I have just writen an open letter to Jack Thompson on my page. You are all welcome to read it.

Jack Thompson is a VERY anti-gamer. He particularly likes to protest violent games (rockstar games in particular), as well as defend teenagers who commited murder, saying games like GTA taught him how to kill them. Lately he's been pretty much insulting gamers, calling us lame, telling us to get a life, etc...

That is a good letter but if you want to really make a point you should try not to be so biased in your statements. (I know this sounds like a teacher grading you but dont think anything i say personally cuz your letter is good). Try to put some facts to support your ideas. Like how gaming actually does have a positive effect on many people. Hand eye coordination for one thing, you can make a search on google to find the information so you can site it, and expand on those ideas. If a letter/ essay is not so biased and have support for the reasons then the letter/ essay tends to turn out to be more powerful.
ps. dont take this like im putting you down in any way. This is just my response to the letter. Your letter is very well thought out and i agree with many of your ideas, so im not saying your letter is bad or anything, just consider it (or ignore it if you want) for the next time you write a letter to someone that you dont agree with.

The man isn't a threat to gaming. His vitriolic outburts undermine the legitimacy of those who would argue in favour of tighter censorship. And he has inadvertently given Rockstar a lot of free advertising. They ought to put him on their payroll.
I believe that some mentally defective people may be overly influenced by violent images in video games. Their behaviour may become irrational and aggressive. They may have difficulty distinguishing fiction from reality. I would put Jack Thompson in this category.

It's because people need to point their fingers at someone but themselves. People like Jack Thompson need to point blame something for his problems. It's because they can't handle that it's in themselves the problem lie. People end up getting so obsessed with it, they actually believe it and start wanting to something about it.
Ladies and gentlemen. Jack Thompson is a selv-delusionary psychopath. And it's harming us all.
Playing games doesn't learn us how to kill. That's a fact. I remember some psychological guy having a lecture of somekind with parents about violent video games. He said the video games trained them with guns, and he had an example af a school shootout with 8 kills, 5 of them were head shots. What he didn't tell was that the kid only played Mortal Kombat.
Playing GTA wouldn't teach you how a gun works, or how to use it effectively.
Anyways, we don't need to do a lot of research to see that he's wrong. Just compare games with sports. How many violent events happen at WCG and CPL? I haven't heard of any. What about soccer in England? In every major game there is problems. Should we ban Soccer? Hell no! I'd even bet Jack Thompson agrees.
Can anyone tell me his e-mail... I think I'll write him a mail...

okay, maybe i touched a little too deep on history for you guys to catch. What i meant was that Australia was founded because Europe took all of their criminals/outlaws etc. and shipped them to australia so they could be free and they wouldnt cause Europe any trouble. Suggesting we send them to a similar island, not saying anything bad about australia, the kangaroos, the wierd language OR the fact that they have christmas in summer (lol i still can't get over that)

America was the same, except for them being the violent criminals we were the religeous freaks. Turns out all that free thinking we were doing was a bad thing back then. Looks like we showed them who's boss! Now everyone wants to BE america and everyone wants to DO australia(ns).
My opinion on the letter: Not very good. No points or facts to hang on to. You really need this if you want it to be taken serious.
It just felt more like an remark from a "My dad is stronger then yours" type of fight. No offence m8.
Try getting some politics or something in the mix.
But still a fun read, and a good try.
Jacky Jacky Jacky...what could I possably say to you :P From a very young age, I played Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake. I was an impressionable young man at the time to, lol. Hmm...know what? I grew up and now i'm a pacifist. Isn't it impressive that games don't lead to violence?
It's like trying to blame 9-11 on Bomberman, lol, it just makes no sense, and is tasteless. Games do not destroy people's lives, in fact, they improve them as far as i'm concerned. Better to play games then to sit around idly watching TV. At least games are interactive and get your mind working.
Sure, some people will see a game and kill somebody. But then, some people could hear a bad poem and kill somebody. Some people might see a black sock and kill somebody. You know, I bet people who kill somebody will always have some scapegoat to try and get their way to freedom. But then, people who kill were unstable to begin with, and only needed a catalyst to set them off.
Jack, I don't know where you get the balls to tell me that I'm a threat to society because I play games, but you know what? You can take your theory and shove it down somebody elses throat. I'm 21. I'm American. And i'm a gamer. Gamers outnumber the non-gamers pal, so why don't you sit down, shut up, and live your life under your mother's roof, which is probobly the last place on earth your going to be welcome by the time you finish this crusade against phantoms that dont exist.
