Irth Online, Whats the big deal?

GarrikGarrik Member UncommonPosts: 965

So i finally got the chance to play Irth online and i have to admit i didnt know if i should be excited or not after reading so many bad reviews on here about it. But after quite a while of playing all i have to say is that i think people are being abit harsh on this game, fair enough it needs some work and i think Magic Hat Software should wait until atleast January to release it fully, but still i think some posts on it are slightly over the top, here is a list of some things about what people have said and what i think:

Graphics Problems - Well i thought the graphics where pretty damn nice actually. They are smooth and clear but you just have to adjust the odd setting to get it to run perfectly, big deal if the worst thing you have to do in a game is decrease the Draw distance then it isnt doing to bad. The water effects, the armour gleaming effect and the grass/flora also adds some nice touches to the game.

Clunky Animation - I think this is a terrible statement, i found that the movements where very good apart from the jumping and strafing which need some minor animation updates, the combat and genneral movement felt very comfy to work with.

Lagg - Personally i have experience no lag at all so far.

Terrible Controls - Yes the first basic setup for the controls are bad but if you spend literally 5 mins you can have your keys remapped to whatever you want, im currently playing it with WASD as the movment and think it works just as well as any other MMORPG.

Now im not saying that its the perfect and greatest mmorpg of all time, but i just wnated to get across that i think people are being abit over the top in rating this game, i mean look at its gamelist hype at 5.2 i think it deserves atleast 6.2 or somthing around that, because the game just isnt as bad as people have made out. Sure its a little difficult to pick up at first but once you start getting into it, its very enjoyable with its neat skill system which i think is a great feature. But like i said i still think the game needs more time, I think people will p2p it because it does have potential, i just wish the devs would hurry up and realise what they could have.

Im sure i have missed out other complaints that have been made but these where the main ones that came to mind, please feel free to comment on this, I dont want to start up flames im just expressing my opinion and i would really like to hear yours about what iv said and about the game, please try to be un-biased.

Thanks for reading

Garrik

Last patch quite much removed lag from almost all of people with computers from this century...

they've added alot in very short time and if you havent tested it for a month, i recomment you give it a try.

Will it offer enough bang for my buck 1st of Nov? ...maybe not, but I for sure will look back after few months...the game has potential and the team has what it takes to polish it all but they would need month or two more.

I think you hit the nail on the head with "What could've been"

I was a rabid follower of this game and if it is still around in six months I still might come back, since the ideas of the game are fantastic.
But recently some of the lead devs which I thought were incredibly honest, blatantly lied to the faces of all the die hard fans.
They told us time and time again their funding was in it for the long haul and there was no way that they would release a game unfinished. Well they are releasing the game unfinished, something I normally wouldn't mind but just the fact they told us over and over again. That was the true stab in the heart, if they were up front and told us, "Hey we are running out of money and we have to cut some features!" I wouldn't even have minded as much.

Maybe I am being immature, but when people slap me in the face and then turn around and feed me what they have been shoveling. I tend to be upset, and tend not to trust them for a while.

the alot spoken UI issues will be touched at in todays patch I hear...will not be so bare anymore after todays patch.

Dungeons will also be introduced before release.

they might just make it, dunno...the game is quite stable now after last patch so it wont atleast be ANARCHY ONLINE bad :P

Wow thanks for the posts guys, you both seem quite open minded about this game unlike some other posters comments iv read in the past. I think that Magic Hat Software have a good chance of just about making it for the deadline (november 1st) afterall its only the 21st now and alot can be done in a short space of time as we have been shown before. The main things that i see need sorting are the AI and Animation of monsters and characters also a tutorial wouldnt be a bad thing either as skills can be pretty confusing aswell as finding the correct npcs. I also agree with you saying its quite stable kishe, i have had no problems at all so far. I think people who tried this game a few months back should give it another go, it has changed alot and i do see its potential and people are trying to shoot it down before they have given the Devs a full chance. Lets see how they do, i have some faith in them still.

