Lucas Arts knew SWTOR would bomb

and EA had little faith in it as well.

"When I was in EA we were deeply concerned about how boring SWTOR’s gameplay was. And that was back in 2010. They finally realized the truth and decided to delay the game for another year to try to fix it. The final build was more fun by several orders of magnitude than the previous, but it was still not enough. It felt like another WoW. They failed to innovate in any sensible way. They bet everything on the franchise, the VO and Bioware’s signature narrative (which if you have played Mass Effect 3, you’ll know it’s not what it used to be anymore). Lucasarts realized the game was going to fail and forced a new deal in 2011 that would remove them from the production credits. George Lucas may be a bad moviemaker, but who can doubt he is a terrific businessman."

since some people still to this day claim EAlouse was discredited somehow, here's a revealing quote from a guy who worked there up until a few months ago.

This is the latest SWTOR video posted on their web. How come that Lucasart is stil showing as credits?

That is not the credits. Credits are the srcolling text you walk out on at the end of a movie! Have a look at the credits in the game - I think it has it, SWG did anyway in the esc options, SWTOR should too

Because without the credits, no one would ever guess that the company that owns the Star Wars IP would have anything to do with a Star Wars game?  About the only way that Lucas Arts wouldn't be linked to this is if they sued EA for trademark infringement long before the game launched--which, of course, they couldn't, since EA had properly licensed the IP.

Btw you should mention that title of the article is

"Why Guild Wars 2 Triumphed Where Others Failed"

Edit. If the author was wrong about credits, his creditability went down the sink imo.

Actually it says it removes them from the Production credits, not the credits all together, so there could be some credits that were removed.

The first screenshot does show some Production credits, but there could have been more credits, like "Internal Production"?

Without knowing exactly what credits were supposed to be removed, does not lose the OP any credibility.

Ah but Madame, that is as illogical as to assume your statements are not credible, because you have a SWTOR signature. Why should someone make it so blatant and simple? No. If someone was to lie, I'd assume he would be elaborate as to say something so easy to check.

It is exactly this sort of what seems to be a small error which makes me believe the poster IS from EA and DOES report the truth. And it would be no means a surprise given how SWTOR fared, nes pa? And by all means we know nothing that EA meddled a lot in SWTOR, not Lucas. No, by all we know Bioware had the MAXIMUM of freedom, so there is only one culprit to blame and that is NOT EA but Bioware and Bioware alone. The entire SWTOR has all the good and bad sides all their previous RPGs since KOTOR had. Great character stories but horrible dull world design, and all the rest of the good, the bad and the ugly other Bioware single player RPGs had. SWTOR is the clear child of Bioware and not some evil influence of EA.

Ok I showed a proof that there are LucasArt credits in game. How that is not credible. So just that I like SWTOR I am less credible than SWTOR hater who would do everything to bash the game?

What you got there is nothing more than the muppets you see on these forums who come running along screaming "I told you so!!" and states they said this before the game would launch.

I bet you I can make a hundred whiny posts and in a year or so, come back and show you that some of them were right. But I wont, since I have a life...

What's his agenda anyway? Hoping another company will read his statement and think that "Damn, we need to hire that guy, he has insight!"...

No point, whatever was removed will not be there.

The quote says that the deal would remove them from the Production credits. What Production credits? Your screenshot shows External Production credits, there could various different Production credits, but if the article is right then the Production credits that were removed will not be there!

What was the Production credits that were removed? Internal Production? Some other kind of Production?

If you know exactly what kind of Production credits were removed as fact, and then can screenshot it, then you have a case, otherwise you do not.

The credits go for a long time, it's not a one page stuff. I made a screenshot at beginning, somewhere after few minutes and another later on. And sure there is no way to prove what was removed but also there is no proof that it was removed. LucasArt is still there - and that's what counts.

We all want good games.   For many people SWTOR is a great game, and you all try everything you can to silence their voices.

Unfortunately not enough people found it good enough.

Even Vanguard or some zzz MMO will have its following.

Its just that SWTOR is specific because it set some negative records that will be very hard for other MMOs to break :)

The bigger they are...as the saying goes ha ha

Again, it does not say that Lucasrts were removed, it says that they were removed from the Production credits, so Lucasarts being there does not count, as only a section of Lucasarts was removed.

If the quote had said "Lucasarts realized the game was going to fail and forced a new deal in 2011 that would remove them from the credits" then you would have a point

Not even EA or Bioware thinks SWTOR is a "great game". Thats why it wentF2P and so many people were layed off or forced to retire.

But yes your right, we all want good games. Its just unfortunate we haven't gotten a quality game since before 2004. BUT, glad you like SWTOR, keep having fun...at least some of us should.

"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then we’ve got another one that is actually going to be – so we’re going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what we’re targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you can’t hold me to it. But what we’re targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo

More. Most of these people are subbed  LOL.

Game is very alive. it is still the second most played  P2P MMO. Yeah I know you will say that EVE has more subs, but from what I know EVE subs are not a good indicator and EVE players have to have multiple subs to have many characters and they can be purchased for in-game currency.

Uhm, SWTOR alewady reached phase 1 of failure because it didnt keep enough subs to keep it afloat.

    Phase 2 underway.

I dont really reckon how you find it so offensive, its not like everyone cant see for themselvs that its a WoW clone with tendency to zero for innovation and that it had to go F2P in under a year.

Oh believe me, it was never my desire to have anyone's voice silenced. But given how similar MMOs are in the last years, I guess you have the upper hand in how MMOs are, no? So I think we who want different MMOs must make ourselves heard simply more. ;)

You are right, BW was good at telling stories, failed at creating engaging worlds. I mean I spent $150 on CE and played through 2 beta builds and through it all me and a few others pleaded and hoped they would fix stuff or the game would fail, or just go f2p. The world they built was just plain boring; nothing was going on in it. Even the heroic (world bosses) mobs just stood there waiting for someone to come along and kill them or die trying…no story behind that, other than it was just there.

I wanted SWTOR to be the biggest and best game ever so bad. I told my family and friends this is the game to watch....watch what? fail?  BioWare didn't listen to anyone and they really thought they were mighty and powerful, even more so with EA behind them.

The game was boring, me and a lot of other folks I knew all felt the same way. The NPC were static (I felt like I was walking through a diorama at times) The stories were ok, but some were really annoying...and I felt like I had to compete with my fellow players for resources (mats) and quest clickables...Made this experience even more terrible since it took 3 times the time to finish a quest....I found myself most times running to a quest item and if I saw someone else I would use force run and I felt like it was a marathon to get it first, the person who didn’t had to wait 5min, or at times infinitely as they went buggy.

This is where GW2 comes in. A game that does not punish you for NOT getting to something first. A game where you find yourself NOT hating your fellow player because they out damage you while killing a mob pushing you out of the loot roll.. A game where I can go back and play lower level content and still have a challenge instead of being able to just run through unskaved. A game where something is going on that engages the player in the open world. The stories may not all be as deep, but some are equal or better than anything TOR had to offer.. It's just a more rewarding experience for me all around, something SWTOR should have been but never was sadly.
