I run my game audio through a surround sound system. I run my chat audio (skype / vent) through a headset. For the past several years I've used two separate computers to accomplish this.
If I install a sound card would it be possible to do this with just one computer? As in running game audio to the surround sound from the sound card and chat audio to the headset from the motherboards onboard audio?
The setup may be kind of strange but I prefer to keep the audio on separate channels for various reasons.

I don't think you can with a sound card but an easier fix is to get a USB dongle like this:

That's what I use. Set VOIP to go through USB and sound to go through speakers.
