OK...I love The Matrix movies and I was always thinking "maybe I should at least try MxO some time" so I check the fourms for some positive posts about this game and i see lots of posts about this mmorpg that it isent good but the combat is good...and I mostly heard theirs lots of lag and I do suppose their is alot...but I seen previews and looked at the website and it looked awsome to me but I want to know the GOOD things and BAD things about this mmorpg...so please feel free to say at least any GOOD and BAD things about it. If I hear most BAD things and GOOD things at least all mixed up im still gonna try it because I dont useally take peoples opinon but still I want to know how its like.

Don't see the point. The box is only 20$ thats less spent than on a weekend out, and you have 30 days free with it so, best way to find out is play yourself.
i've been playing for a week or so now and am still enjoying it when i get time.
IMO the Lag seems no worse than say SW Galaxies. but it is a little glitchy. i've had about 3 or 4 crashes. and around 3 times i've been unable to complete a mission. but TBH it's nothing to bad.
i'm just looking forward to getting to Level 10 so i can hyper jump. not long now
hmmm. here we go again.
Good things:
Well thought out animations for combat (no right click for a slash here. it looks real and looks like it HURTS. which is what its supposed to look like.)
Great community. just everything about it is good. theres a few losers but overall its a very mature play base. much better than wow's, hell its much better than most other games.
and one thing i REALLY enjoy about it is, if your good enough in pvp or at anything you can become a star. people will remember your name, have vendetta's cause you killed them 20 levels ago. its just overall very fun to be someone important in a mmorpg, a feature that isn't in most current mmorpgs.
Bad things:
PvP is way too unbalanced. hackers dominate at group pvp and are overall a big pain in the arse.
Lag. ok i have no problems with lag but then again i have 1.5 gigs of ram. people complain about "lag" but in reality on syntax i experience none inless I'm downtown. stop crying and buy more ram, you gotta pay respect to a game that makes you upgrade.
no end game content.
very harsh learning curve (one of the toughest if not the most game I've ever tried to get into)
hard to level. mission grinding is so BAD. good lord it takes forever to level. boredom has made me still not hit 50 after almost 500-600 hours played time. PLAYED time. then again I've been slacking off to pvp instead of hitting 50.
theres more but i honestly cant think of anything right now.
your point of view of the lag in MxO is wrong. MxO does not have the graphics quality to be lagging like it does. the fact is that the game was poorly coded..I can play EQ2 on Very High settings with 0 lag, and can lower everything in MxO and get LoD lag every 5 seconds.
MxO was coded to load the files as it goes..its called LoD (load on detect) so it hammers your hard drive and ram constantly while playing..so unless you have a very high ammount of ram then you will lag. I personally have a really nice PC. I have 1 gig of ddr 3200 dual channel and I lag..when I shouldnt, not with the quality of the graphics in mxo..it was the way the game was programmed that makes it lag.
Uh, thats what I said. You have to have lots of ram or you lag. theres not much internet lag.
so uh, why did you just post that?
I agree, you can pick up the game for next to nothing so you may aswell give it a shot. I actually bought the game through play.com for £2.99 he he he GREAT DEAL!!
Price has gone up now though, probably cause I bought 20 copies :-)
£2.99 is a fair price for this product. Anything over a fiver and it's mr angry time.
It's an intresting game, only not a very intresting game. The most intresting thing about it is how they got away with selling it. I know the development instantly went bankrupt, but this is the kind of game that provokes consumer legislation.
Glitchy, laggy and with very very sparse content.
had a couple of nice matrix moments, and great interactive emotes.
600 hours! maybe they've changed things since when i played, but me and many of the people in my guild got 50 within 7 days of game time. we did a lot of grinding, but the community was fantastic and if you got to talk t your guild the whole time on teamspeak while listening to the radio station they run, the time passes by pretty quickly. i probably should have enjoyed it and actually spent 600 hours getting to 50, because once i hit that i was out of things to do. i got all the skills, killed some other players, sat there waiting for a rare drop. i liked how you could take apart nearly every item and could then make that item. badass concept for the amount of clothes they had. great while it lasted though.

