same combat system (click every attack)

i was wondering if they changed anything about the combat. Me and my friend like the setting/story/ideas behind the game, but the combat system turned us off. I remember it making you have to click to to a basic attack all the time, is this the same still?

Pretty much yes (though I would recommend using hotkeys instead of clicking). There's no auto-attack since you're supposed to use several different abilities every fight. :)

You have 7 active and 7 passive slots to place in your active deck, and you'll use the keys (or mouse) to use the 7 abilities.  The key is to find the right mix of abilities from the pool so that you can be effective.

Most of the time you dont have to click the target, you get close to a mob or mobs and you hit your skills and it will target the closest mob infront of you. Sometimes it fails and i have to click them if i want to hit first....

Also, they implemented semi FPS perspective like TERA where you aim around with the mouse. The problem with that is that you dont attack with clicks.... your clicks are for... well, you guessed it, click on things and interact with the world.... silly system but its there, at least it auto targets when you aim someone.

Macros are your friend. Get a mouse and/or keyboard with programmable keys/buttons and you'll find the combat-system quiet good actually.

As Rojo wrote, there is an alternative combat mode now.

Just press "T" to switch to a FPS style which works in both 1st and 3rd person.

since they have the new FPS format like that, has anyone tried it with a controler at all well enough? I used a control in a few MMOs decently, just dont know if its viable here (7 attack skill makes me think it could work in the TERA sort of button style)

I didn't think the combat system was anything to write home about, but unlike SWToR, it didn't take away from the game either. Having an alternative mode might make it better.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I used a controller with it before the added feature, works great due to the limited amount of skills to manage.  I also play gw2 with one. If you are thinking of using a controller a great lil app is xpadder, check it out...

I like clicking, (too lazy to jam keys all the time) but this game is not clickable at all.  It forces me to become a hotbutton masher like everyone else.  I think it definitely makes is feel like more of a action type game this way, either good or bad.

Some other people in the thread have some nice suggestions though for macros so you don't have to hit the builder abilities frantically all the time.

Is this new FPS mode any good? Or just a zoomed in transparent character model? In other words can you see anything on/from your character while in it? Or is it just like someone holding a camcorder 2 feet in front of them? (As thats a HORRIBLE cheap imitation of a fps mode I've seen in a few mmos.)

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
