If you want "sharper" graphics turn off post process efects.

Seriously the game looks so much butter without those effects. it removed bloom and depth of field which make everything blurry. I post here a few screenshots. PP effects off and no shadows for performance. rest is on high/max.

Maybe it's not for everyone since some people like this "dreamy" look of GW2 but I prefer it sharper.

I think GW1 and many Asian MMOs use similar blurring effects to make things look softer and more detailed without putting real detail into them.  I don't like it and I always turn it off right away.  My eyes get tired if I'm trying to focus on blurry things for too long.

yea post processing looks horrible to me but others love it so it's really subjective. If you are not a fan of the bloom effect turn this off and enjoy a much less blurry and a sharper overall picture.

oh also FXAA + post processing is a lot of blur so if you want to run one id suggest not running the other unless you really like all that blur:P

The only thing I might miss from those effects are god rays but there weren't that many places where we could see them anyway.

Awesome tip! I always turn of AA in games because I don't like how it makes things look less sharp, but I would never have thought to turn off post processing. They should add a seperate toggle just for bloom though, imo, so we could have the rest of the effects.

    Great tip!

I tend to always turn off depth of field, I hate the way it looks.

One thing I absolutely can't stand is the glowy outline around targets. Not the base indicator, but the full body outline around a target or anyone you are looking towards.

I was very happy to discover than not only does turning off post processing really bring the game to life for me, but it also removed that horrible target outline!

    win/win!

Ever since LIneage 2 I've gotten into the habit of turning off whatever bloom or post processing options an MMO has. Post processing seems to just make things blurry/glowy, dropping my FPS in the process.

These are offcourse all personal prefferences, i like these things because it makes the world feel dreamy and alive to me...

    Just personal prefferences tough.

it depends on the algorythim used. you probably mostly have your hands in MLAA

Indeed I turn it off,  just got to figure out how to get rid of the on target glow as I hate that even more.

I've only spent an hour in char creation and 5 minutes in game so havent actually looked at options etc.

turning off post processing removes the target glow :)

Actually, pretty much any AA bothers me and I see no need for it in quality modern games. I only notice jaggies if I take the time to look for them.

I always turn it off too. This doesn't effect atmospheric effects and I'm pretty sure I've still seen Godrays with it turned off. I noticed that most, if not all, of the official video from Arenanet trailers has it turned off as well. Nice to have the option for those that want it, but to me, the game looks better with it turned off.

The biggest impact seems to be in screenshots and video. Post processing is a lot more noticeable to me in screens than in game and any pleasant qualities it may have in game seem to be lost in screen caps. So if you plan to take screen shots, it's probably better to turn it off if you don't want a soupy mess. :)

I also plan on playing with it off , It seems way to "dream like" with it on. The only zone that seemed to look better with it on was the Sylvari starting area. When you turn PP off in that zone everything looks ridicolous.

Overall Post Processing really seems to take away from the graphics and just make everything dull. For anyone who hasn't tried turning this option off, or even on low give it a try, I think you will be surprised how the game comes to life. The performance increase is nice as well.

I keep it on. I just love the "depth of field" effect.

Since you can turn it on or off at will, everybody is happy :)

yup yup.. just hate games where you can't turn bloom off drives my crazy.. wish they would split up the post processing effects onto their own on/off options though

I turn them off in every game I play, I find the blur uncomfortable for the eyes and an unnecessarily hard burden on my memory capability. Not only do I think games look better that way, they play soooooo much better, too. I generally turn off water reflections as well, you spend 90% of the time either inland or underwater, that rare occasion when you're looking out over it isn't worth the graphical effort IMO.

I always toggle it off, don't care for the look of post-processing (in any game).

reflections is by far one of the heaviest fps hogs.. from off to all I get 20 fps drop.. I keep it at terrain & sky only drops about 5 fps that way

NEVER put on subsampling unless you have to, it makes the game unbearbly blurry.
