I personally lost over 10k$ USD. If you take the time to browse their own forums, you will see MOST PEOPLE LOSE A LOT OF MONEY VERY VERY VERY FAST.
Some people have lost 100s of thousands of dollars... $100k's!!!!
It's gambling with enough excuses to not be labeled as such.
Trust me, do yourself and your friends/family a favour; do not download Entropia Universe.
ps:
Only completely brainwashed fanboys will tell you to play Entropia. I play Entropia myself around 30hours a week, but I am hopelessly addicted to it having lost so much money with that hope of one day getting it back... it won't happen and I hate myself... well I hate the person that I have become thanks to those fkn swedish scammers at Mindark.
Dont look at it as losing money, and simply as paying to learn a valuable lesson.....dont play games with RL money price tags attached.
Boy my arsehole puckers when I think about how much money has changed hands in this game. With my penchant for bad luck, and the fact I am not a barter proficient individual(or con artist if you prefer), I know damn well I would lose my wallet on this game. Thus I never tried it.
If things really are that bad for you Scam, in all seriousness I would suggest getting into a counseling program. Anyone losing that much, and going back for more, probably has some issues to work on.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
Seriously guys if you don't like it don't play it for f*ck's sake. Quit telling other people to hate it just because you do.
Nowhere are you forced or told to wager a cent. You make a personal choice. I am sorry if your personal choices end up hurting yourselves but man you made them. Others have that same choice to make, let them choose for themselves.
Just telling them the truth - realistically, most people get raped and spat out by MA.
Again, you can't argue this... just look at the official forums, 90% of the forum is complaints.
Entropia is a scam, a casino designed to suck you in and strip your bank account. The Swedes are rich enough without you handing over your credit cards! DONT FALL FOR IT!
How many other games do you ante up and then pray for a successful looting event...?
Oh yeah, ALL CASINO GAMES.
Entropia is a scam, a casino designed to suck you in and strip your bank account. The Swedes are rich enough without you handing over your credit cards! DONT FALL FOR IT!
REASON: No adult needs anyone telling them what to do inside a game and what missions to accomplish in order to have fun. The type of fun you personaly are interested in, whether it be talking to your friends about what Lindsay Lohan did yesterday or discussing newest finding in Quantum Loop Gravity and Strings Theory.
2. Skill at your own pace:
REASON: Choose whether you wanna spend your time playing the game and gaining skills naturaly, or work hard in real life and deposit some of that into the game to develop your character and own nice toys, just because you can and maybe learn something about how economies work.
3. Look toward other possibilities of what such open SandBox can offer.
REASON: The time of flat Internet is gone. Smart Games, crowd sourcing, simulation of markets cycle phenomenas, agent based modeling of complex systems and finaly education is gonna be moving into domains offering more sensory inputs and outputs. Multidimentional data of this magnitude can't be mapped efficiently onto the old school internet.
The choice is your's. You decide, whether you wanna join the Revolution and help create something big or keep scrolling your way through the old school internet into the abyss to the botton of the food chain.
It may have a random factor but have nothing to do with a casino or piramide system. You CAN control alote of factores that will end in a good thing for you if you know what you doing.
Just because you can profit does not mean it is not gambling! There are people that gamble professionally. Poker is a game that after 10,000+ hands in cash games some people are up every single time. Unless you know exactly what you will wager and win or lose every hand before the cards are dealt then it is gambling.
For people that haven't played this game let me give you an example of hunting in it. You might spend 3.04 PED (30.4 us cents) decaying your gun and ammo and healing yourself to kill a creature in it. It might contain loot that can be sold back to the game for its PED value of somehere between 0.00 and 100,000+ PED (thats $10,000+ USD of "random factor" thats not gambling somehow according to some lol) and maybe some of the items that make up that PED value can be sold to other players for more then this ammount, not that it has anything to do with whether or not you just gambled to get it. Maybe after every 10,000 PED you spend hunting you are up everytime because you are so great at the game and know everything and sell your items to other people etc. Its still gambling unless you know exactly how much you will get on each creature before you spend the money to kill and loot it.
As I said before I made thousands of USD in this game. But to make that I also lost thousands of dollars gambling with Mindark the company running it. All my losses and more were made up for by selling some items for more then there "PED value" to other players, doing things that are free that make PED (sweating, collecting fruit), and when I had enough of the game selling all my items and skills to other players.
I think people should be free to choose whether or not they want to play this game. For almost anyone that plays it though IT WILL INVOLVE GAMBLING. That is what makes the game fun.
I think Mindark has alot of good ideas. I like alot of things about the game and thats why I spent so much time in the game. Those thousands of dollars took even more thousands of hours to make im sure lol. I also think people should know what they are getting into before they start playing though.
The main reasons I quit playing were that
1. They refuse to admit that certain aspects of the game are gambling.
2. After annoucing they were going to be using the cryengine I experienced the worst luck I ever had in the game (as did almost everyone I know) and figured they cut the payout to get more money to pay for the upgrades.
3. I played along time (most of it fun) and just started getting bored.
4. At the time and probably still today they would release their financial information and it would show that they did not have the USD to back up the PED value of everything in the game. What this means is that they use some player funds to operate their business before the corresponding PEDs are lost doing whatever things that decay PED value and if there was a "run on the bank" the company would not only fold but player funds (unspent PEDs they say are worth 1USD per 10) would not all be paid out.
