Returning Player - FTP

I subscribed to the game for about 4 months or so before I left.  I just downloaded the client to check out what FTP had to offer. When I left, I had 7 toons.  If I want to start a new toon from scratch, do I need to delete 6 of those toons because there is a 2 character cap?  Kind of a bummer.  If I decided to resub, then I would have lost all my other work

Yes you need to resub, you will have many more restrictions besides not creating new characters.

Everything I've read says they haven't fixed any of the core issues with the game that caused players to leave in the first place.

I really have to wonder what EA is hoping to accomplish with the changes they've made to the game. It seems like they are taking the alienation they made and doubling down on it.

The cynical side of me says they've already got all yall's money so screw you and your guild, but maybe they can scrounge a few bucks here and there from other potential players.

Have they locked returning players to just two characters yet?  I know it won't let you create more characters if you don't have a subscription, but I heard that you could still access all the ones that you created in the past.

They just announced that preferred players will have 6 characters. It is not in game yet, and I do not have information when it will be available.

Many improvements were made in game, check for yourself and don't rely on information from people who don't play game. It's F2P so it's not going to cost you anything to check it out and make up your mind.

    Have fun.

Are "preferred" players people who originally paid for box/sub fees and then canceled, or are they only current subscribers? Thanks.

Yes, your status will be automatically preferred.

    Form SWTOR website

Preferred Status is a great way to acquire additional features and unlocks. Upgrade to Preferred Status by purchasing the game, a Cartel Coin Card, or anything from the online store, plus former Subscribers are automatically granted Preferred Status.

Preferred players deserve more character slots and no hotbar restrictions.

prefered get 6 toon slots and 4 quickbars not sure of when the 6 slots are open but im guessing when they release 1.6 soon. Free to play never paid for anything get 4 toon slots and 2 quickbars but a purchase in the market makes you prefered i think but might be wrong.

Correct. Any purchase in store change the status.

If true, that's pathetic.  How much effort would it take to unlock said content for preferred-status players?

i think you spend 5 bucks and you get the extra quick bars (2 more) and the 6 character slots and higher credit limit. In terms of gameplay free or premium do not get unlimited gear like subs flashpoints or warzones , there is a limit on them to how many you can do per a week unless you sub. The only thing i do not like about the new swtor free to play is comparing it to lotr online where you can sub for a month and make 5 toons and unlock everything on those toons permanantly. I wish swtor had something like that , but they need to make money so i can understand why they do not want people subbing for a month then ditching a sub fee.

Edit - read the question wrong sorry , i think that content is free to your premium limit of 5 warzones for a week or something for ancient hypergate. I cant remember the price per month for unlimited pvp warfronts i think it was stated here it would be 10 bucks a month or something.

As a former sub, I am a "preferred" F2P player.....but I had the unfortunate experience of being unable to create a new character to experience a different story because I had too many alts on my former subscription (I think I had like 6 lvl 50 characters).

So, no worries, I'll just go to a different server and start over since I just wanted to play the story.....nope, can't do that.  You have to actually delete your former characters to make a new one.  It was the most absurd thing I've ever seen.  Plus, you can't play all your alts; you have to choose which 2 characters you want to play, but of course at lvl 50 with the restrictions on PvP and PvE, there isn't any point.

So, I then decided to make a new account so I could actually create a character.  Again, you're limited to just 2 characters and 2 quickbars (better make them count!).  What really grinds my gears is that you only get 5 rez driods.  WTF?  If you die, you basically will have to run back from the beginning, which means there is a 99% chance that all the mobs have respawned again.  Very annoying.  Then of course they have the 25% XP reduction, which means you have to do every single quest on each planet to really move on to the next planet at the appropriate level.   I didn't really want to do all the side quests, I really just wanted to experience the other class stories....but so much for that.

Finally, given all the problems, I realized that I might as well just go to Youtube and watch the videos of the class stories and save myself the headaches imposed on F2P players.

Look, if they fixed world PvP (especially Ilum) and un-nerfed my dps sorc, I'd probably sub again.  But the F2P option is really a pain in the butt.

I'm actually thinking of returning to the game as well. I am apparently one of the rare fans that thoroughly enjoyed the game. Even grinded money so I could make a miraluka sith juggernaut and enjoy the story all over again, but I left for reasons stated above which was mainly "It's coming" and yet I didn't really see anything. Also most of my guild stopped logging in which meant no raids and more group pvp which got dull for me. Anyway I just wanted to ask anyone who is playing right now how it is and if the population seems stable? Do they seem like they're trying to get the ball rolling a bit more now?

We are able to field two 8 man teams consistantly again. A large portion of my guild tried out GW2. The majority have returned. The server consolidation was what really helped player population. Free to play has overloaded a couple of servers (queues) at least temporarily. Lag has also become more of an issue.
