I had always heard good things about the game so after all these years I finally gave the free part of the game a try. Now playing just one evening may not constitute as giving it a fair shake but it couldnt hold my interest.

That is not enough time to give this game a shakedown.

Mind telling us, WHY you hate ao? – just saying you hate it doesn’t prove anything.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The learning curve for AO is rather large, that I admit.

Having played the free client for 2 months, and then steping up to a paid account with NW/SL/AI for the past 2+months though, its worth it.

If I wanted a cookie cutter game that anyone could pick up and master inside a week, I would have stayed with Guild Wars.

As it is/was, I prefer a game with a bit of depth and the ability to make my character the way I want him/her to be.

The character advancement in AO is second to no MMO that I've played, including newer "flashy" titles such as SWG.

Is it for people with the attention span of a flea? No

Is it for people who like a bit more to their game than a glass of milk and cookies? Maybe ::::39::

I actually love AO and ive only played it for 3 days. Reason i came here was because of my long time love affair with SWG ended due to that stupid NGE upgrade.

The UI is the only asspect of AO i found difficult but people are very friendly and will help you whenever you need it.

anything to get a post count

Oh, opinions are fine but without facts that's all they are. I, like most people here on these forums, prefer facts when making decisions about a game. By the way, AO does not by any means "suck", it may just be out of the range of your cerebral cortex. And that was just my opinionimage

AO is to in dpeth and it takes some brains to play it. to do you're skills implants armor and all of the other things. Its not a mindless game where you could play it in you're sleep.

Go back to WoW if you don't like indepth games, that takes a brain to play.

Try EVE Online, it has pretty deep skill system too. Maybe not as big as AO, but still EVE online has very steap learning curve. So you'd like it, I guess.

I've played ao on and off since launch and I think it's a great game.

I agree on the comment that it has a large lurning curve, and to get the most out of your character you need to put in some time and work.

But from my experience there isn't a game out there with the depth and content that ao have, and I've tried my share of mmorpgs in my time (UO, EQ, AC, WOW, Neocron, Realm and AO)

I'm not against Eve, but mentioning it in this thread? Why?

Anyway, I don't like AO, I tried too, really, but I couldn't, I have my reasons, horrible UI, clunky combat system, and the graphics weren't exactly great. But I'm not going to come along and say it 'sucks' because it doesn't. Either stop posting here, or give some reasons why AO sucks.

    PS. Your spelling is atrocious,

AO is great, it is more in depth than most any games. The only game i feel can be compared with depth to this is UO.

    other games have good features,
    WoW is sickily user friendly,
    Neocron has orgasmic PvP,

but anarchy online is still the best and it has more depth than most anything.

It has a good fighting system, which is thrilling and will keep you entertained,
people always bitch but its good if

YOU USE SKILLS AND DONT JUST PRESS ATTACK AND SIT THERE

there is housing, implants, guns, trading, crafting, wars, pvp, guilds, huge dungeouns, quests, and tons of classes and a few races in this game.

    very deep very fun

but if you dont want to try then play something else

games like this and eq are more progressive you have to learn and progress over time

mmo's usually are about the progress, its supposed to keep you entertained for a very long time
today more and more simplistic mmos come out, and get big, but notice they wear thin.

even guild wars is already becoming not so popular.

    Just another handsome boy graduate...

Let's face it, AO has been around for while and is beginning to show some age. However, it still is an excellent game to play. Character creation and depth are exceptional. Community is good; with those few exceptions who always make it a point to show their ignorance. As for the free game play, sure it is a marketing tool, however can you think of a better one?

  • MandyMandy Member Posts: 132
Anarchy would realy good if funcom will give it a new current dated graphics engin.
  • NeemisNeemis Member Posts: 5
Funcom have metioned that they may update the gfx engine...image

well i liked AO back in 2001 even with its horrible launch

But i can't see myself coming back to it now sadly.

But its by no means a crappy game!

  • jerryk72jerryk72 Member Posts: 10

AO as a game is decent. What makes it better than most is the community. At the moment its lost my interest, but thats mainly due to a friend getting me a trial for WoW. The one thing that I like about WoW that I hate about AO, is that I can jump on, play for an hour and accomplish a goal.

The bottom line for me is as long as I'm having fun, then the game is good. Once it starts feeling like a chore, then its game over. AO right now feels like a chore. In order to level, you log on, then search for a team. Then wait for the team to fill up. By the time you start fighting a MOB, 45 minutes pass while people are buffing up and deciding where to go and what to do. If I only have 2 hours to play, I don't want to sit and wait 45 minutes for a team to get moving.

The glue that holds AO together is the community. However, once Conan is released, AO will be toast..

I played this for about a month a couple of years ago. Rolled up an adventurer (if I remember correctly), got the extension that helps you search mission rewards, and missioned my brains out until I got that parrot form (?Reet?). Best instance dungeon system I've ever seen in one of these games, I can't for the life of me understand why other games haven't implemented them as well.

Lost interest eventually becuase the Advt. is a bit too much of a generic class for me. Pretty good offense, good heals, nice travel abilities, a bit too easy to play and excells at nothing (well, except travel). Didn't want to re-roll so I put it aside. But it was quite fun for that month, I can hardly complain. May fire it up again one day.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Its one of the early mmorpgs on the market, and one of the most original mmorpgs at that. No copying beasts and lore from folklore etc. And its scifi(well used to be hehe).

IMHO its still a game that can be enjoyed with some friends, and since its free heck why not?

The Graphics is the worst I have seen.....urgh!!
They talk about the graphics so much.....it is just nasty. It is like you are playing a game that is 10 years old!!
The user interface is not that great either.....

  • mehoronmehoron Member Posts: 146
For it's time, what 3-4 years ago the graphics were awsome. The games skill system is really great too. I like the fact that I can actually set my skills the way I want, not have the game set it up for me that makes a big effect on what class abilitys you character is geared towards. I mean the game houses thousands of subscribers still, and while the animation system is basic, it's at the heart a RPG, not a visual orgy. It succeeds as an RPG game with flying colors, nuff said.
