Just made a blog entry with some screenshots of the amazing GFX in Tera. http://taleofmmos.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/beauty-of-tera.html
Too bad the game does not play as good as it looks...
Comments
Last comment is a bit off, since it's usually reserved for mmorpgs with bad animation, which is not the case here.
It's more like this. The game does not utilise in it's other aspects the visual prowess of the engine and the stunning visuals in an seamless environment with full collision detection.
Also the EU side of things is not as competent as its US counterpart.
Well if you want to use fancy words and all that... but yeah that is what I meant
The animations are top-notch but the game play is so linear and without surprises. Even the Vanarch system seems to be so uninteresting as I havent understood why you would bother with it. Some extra coins in a game where it is so easy to come by?
My gaming blog
The ingredients for a half-decent game are there, it was just never put togethor.
0-60 are, as was said, linear and dull grind. But endgame has glimmers of something good. Gvg could have been a great system, and there have been some great guild/alliance wars around, but there is just no incentive to do it. Big guilds could control nexus with gvg, but it was basically a lose-lose situation, no NT for me no NT for you. You can take vanarchy by gvg, but as was said, vanarchy seems pretty pointless, engame zones get you some money, but there is no real 'control'...You cant lock areas down like in Darkfall. OW pvp is dead, again because there is no point. You could hunt 10, 100, 1000 players, and get nothing...And of course, safezones within 2 feet of wherever you are, so increidably annoying.
I have gone back this week because of server merges (EU), hope this will make things more interesting. Quite a few others have headed back too (lots of rebirth gear around again). They are fixing the battleground rankings after they became 99% exploited although all these cheaters will still get their season rewards...). Hopefully we will get some other much needed fixes, and some new content within the next couple months.
Last chance really, if I leave again my sub is gone for good.
I think just, you know, for shiz and giggles, we could try to stick to the topic of the thread to make it interesting. Or create different threads with whatever the issue one wants to talk about.
I'm hopful that by now people in MMO forums have come to realize:
1) No 1 game is perfect. One game might have the things you like but fail in others while another succeeds in what this one fails in but flails in what this one excels in. The point is picking something you enjoy playing and playing what you enjoy.
2) MMO's are machines in constant evolution. If we take this game as an example we can see many changes have been implemented, many after customer feedback. For example, when Vanarchy first launched much interest was lost after the first round of elections. Rewards and lenght were changed and all of a sudden now there is normal, steady participation in Vanarchies. Guilds that are effective at collecting policy points and competing succesfully in future elections are actually making a fairly healthy amount of gold and attracting active applicants. Some of those guilds are putting many gold fodders in their guild banks and Alkahests which facilitate memeber gear support, even for alts. Personally I'd like to see more evolution in Vanarchy involvement but that's just an example. We're in month 6. I seriously would not be surprised if GvG rewards are not introduced within the next few months.
3) The graphics and art style of this game is always a treat. I'll ask the OP if they can add pictures of Heartwood - my own peronal favorite region.
4) When I first tried the game I tought "damn, with these graphics the game will perform like crap" but was surprised to find how smooth and solid the game runs and how intuitive the UI is. At this point I expect people to come in to complain about Nexus - an end game event once a day, twice on weekends where 500 people or more cluster in the middle of a cluster fuck of GFX and I'll say; d'uh of course. Where else?
I agree on what people say, Tera has nice graphics, a great combat system and then... fails at providing interessting content.
Here's my long version of that:
