In search of a game!

Hello

You see, I'm a poor student, and I have a bad computer... Windows 98, pentium 2.

And with this kind of computer, finding a decent game is hard. I'm blocked by the requirements. My computer has problems handling graphics. For the last 3 years, I've been playing Runescape, a nice game. If you know runescape, you know what kind of graphics it has. Well, that's about in the best graphics I can handle.

I was wondering if some of you know any nice game that my computer could handle. It can be a rpg, a text based one, a mmorpg, anything that's multiplayer. All help appreciated.

Are you willing to pay 10 to 15 dollars for a monthly fee? If you don't/can't, then you don't deserve a decent MMO.

And I know Runescape... for it's crappy quality and crappy communtity

unfortunately you will need to pay on average £9 a month for a subscription game.  not sure what to recommend for your spec, but you could just turn the game down alot!  I am currently playing WoW and watching dark and light as well as lord of the rings.  not sure of any others yet, but i am still waiting to see what happens with the WoW expansion.  kinda think i will be moving to another game though.  If i was you i would limit myself to older online games or resign yourself to lowering the specs to nothing :(

"don't deserve"? What a lame remark, I'm studying in law at university, do you even know how much that costs?  If you can afford wasting money on games, I can't.

One plays the games one can. I don't want the game of the century, just a nice one to jump on every so often. I'm not hard to please, proof is, you consider crappy a game I consider good.

anyway to the op, you can try this:

    www.tibia.com (f2p and p2p for premium)

    hmm..maybe Graal

(i think the website is www.graal.com) (i think its both f2p and premium for p2p)

i'm not sure if you can handle Fairyland, but give it a try

    www.fairyland.com.my (p2p)

    edit:

    i forgot one:

    www.uo.com (also p2p)

I have basically the same problem, but my comp is a little better (P3 windows XP) I have not yet found any games that are free and similar to runescape (That you dont have to download, b/c downloading kills my internet). You can never go wrong with a nice text based game because all you have to do is play for like 30 minutes(if that) a day and you'll be fine.

If you like runescape, This game (arenascape.net) is a crappier php version of it.

A pretty good mobster game (TheMobster.com)

A suped of version of the above game (TheMafiaboss.com)<<<recommend over themobster.com

    Funny medieval game (kingdomofloathing.com)

adventure quest (www.battleon.com) not really text based, but its a flash MMO so you wont need to download anything and it can run on every comp ever. (But you need the flash plugin)

Ogreisland (dont know exact URL, try looking up on google.com) Like adventure quest, but with worse graphics. A litle more indept i think. I couldn't get into it b/c it was a little confusing

Anothe medieval game(www.londinivm.com) Its kind of weird

RaceWarkingdom (Google it, dont kno exact URL) its a text based game that you have to download. Not a long download however.

You may want to try some MUDs I just skimmed through the whole post dealy, so i dont kno if someone said it already. I dont kno any ofhand though so try googling it (Google ftw)

BTW i am assuming you have dialup if you have broadband, downloading things wont be a prob.

You may also want to consider upgrading your comp. Atleast try to get a P3 and a new motherboard(if you need one) if you really want to start ridding yourself of your comps limits. However, if you just want a casual game to play here and there, just try some of these games or some of the others other people posted about

Oh yea i almost forgot. Star Craft is good online (its an RTS by Blizzard thats only about 5 dollars at stores now)
Warcraft is good(Warcraft 2 the third might be a little too much for your comp another RTS by blizzard)
Diablo 2 (an ariel view RPG that you can play online by Blizzard (Blizzard FT))

    Am I ever wrong??

You should probably just stick with RS. That's about as good as it gets with that computer...

Actually, I think Kingdom of Loathing might be a fun alternative to RS. Light-hearted humor, and a lot of it too.

If ya looking for a low spec 2d mmorpg, you could try: kingdomofdrakkar, endlessonline or tibia. They aren't all that bad but i would recommend endlessonline out of those.

Didnt the non-updated version of anarchy online or ultima online become free to play.  you might wanna try that because the originals were made about the same time as your computer.

    Dont deserve?

Well now isnt that just elitist of you.Are there any other rules the rest of us dont know about when it comes to "deserving" a mmo to play?

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

Such an uproar, eh? Wasn't meant to be demeaning, I'm just saying you usually are going to get a good (graphical) MMO without that much of a monthly fee. I'm speaking of personal exprience. I didn't get a MMO with a monthly fee for until about the 4th year of my first playing a MMO. ::::28::

I was a Runescaper for about 1 1/2 years, by the way.

On a slow computer UO is clearly an alternative. Its an outstanding mmorpg. Its problem are the graphics (extremely out of date axonometric graphics), but fast enought on any computer image

I have a dual xeon with an nvidia FX7800 ultra, so I can play almost any game, and  I have been testing lots of them looking for an alternative. The result has been I I have found lots awesome graphics but not a single game as good as UO in terms of RPG.

Yea he and about everyother person on this forum is right. try UO. i have never tried it personally, but i hear great things. (BTW its Ultima Online if you didnt know. i hope thats wat UO is anyways::::03::)

Also try some text based MMO's because they are very under appreciated and maybe MUDS (im not a fan of MUDs tho but some people might like them)

Well Happy hunting and good luck finding the game you wanted
