Merge EvE + Dust 514 + Walking in Stations = Success?

FromHellFromHell Member Posts: 1,311

I just wondered, how about making EvE and Dust 514 one game, running on PC, with Dust 514 also on PS3.

Plus, finally developing the Walking in Station concept further.

I think that would be pretty cool. Right?

    -That is the idea.

    They "are" one game.

EDIT: At risk of braking the NDA I can pretty much only say the idea is that we are the "ground forces" (DUST players) who will take and hold territory for the Eve players who will support us via "air support". Its all tied together, even the corporations will be the same... BUT Corporations will be able to hire "mercenaries" (freelancers) and such who are not part of their corp.

-Plus add in the spies and all the Political intrigue you have with Eve.

Its all happening (or wil be) in one game worldm complete with territory control and many other unique features.

    Not really, I meant:

    - EvE client on PC: Containing EvE and Dust 514 (currently only on PS3, right?) in one client. Go to space or to a planet for shooter style action.

    - Dust 514 (without EvE) only on PS3

Or are these the longterm plans anyway? Because I think that would really rock.  I don´t own a PS3 and I´d like to play Dust on PC within the EvE client. You know like Dust being a warzone you can queue up and fight on the ground when taking a break from the space part.

No. I am only aware of a PS3 client for Dust (PS4 as well if I am not mistaken)

ok, but am I the only one who would think this would be cool to combine in one client on PC?

what do the hardcore EvE players think about that?

(I´ve only been starting two months ago)

Also.. what is the community stance on the Walking in Stations topic?

COmbine both into one epic mmo. Yes its a good idea and should have been done that way. Its the one thing keeping me from playing EVE< i dont like being a ship and flying all the time.

Dust uses a completely different game engine to WiS. You can't just "merge" them.

But CCP have repeatedly nudge wink refused to rule out an eventual PC release for Dust. Launching as a PS3 exclusive means that it has to exclusively available on the PS3 for a year. It's worth remembering that Dust is a launching as a PS3 exclusive because Sony paid for it. Without that Sony cash, there probably wouldn't even be a Dust to hope for a PC version of.

I think the odds of a late 2013/early 2014 PC version of Dust are quite good. I'd certainly play it.

I have played EvE  since beta, and no, I would not like DUST to be an integrated part of the EvE client. The EVE client is the pod pilots interface. DUST is the mercs interface. It is not that I mind avatar gameplay in eve. I quite like the pod pilot exploration avatar gameplay idea that CCP have been throwing around. That would (kinda) make sense. I would not mind if CCP took DUST to the PC either, just in another client.

    My 5 cent...

I believe this is how it will go too.

Dust is being released exclusively on the PS3.  CCP hasn't ruled out a later port to the PC, even when pressed on the topic, they won't commit with either a yea or nay on the subject.

IMO - DUST will end up as a dual environment (PC and PS3) with the 2 games interconnecting but not as an EVE pilot, climbing out of his ship to go grab a gun and head to the planet nor a DUST combatant flying off to a dreadnought to then go blast some POS.

If it does go that far, that's years in the future but connectivity?

Interactions "face-to-face" between EVE and DUST players?  Yes, I think it'll happen (peacably - as in visits to stations by DUST players with "no guns" rules and such) and I think we'll se a PC port sometime probably within 2 years of its release.

It wouldn't be hard to have renderings of players from each environment handled in the other.

I'd bet on that's what they plan for the future, but these projects are pretty ambitious, if the cash flow weakens all of that could fall apart.

Makes CCP my favorite developer though.

    we want...

    1) option to turn it off.

    2) not to spend actual gameplay resources on developing it.

other than that nobody hates it jsut for hating it. we simply turn it off. if its there or not doesnt impact us negatively.

    My thoughts exactly.
