Worth waiting for?

im wondering if this game will be my next MMO, but should I really wait for it?  I was a hardcore EQ player and was dissappointed in EQ2 but now that it has improved it is sad to see how small the community is.. therefore im going to cancel it out completely.  Im looking for a game that has a huge community, hardcore players,  a nice PvP system, and isnt easy or gets boring after 3 months.  and i think vanguard will have that  but it seems Dark and Light is getting a huge rep..
I dont no what to do because im one of those guys that will want to get hooked on 1 game in which I will never get bored of, a game that goes on forever and I hate changing games. Therefore i dont want to go out and buy DnL to find out its shit compared to Vanguard.

Dunno, what I've read of vanguard I think it will look pretty, but be a boring ass pve grind game. I guess some people think thats fun. If thats you, you might like it. I don't recall hearing anything about pvp in that game though.

Sounds like it will be big on group things and raids and tough pve content. So go for it if thats your bag.

DnL doesn't sound as promising as it did before, I'm going to wait for that to come out and see what people say before I even give it a second look.

How small the EQ2 community is?? There are 450-500 thousand subscribers right now, the servers are medium to heavy every night. Are you smoking crack? Or have you even played it lately?

Anyways I'm playing EQ2 and SWG until Vanguard comes out and then I will give that a good month at least. If Vanguard isn't better than EQ2 then I'll be sticking with it. I want to try Dark and Light too when it comes out, should be sweet.

Vanguard is what I'm pinning my future hopes on though. Sorry I got a chuckle out of that "small community" line lol please put down the crack pipe, if that is indeed what you're smoking.image

compared to the size of the game at "RELEASE" . Hasn't it lost thousands of people? I went back on my char and it seems so empty to me.. compared to other games right now, like guild wars and wow

    Did you play at release?

Well EQ2s subscriber rates are small compared to what they were hoped to be. It was released in competition with WoW and look at the numbers for that.

It still has a large amount of subscribers compared to most games on the market over the last 5 years.

As of July 2005 EQ2 only had about 250k subscribers according to MMOGChart.com. That is a lot less than EQ itself. I don't know what figures are at the moment, or at least not until MMOGChart updates. I assume they are somewhat higher due to later game updates and improvements, though I still can't see them being much higher than around 300k.

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!

Yes I played at release and the subscriptions have double in the last month or two. There are now tons of players, and you must remember that in WoW and Guild Wars there are places like Ironforge and the cities in Guildwars which are like hubs where everyone just hangs around and shoots the breeze. In EQ2 it's much different with zones but try checking the commonlands or antonica and you will find a ton of people. Prime time has servers and constant medium and some at heavy load.

Back on topic though, Vanguard is the one I am most looking forward too, but if it doesn't live up to its potential I'll stick with EQ2. It really rocks now.image

If you fan of EQ2 then you probally dislike VSoH. Every game move towards easier and easier gameplay, for players like me boring game play. I played EQ2 at release and I loved to run around on my own and explore. The longest group I had lasted 3 hours for AQ. There were actually a few players who felt committed to help all of the group to get their quest drop. After 3rd rewamp of the game I gave up.

I look forward to a game where people need to group and can get challenged doing it. If you played EQ1 from start you could experience it. Ok had some balancing issues with classes no one wanted to group with but did you choose another one you could have fun.

When SoE started EQ2 they had some new visions many of them DnL have implemented while EQ2 discarded them to make a copy of WoW. I look forward to try a new game in DnL but have VSoH to fall back to if everything fails.

You should try D&D Online at least until this comes out.  I think the cooperative game play style and role play potential will be similar between the two games, IMO.

If the community is any indication of what vanguard will be like then it will be full of elitest fanbois that attack anyone who doesnt worship the developers and bend over for them at every turn. So I wont be playing after its released.

My personal opinion here, one fanboi does more damage to a game and its community then 10 haters.

I got my beta invite last week and trashed it.

You need to get off the crack. That is the most assinine statement in a long history of assinine statements.

No. I have been waiting for Vanguard since 2003 and I am a big fan of a challenge, which brings us to EQ2. The recent combat revamp of EQ2 made it very challenging. I'm a hardcore gamer and I enjoyed WoW for a good while too.

Anyways, very short sighted of you to think anyone who likes EQ2 would not like Vanguard. If you had tried EQ2 in the last short while you would know that EQ2 is quite challenging in its own right. I await Vanguard and hope it is as good as EQ2.

LOL thats some twisted logic ya got there, i had to read it like 5 times just to make sure i understood what you were trying to say.

so 10 people being negative about a game is less damaging to a game than one person being positive about the game and dev's? ya i can see how worshiping the devs would be damaging, actually no i cant.... damn fanboi's and their destruction of games! ::::12::

btw if you go to a games messaage boards when its still in development, chances are most the people that go there are "fanboi's" but its not like those are the only people that are going to play the game::::39::

read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....

First: the comments about the current Vanguard community.  Well, beta testers do tend towards being the leet-er sort of gamers.  Seriously, casual gamers do not tend to be the beta testing type.  Yeh, that is a generalization, but it's more true than not true.

Second:  I am curious about Vanguard, I want to see if it brings back old school style EQ raids, where huge mobs of players could work together and do planar type raids.  I enjoy PvE, so it would be nice to see if they can bring back the good aspects of EQ and perhaps improve the questing system.

About instances, I do think they have a place in MMOs, but I can see why Sigil is turning away from them.  Too many MMOs are relying soley on instances, and it really kills community.

if you want to wait, go ahead. We don't need to feed you information. This is a descion only you can make. I'm going to wait... you know, passively. I'm not going to base my life around the assumption that this game is going to be great becuase I have never seen it. I looks good and sounds promising but hell I thought some of the point and click Korean mmos looked promising. I'm not a good judge, no one here is going to be able to form a definate opinion about this game because no one has seen it.

Look a it and ask yourself again. It'll be faster and more accurate.
