Putting the hardcore into WoW

CryomatrixCryomatrix Member EpicPosts: 3,223

I was thinking since people say WoW is way too easy, why don't we play the game hardcore style. Sort of just like diablo, if you die then your char is gone forever.

So I was thinking of going to an RP server and starting a group of players that will attempt to go through the whole game without dying.

Since it's almost impossible, I guess the rules I'll make are that we can be rezzed, however, if the group (however many people) get wiped, then we delete our characteres. We would also have to move in a group at all times and I presume every class would have to be able to resurrect or atleast have jumper cables.

I play a lvl 59 horde hunter on lightning's blade (Cromagnum is the name), so I wanted something different and something challenging. So if anyone wants to join just let me know, it won't be very intensive just a few hours here and there. I plan to be a human paladin.

Let me know if you're interested.

not a bad idea for a change of gameplaying.  would have to find a good group that know their classes & the classes that cannot rez would almost have to go engineering for the cables.  def need warlocks for soulstones.  teamwork would be paramount especially in the more difficult high level instances like scholo, strat, and BRS where sometimes a 10 man team is hard pressed to survive.  i'm a casual player so unfortunately you can count me out but i wish you luck with this.

The goal was to get to lvl 60, not necessarily get epicced out, but it woudl be nice to say, "I'm lvl 60 and I haven't died once." I already made my character on the RP server, he's lvl 1, I plan to only play with double xp as well.

With my horde character I plan to play the AH game and play it like the stock market to increase my gold. I have more fun doing that than playing the game.

I was thinking if we had a group of three, the classes would be.

Paladin (me), and Druid, and Priest or Warlock. If we had five, we could have Paladin, Druid, Warlock, Mage, and Rogue. Also, since we'd be grouping all the time, and I hope be mature, our tactics won't be pathetic like 99% of the lvl 60's. I swear they can have like 8 lvl 60's and they still don't know how to team up properly. However, the class choice is up in the air, I've only played a hunter and 95% solo, so I'm not sure the dynamics of a Paladin and the dynamics of many other classes. Either way, we'd have to work in a group at all times to ensure we do not die. A group of 5 is ideal so we can do the instances and not worry about having someone who sucks or causes wipe with his pet (like I do sometimes).

That's my usual retort to the 'WoW is for carebears' crowd. There's nothing keeping you from removing your in the least suspending your character when it dies. Of course, somehow looting items seems to trump character loss for 'excitement in PvP'.

Hmm i think this is a good idea...it should be implemented on the expansion. A hardcore mode where your char gets deleted if he/she were to die...but resurrectable...so unless healer gets wiped in the group or you die in nongroup, then your char gets deleted...

On an RP server, it's doable..... on an RPPVP server, now THAT'S hardcore!

You can't do it on a PvP server, you'd need to walk around with lvl 60's as an escort. An RP server is the best place in my opinion. We could be in a group of 5 and one lvl 60 comes and it's game over unless we were lvl 40+ and still we may be get nailed.

I'm kind of disappointed of the lack of respones, I would have thought since everybody and their mother say this game is easy they'd want to try something challenging and unconventional. I think I could do it solo but I'd have to take baby steps and I'd have to be a rogue or a hunter in order to get out of danger.

I may try it on my own though, I mean why not, I'd just have to skip the instances as I do not want to trust my life in the hand's of other people. (I know I've caused a few wipes myself with my hunter).

I have been playing wow since its US release and never really thought about this, but is there a way to find out your death count??  I know in other MMOs there is usually a tracker set up for this.

When i played AC 1 i used to be one the chars with the most deaths on my server.

If anyone knows please let me knowimage

Go with a warlock for the soul stone, 1 shaman spec'd with 20 min self res, priest, warrior, mage.

If a 10 man is having problems with strat/scholo/brd....leave the group.  Those places can easily be done 5 man, if your 10 man group cant hang, just leave before it gets ugly.

Instead of deleting...maybe a special server could be doing that, and folks who died and that didn't get a rez are throwed to another new server called something like hell or second chance.  The goal is of course to remain on the hard server.  On the hell server you should have a mark beside your new level...reading the old level when you entered the hell server, it would be a badge of honor there to have a very high number for folks that choose to continue on the second chance server.  This second chance server could definitely have some "hard rule", dunnow what, but to show it is a downgrade to not be on the original server anymore.  I suppose on the second chance server you would have a guild of weirdo that have a prime requisite to join them, join them at level 1!  (mean a full progression on the second chance server)  *grin*  All in all, many folks would enjoy such a setting.

Such a server would have an unique community, which in turn would improve the gameplay experience of many players. (I dont say the community would be nice or mature, I say it would be different and unique).

I agree with whoever posted that idea of two servers. In my last wave of diablo 2 playing, I joined a private server in which someone made a mod to the game which I might say was way better than what blizzard had put forth. But the community was very small and it was hardcore, I had the highest character there till i devided to start chatting with people in the middle of a fight that I thought was over. Strong + cursed + a few crits meant my lvl 86 zon was gone. But the community was excellent, people helped each other, essentially each baal run or diablo run was like an instance.

Blizzard made WoW cater to a lot of people and I think making a hardcore server would cater to a small group of people, I for one, would move to that server immediately.

Mark my words, you've never really played a MMORPG until death means death. Not that diablo was an MMORPG, but after playing hardcore diablo, I could never ever in my life play softcore diablo. Hell I even dueled in hardcore (100% legitimately I might add).

My point is that if you play the game in a hardcore manner I guarantee you will get more satisfaction from it. I made a new character today, a tauren warrior and I was lvl 6 before I died. I then proceeded to die a multiple of times in a stupid cave. Essentially, you need a group 24/7 to avoid dying in this game. It's not like Diablo where you could guzzle down 16 rejuvenations in 1 second and then quit, which happened from time to time.

I am surprised Blizzard hasn't made a server like that, furthermore, they should make it so a horde character can 1v1 duel an alliance character and have options of loot or permanent death. Maybe it could be done in Gurubashi Arena. I'm surprised they haven't done that, I think it is a safe idea to have consentual duels that have consequences people like to ask for, like item loot or gold loot or permanent death. I wonder how many people would be willing to risk their characters in a loser dies situation.

Anyway, If there is an interest to group with me on Silver Hand server on the alliance side, I only plan to play that character like a few hours a week (2-4 max).
