It is quite simple really, while officailly the game is supposed to be reliesed within the next three mounths, if you look at it from an outside perspective it is more realistic that it will take closer to 5 or 6 mounths to come out. In other words most people are not expecting then to make their forth quarter 2012 deadline.

I believe they made a semi-official announcement that the game would not be released until next year. The original estimated release date was end of 2012. So I think that is where the confusion comes from.

As long as the closed beta starts soon

This is Cryptic we're talking about. They could release it by the end of the year and call it "done". I wouldn't put it past them.

Originally, when the game was slated for release in 2011, Cryptic was still owned by Atari and Atari was forcing Cryptic to make Neverwinter into a Single-player game despite Cryptic being known for their MMOs. When Perfect World Entertainment bought out Cryptic, they gave Cryptic more time, resources and support to make Neverwinter into the MMO that Cryptic originally wanted to but was not allowed by Atari.

Because of Cryptic's purchase by PWE and the shift from SP/MP to MMO, this eventually lead PWE to allow Cryptic more time to develop the game and polish it off more. One of the many things they are using this extra time for is also to implement PvP.

NWO is now slated for release, "Early 2013."

Exceptional writing. I learned alot with very little reading, and it read more like a wikipedia entry (well written) rather than a forum post.

    Thanks. :D

Actually the game was slated to be released in the last quarter of 2011 while under the Atari banner, however, the purchase in May of 2011 (I think it  was the 31st to be exact) by PWE is what gave them the ability to change the date to the last quarter of  2012. The article detailing the change is here, from IGN from Oct 5, 2011. The new dates were only mentioned over the last 3 months (assumption from internal testing and select alpha testing feedback) as previously all mentions were still for 2012.

Yeah, I meant to write 2011 in my post, was a simple typo. Fixed! Thanks!
