  Anyone not clever enough to find a lineage 2 free server doesent deserve one. This is illegal and its not welcome here.

  Private servers

  Since the second half of 2004, a significant amount of privately owned and run communities have started to provide their own Lineage 2 servers. This practice of starting private servers started when the official Lineage 2 server leaked out to the general public. After the leak, several people had implemented changes to the existing client that would allow a person to run a modified game client and then connect to non-official servers. This practice was illegal, though, as NCsoft explicitly disallowed any client modifications which were required to play on non-official servers. The leaked server was obviously not supported by NCsoft. Updates and Chronicles 2 and 3 were never made officially available to the private servers running the leaked server program.

  During the first half of 2005, however, an open source project called L2J had developed to replace the aging leaked server and to provide a server that can be updated and modified. Since the second quarter of 2005, the L2J project has gained significant momentum as more private servers switched from the leaked server to L2J. The issues about legality have been solved, as the client does not require any modifications anymore.

  Private servers are run privately and commonly without a subscription requirement. Because of this lack of income, private servers usually rely upon community donations and remain smaller to keep the costs down. As a result, private server communities are significantly smaller than the official Lineage 2 communities. Futhermore, private servers tend to deviate from the official servers by altering several major gameplay variables, usually aimed to increase the rate at which players progress within the game. The differences range from higher amounts of experience points to altering in game stores to sell items that aren't for sale on the official servers. While the basics of the game remain the same (a MMORPG in a high medieval fantasy setting), the focus of the game can change significantly.

  sweet, just what i want. a game where there is nothing to do but grind and farm for drops, with the grind and worhwhile drops taken out!
  top it off, i alwasy want gm's spawning unlimited cash and uber gear for their alts and buddies. yeah, lets go be private server gm guild fodder!

  wikipedia.org is contributed by people writing submissions. Those articles are entirely subjective

  Also, the free servers are Illegal. An Executive Developer for NCSoft had already informed me they were. Also thanks for the link. Ill be sure to send it to them