I have practically no lag at all, culley65. I'm running 1gb of DDR333 generic RAM with an Athlon AMD XP 3000+ and a GeForce FX5600 with 256mb onboard RAM. I am using the Xtreme G 81.85 modified Nvidia drivers. I run my games on an Ultra ATA133 IDE 80gb HDD. I also play on Syntax.
All MMORPGs are coded to load needed files as they go; they have to be because the game world is constantly changing. In older persistent worlds, they loaded as you zoned. In games like MXO, they load incrementally, usually through a pre-buffer because MXO is designed to have little or no zoning.
LOD does NOT stand for Load On Detect. It stands for Level Of Detail and refers to how many polygons are drawn at what distance from the given object. The higher the LOD is, the more polygons are used to draw objects at distance. Normally, most LOD schemes automatically reduce the number of polygons used to draw distant objects to lower processing overhead and then incrementally renders them with more polygons the closer you get to the object.
Further, MXO's graphic quality is just fine. I have everything turned to high minus environment shadows... I turned them off completely, because for my system, it slowed the game down considerably (although it was still playable). So out of all the available settings I could modify, I really only needed to turn one off to improve my performance. It was no great loss; I don't miss seeing the dynamic shadows of every single building, bird flying overhead or other objects.
I see hardly any HDD activity while playing except when loading from a jackout or transferring hard lines. So I'm not sure what you're referring to about "hammering" the HDD.
Here are some links to screenshots I've taken in game. The only modifications that have been done to them are: they have been resampled from 1280 x 960 (the resolution that I play at) and they have been compressed by 20% (because I don't have that much network space to post the full file size).
As I took the screenshots, I ALT-TABBED out and opened Corel Photo-Paint 10 to resample and compress them. Then I opened SmartFTP and posted them to my homepage storage area.
Anyone who's used Corel Photo-Paint, knows it's a pretty big memory hog. After closing the other programs, I ALT-TABBED back to MXO, used a hardline to travel to Mara Central, sold off my excess inventory and had two more alley fights to collect hammers from crushers in case my pugilist gloves wore out.
Then I closed MXO and came back here to post the links and complete this post.
I may just have a magical system that bends space and time; somehow, I don't think so. But I have less lag running MXO than I do running some stand alone games.

its very difficult to say with this game for sure how fast you can reach 50 but as it is 50 is only worthy of about an extra month of play if you play only 3 hours a day.
they have changed the XP quite a bit since launch.
um bad-
its not realy a completed product.
the origonal makers monolith did not know how to code so is a bit buggy
good-
great comunity if you get into a large faction.
SOE are breaking themselfs trying to rewrite the code (this promices good things for the game)
the emotes are great.
live events are the funnest thing ever but can be distressing.
nutural-
well the game was off to a bad start and I admit I dont play as much as I used to but I know for a fact that very soon I will be playing nonstop.
I recomend you sign up to the hostile server for real matrix like game play. Reason being on the non hostile servers you can grind and only get attacked by NPCs which is ok but is a bit boring. on the hostile server the second you go to level 16 you are prey for any one who dose not belong to your organisation. (these being Zionites, machines, exiles) so who ever can attack you most probably will. and do you remeber neo well he was allways being attacked by everything. be neo orlive life as a carebear I want to level so then I can play the missions and stay completely out of the real RP.
I mean from the first few people who kill you just because they are level 50 and your a level 16 you will work harder so you can get revenge. you will choose abilitys that give you an advantage over the people who kill you repeatedly. also when your fighting in a big organisation war no one can switch off their PVP and slag you off if the slag you off you kill them.
there is nothing better and more satisfying than playing MXO on the hostile servers. you basicaly rob yourself of live a good 25% of the main feel the taste of the game.
