It's a consolation price for making their third failed MMO in a row in eleven (?) years time.
Funcom is quite the failure. They have 5 offices across two continents, support hundreds if not thousands of jobs, and have 5-6 online titles (idk for sure) that probably several hundred thousand people play per day.
If all companies failed like that, no company woucl ever go out of business.
Don't bother pointing out they had layoffs, Trion just had layoffs, Blizzard had layoffs this year as well (HUGE FAILURE those two), in fact, I can't think of a relevant game company that hasn't downsized a bit this year.
I'm no funcom fanboy, I was burned by AoC too. But I love TSW and it deserves to be recognized for executing new ideas and advancing the MMO genre signifigantly.
Like I said before, DancingTroll, all your assumptions are true, there is no reason for you to try the game out. Have a wonderful life.
Storm legion and MoP are not really games in themselves but hey, TSW certainly rates on my GOTY and Most inovative, anticipated is D:UW which is due anytime now but Star Citizen is most certainly my rising star as it could easily be 2+ years away. Tanks has to have my best hybrid as I play it so much. I'll give an honourable mention to MoP just because after 8 years I am still playing, more for my community than the game it is true but still it was the game that drew our community together for which I'll be forever grateful.

Im quiet supprised that EveOnline is missing from the list.
Also GW2 is just getting too much attention, which it shouldn't deserve.
This year was again a year of themeparks... sadly, hope that changes for the next year.
Eve is not a new game - hence it should not be on the list.
Just becaue you don't like GW2 does not mean it shouldn't get this attention. In fact, I feel it is not getting enough attention now!
Since when does an older game not deserve to be on the list? If a game is good it shouldn't matter how old it is; it deserves a chance to win. And if you're using age as an argument against putting a game up there, then nothing World of Warcraft should be there either. And if you're going to counter-argue "Hey, MoP is a new expansion with new stuff, it should be there!" then my argmuent will be "Hey, Eve Online Retribution is a new expansion with new stuff, it should be there!"
As for the poll, absolutely terrible list of choices. Every list needed an option of "None of the above, just give me the numbers". As it stands, the only one I could legitimately vote for was The Repopulation for Most Anticipated. The fact that you even listed SWTOR as a candidate for Game of the Year is downright alarming; I would have put that as top choice for Worst Game Of The Year.

Question being as it Doesn't look like DFUW will be released this year. (only in beta at best) Does it even belong in some of this years catagories? Most anticipated sure, but GOTY or inovative for a game not released this year? I'm think it needs to be removed from a few catagories

Is that "legal" ?? That´s buying votes....
That game doen´t deserve the GOTY award...not even the third position...LAME!

well they do have an official post encouraging people to vote for pirate101, but they don't seem to be offering rewards. i'm pretty sure this is still against the rules though. MMORPG.com needs to get on this. (i, for one, would be mightily disheartened to see pirate101 win those two slots just because their devs told their players to vote. that game deserves neither of those awards).

Well....all games encourage their gamers to vote on this kind of awards.... i don´t see a problem with that really....
If they offer a reward for voting...that´s buying votes...very different in my point of view....
Anyhow...i don´t even understand how it got nominated in the first place! XD
If it wins GOTY or Most innovative over GW2 & TSW.... i´ll just LOL !!!!!

yeah... that would be idiotic. i'd still like to get hold of mmorpg.com over this. it feels dishonest.

That is indeed common, and something even GW2 does though perhaps not with this award. I've seen them do it with some of the gaming magazine ones though. Is it wrong? Depends on how you look at it. There's nothing inherently wrong with increasing the awareness of your fans that a contest involving your game is going on. On the other hand, it can potentially skew the results based purely on a bunch of new accounts being made to spam the poll versus the actual community the poll is aimed at.
*shrug* in the end, does any of it really mean a damn? Is who wins going to make your game of choice a better one, even if it was the one that won? Nawp.

Im glad storm legion made the list. It really does feel like Rift 2.
It's good to see that TSW (at least for now) is leading in the Most Innovative dept. I think it truly deserves that title.
While all of you talk about Guild wars 2 and TSW, pirate 101 is climbing its categories silently.
Trully hilarious

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Advantage, pirates.
But DFUW won't be out this year. in fact at this rate it might not even be in beta by years end
Guild Wars 2 GOTY !!!
Best MMORPG i´ve played in years! So much detail & love put into it!
and this is just the begining....it´s growing faster than Rift did!