    Thanks

    Garrik

*crosses fingers* I hope so, but I will say I wont come back to the game for at least six months to a year.

Sure this game is far from perfect...and I honestly would give it a few months more in beta, but big part of the negativity is about people testing the game few months back and expecting finished game with frozen code...changes will happen all the way until release and more so after...they have people working 7 days a week so comparing them to mourning where devs didn't do anything at all is quite undeserved.

Yeh thats another thing that anoys me people comparing this to mourning. I hope more do come and give beta another chance, its an interesting game and i have to admit the skill system is pretty awesome.

Were you guys playing the same game I was?  I tried it, and it was even worse than RYL, it simply doesn't perform.  This guy is a definite don't buy.  Am I the only one who when they explored the graphics would give out of them and you would be merely moving a couple of feet see through objects such as buildings, the combat was lame to say the least.  The game offers nothing and is poorly designed.

I remember all the insane amount of negative attention that Mourning was getting last spring. So about April or so, I decided to actually buy the damn thing when it went down to $19.99 and test it out to give it a score. After expecting the absolute worst, I went in, tested it for like 3 hours, and came back and graded it at like a 72% or something real close. LOL. Tons of people thought I was crazy to give the game that high of a mark. I decided to rescore the game, giving it a much deeper test. After testing the game for like 70 hours of gametime, I came back and gave the game a much more honest and accurate score of a 36%. Once I got past the sheer surprise of actually seeing it even run and work, I saw that the game DID have too many bugs to mention, had far too little mobs and things to do, and I described my review in great detail of exactly "why" i scored the game at a 36%.

When I read the OPs initial post, I can't help but wonder if a simlar experience has happened with him here. He goes in and expected the absolute worst and complete trash, and then highly over-rates the game when he comes back and posts after only a couple of hours in the game.

I played Irth for about 45 minutes about 6 or 8 weeks ago. I immediately uninstalled the game thinking it was complete garbage back then. A couple of you insist the game has improved a LOT in a short time recently.

Fine. I will play the game for a minimum of 8 hours (or more if I can hack it) and come back with my own personal review of "Irth Online" in the next few days.

The only way to find out is to play the damn thing yourself though. ;)

I have played for more than "a few hours" hehe, but thats not the point. The game has changed alotover the last few weeks, i still dont feel like i would buy it just yet myself just becuase of the bugs that are still there and various other things in the game which are just not done well. My original post was just pointing out that the game is being to underated which isnt fair, i'm not saying its perfect because i can tell you it is far from it, all i am saying is it has changed and i do think its worth people atleast looking at a few of the improvments especially since they are currently working on content that the testers are not even allowed to know about so iv been told by various people. Lets just see what happens, i think its unfair to shoot it down before its had a fair chance, thats all.

Thanks for saying you will review it Zaxtor, im sure you will be very fair in your Review and i look forward to reading it.

I have been impressed with the recent updates. The devs have really been working hard and putting in vast improvements.

I will definitly be buying this game, as a crafter type player and a fan of skill based game I am finally having some fun

Anarchy Online has been around for how long? If Irth makes it a quarter of that time, it will be lucky...

    I think it will last

Irth isn't owned by a big company with outside backers. Its a game made by a gamers that I believe are paying for this themselves.

They are very dedicated and often stay up with a few hours sleep. They constently talk to us on the beta boards and in IRC.

Alot of us beta testers really enjoy this game.

I love it, I log on with tons of options to do. Skill based is the best. I feel the freedom and people actually stop and socialize because we don't have to level.

I used to log on WOW and have to say man another quest, what quest do I need to do now. But not anymore :)

Anarchy Online at launch were, by all means awful...i remember one of the slightest bugs were that if you sat to rest, you had to relog to stand.

the fact it even lasted this long is a proof that irth has a chance