When the US DOJ went after several poker sites and started seizing assets Pokerstars is the only one that didn't nearly go bankrupt. It is also the only one based in the Isle of Man which has strict regulations for gaming sites which include forcing them to keep player funds segregated from company funds until they are lost to the casino or in poker the rate (fee the casino takes each hand).
As far as I know Mindark is not regulated at all because they "don't have any gambling". They don't tell you any payout rate or any information at all about the payout system because its "proprietary information we don't want our competitors to have" or some such statement (its not an exact quote). They do tell you that its not gambling though.
Some people might lose thousands of dollars but keep playing because they see messages that player x looted this worth 20000 PED and they think that a loot like that is waiting for them to make up for all the loss because they are told its not gambling and it couldn't cost 5 dollars a hour to play could it? No they are just saving up all those PEDs for me to give it back in one loot. Unfortunately for them they rarely get anything close to one of these loots and most that do have already lost several times more (although they might be smart players who sell things to others to make up for those losses before they even hit that big loot). Also even if there was a loss limit programmed in to pay you a big loot after x ammount lost it would still be gambling as you don't know the conditions for it to happen.
If after reading all this you still want to play then give it a try. Don't get me wrong it can be a very fun game. Most of the people are mature acting adults, although there are some that might try to scam you so watch out, and certainlly no other game is as exciting to get a good loot in I would recommend starting out with a small deposit (or even none) and making some freinds that have played the game awhile and are knowledgable. After that if you start playing alot just like casino gambling you will want to have a limit every week or month and stick to it. Otherwise you might be the next one on here who lost thousands.
If someone tells you to hunt this mob because it often drops item x which players pay a nice markup for I would listen to them and research it as they might be one of these knowledgable people. If someone tells you hunt this mob because I know a pattern in the loot and I know its gonna global* soon this person is most likely a gambling addict and there advice is definatly worthless.
If you decide to play then I wish you good luck
*A global is a loot over 50 PED which gets broadcast to everyone in the game to get their attention not unlike the flashing lights and sounds when you hit a jackpot at the casino. Infact there are also flashing lights and sounds in the game for you
If anyone wants to try this game make your character on Calypso planet just look me up in game. I am in the oldest guild in the game and would be more than glad to help you get started. Look it up SMC in the society terminal. We were in beta for over 2 years before the game went gold.
this is part of the learning curve knowing where stuff is and where to go for what the market is in demand of.
I play it off and on and have since it was in beta.
THIS IS NOT A FREE GEAR GIVEAWAY. This is gaining knowledge on what to do and where to go to do it. I can also provide transportation to get teleporters.
Sab Sabbath Mindfeast.
played M59,UO,lineage,EQ,Daoc,Entropia,SWG,Horizons,Lineage2.EQ2,Vangaurd,Irth online, DarkFall,Star Trek and many others that did not make the cut or i just plain forgetting about.
I have been playing this game for more then 7 years (88 months) and yes I have put real mony into it. A little calculation:
In the 7 years I played I put in about $ 4100 in. Today the items I have, have a value of about $1500. So the money I spend on the game is $ 2600. Devide by 88 months and thats about $ 30 a month. To me that is not a lot of money and everything I have put into the game I did because I wanted to. I have gone months without putting money in and I had months where I put in a bit more, but again that is my choice and my caracter still exsiste afetr I have gone months without playing or paying anything.
Starting on Calypso is something I'm not sure about these days, sure Calypso has the most people, but the beginners exoeriance on Arkadia is much better then on Calypso and Arkadia is growing VERY quick. Also there is a 'we want to build up this planet' vibe on Arkadia that I personaly like very much, it feels a bit like the old Project Entropia (as the game was called years ago).
Loosing 100K's of dollars on this game, well you can, but maybe the one that posted that has it confuse with putting in 100K's dollar in the game. The money you put in is not lost. The best example would be NEVERDIE who invested 100.000 dollar to buy a spacestation (2005) and after about 8 months he made back his investment and a few years later he sold the station again for 635.000 dollar (2010).
Sure if you are not smart enough or maybe have an addictive nature, then maybe this game is not for you, burcasue you can loose a lot of money. But if you are a bit smarter and set a budget for yourself this game can be very fun. The community is very mature and there is usually very little name calling of kiddies that are annoying people. I actually have some interesting conversation with people about economics and politics (sure and Beer and girls and partying). I also made a few very good friend, some of which I have eventually met IRL and some I hope to meet IRL very soon.
So not a game for everyone, but it is free to try, so what keeps you from doing that??
Since I have been in Ma has devalued everything in game. Started with L and all the mid level gear got devalued to nothing. Then they did their 2x and 3x skill events..skills tanked in value and STILL have not really recovered. Thenthey started with saturating the markets one at a time in looted resourses brining their MU value down to nothing. ANd now they are starting on high level gear since so many players can too easily skill now days with missions and the skill/ attrib gains by dropping a Limited mod merc.
They just got 6million dollars and cant set up a simple suport system for people who are stuck in space on a weekend due to a KNOWN bug tehy made last VU. I and a few others I know are floating in space unable to revive or do anything.
The worry should not be over money any longer it should be over whether you can trust them with puttiing money in not to bone you dry with 20 grit sandpaper.

most of ppl that talk bad of this game in the end they never understood how to play it!
Like on RL you need to be carefull how you spend your money! Just do the right things and your wallet will stay fine.
Dont look at it as losing money, and simply as paying to learn a valuable lesson.....dont play games with RL money price tags attached.

My whole issue after 5 years of play is trust.
