after 70+ hours of straight game play with about 2 to 3 hours of rest you can experience the following SERIOUS symptoms:

    1. Seizures (your brain becomes less tolerant of the acitvity on your monitor. If you have never experienced a Seizure before, bring a camera and a journal, because it's going to happen any hour now (if you're lucky)

    2. Loss of consciousness. This is due to sleep depravation, dehydration, and the lack of blood flow from the loss of physical exhertion.

    3. Bloated or "puffy" feet. A warning that you need to get up from that chair and walk around. This can lead to heart failure.

    4. Heart failure. A result from dehydration, lack of rest, and a lack of blood flow.

If I were you, Id turn that computer off for a day and walk around abit.

That's why you need like to stop and take a break every few hours at the minimum. And watching TV isn't a break either.

LOL, atleast get like a porn magazine or something and masturbate every few hours to keep your blood moving! lol, j/k heh.

I am married now with 2 kids, and no longer have the time to even play 10 hours a week...

I do remember the days however where I'd play UO back in 97-99 and AC in 2000 thru 2003 and some weekends I'd play those games hard, sometimes hitting 16 or 18 hours a day for several days in a row. I would sleep however, and stop to go out and eat, or whatever.

Thinking back, it's really not healthy to put that much time into a game. Your health, cleanliness, diet, and pretty much everything suffers... as well as friendships and family.

I really think that when we find ourself playing a game for say more then 8 hrs straight, we should all really think outloud to ourselves"Am I actually having fun, or am I playing to try and hit some goal of uberness?". Chances are by the time you've been absorbed in a game for over 8 hours straight, the actual fun level has went way down since you logged on, and now it is just the addiction of trying to make one more level or make one more skill point, or whatever that drives us keep playing and playing and playing.

I haven't ever played for so long straight, but I have been in your shoes with all the weird feelings and exhaustion however. Get some sleep, seriously! And do something outside tommorrow for atleast a few hours, it will do your deprived body some good, trust me.

Bah! Imagine the Slim Jim Fairy Snapmother hovering over your shoulder. Now what would he say if you stopped playing because of something like fatigue? He'd belt out an obscenity, whack you with a Slim Jim, and tell you to get back to playing.

I remember once I had stayed awake for a couple days then I was in my living room and saw what looked like silly string being sprayed all over the place and passed out on the couch. Of course this was before the mmorpg craze that is today I had been out with friends every night before and when I passed out I was at home just me and parents so it was imaginary silly string. Loss of sleep or lack of, over a period of time can lead to strange things I think its very unhealthy for the mind, a good example is the movie Fight Club. However if get Korean sickness and die at the computer thats a little different then what happened to the guy in that movie.

to answer your question: at 72 hours nothing at all happens, however, at 73 hours you die . . . instantly and without fail . . . trust me.

Make of it what you will.

I imagine you're sleeping right now but you'll eventually wake up and come back. When it comes to advancing your character every minute counts. Things like going to the bathroom to potty can take the place of leveling up and thats bad. So do what I do. Instead of going to the bathroom sit on a bucket with the open side up and catheterize your bladder. That can save you valuable time.

Remember! While you are away from the computer and not leveling ... the other guy is leveling. So get back to that grinding trooper! And Snap into a Slim Jim!

Longest I ever stayed up was 48 hours. Had to work back to back 16 hour shifts that were 6 hours apart.  Then I had to stay up for New Year's Eve with someone I was dating. I knew if I went to sleep I wouldn't wake up to be in. Nowadays I'm just too old. I get real cranky past 20 hours. I haven't stayed up all night in about 4 years. I say if your young and in fair shape its not a big deal, imo. You get in trouble when you have these severely out of shape people who've been playing 16-20 hours a day for months pushing their bodies to the extreme.

How do you manage to stay up 72 hours? I find that for myself its a physical impossibility. I think the longest I ever stayed up was something like 50 hours, though I can't quite remember why I didn't go to bed. I ended up falling asleep at Pizza Hut, slumped over my food. Kind of embarassing, really...

I think he means if you just sit in front of your computer the whole time. You were walking around, going to school, etc. So you at least had some physical activity other than using your fingers for wasd movement and your hand for mouse use. ::::28::

When ever I do any type of stint like that.. I ALWAYS try to go for a job every 12-24 hours.
As well, I usually use coffee and jumping jacks to keep myself awake.

The feeling of over 24-48 hours+ of no sleep is a strange one.. every time its been worth it tho lol.
and when you fall into that bed.. my god, you just go.. its great.
then when you wake up at 7pm the next day... then its just funny.

Edit: And Dekron, it seems that wasd might help.
all the deaths are playing mmorpgs, and koreans really prefer point and click over wasd (see lineage or the PnC option in WoW that nobody in North America uses).
so perhaps, thats why Americans/Canadians/Europeans dont die as much from computer use, we keep ourselves active with WASD...

I've stayed up for a total of.... 9 hours at the most, when I went on a WoW jam. Whne I was done I was very disorientated and dizzy, so ive never attempted it again. Id rather not push my body to the limits of how far its energy takes me before it runs down.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

I have been awake for 2 1/2 days at a lan party. But I gave up after that. Evey movie or game I played that didn't have max action on the screen, made me fall asleep. I was watching I-robot and I kept getting these blackouts where I suddently wakeup and don't remeber anything.

there was a time I stayed awake for so long that at a certain point I became wide awake and really hyperactive.. I couldn't stop talking and moving around and couldn't sleep for another 8 or so hours.

it was a strange experience, it's like I had heightened senses or something, the sounds were so loud and my vision was so focused..
