoint.

No transfer of company can affect this legally binding contract so its the way things are for the forseeable.

In my humble opinion, sandboxes are against the Disney DNA.  They are an IP company with a focus on stories and characters.  Their mindset is "how does this sell toys?  How do we leverage this into other media and into merchandise?"  Their fundemental business model is to own and control the experience.  Anything is possible when there's a pot of gold to be had, but my initial gut instinct is that Disney's corporate mindset is the antithesis of sandbox gaming.

SWG was dying a long time before SWTOR released due to the way it was handled by SOE. It was like an old sick fleabitten mangy horse. The kindest thing to do was to shoot it.

There is no market for a game like SWG anymore(despite what you may see on this site, but MMORPG.com is like the last bastion for SWG fanboys) - that is what prompted the NGE, excluding the few hardcore fanboys that all descended on MMORPG.com, no one wanted to play the game how it was. The masses did not want to play Pre-CU and Pre-NGE SWG, thats why those "upgrades" were introduced in the first place.

Unfortunately SOE screwed up the implementation of those changes so incredibly badly that it is still considered the most epic fail in the history of MMOs to this day

The masses that did not want to play Pre-CU were the reason for the survival of the NGE and later brought us the re-made NGE, aka SWTOR. How well did that turn out?

Hey, Im not saying SWTOR was a good game. Far from it, but SWG was also bad, just in different ways.

SWG should have been put out of its misery right after the NGE release.

It was really bad at NGE launch, but later on it was a good game in my opinion.

I would definitely  take it over any current MMO. Besides, I hated the grind of Pre-NGE SWG. I hate grinding in any game. Where is the content in that?

Is it possible? Sure. And I might win the Powerball Lottery jackpot. That's possible, too. Is it likely? No, not really.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

Selective memory much?  Have you conveniently forgotten the masses leaving the game well before the combat upgrade, let alone the new game experience?  You rose tinted hind sighters are both amusing and annoying.
