Originally posted by HeroEvermore Didn't even bother with Wintersday. This game thinks its the SIMs online or something. Its not an action mmo at all. Its a jump till ur crazy. Throw some lame snowballs (havent done that b4). Do the same event every month with different skins. But i mean hey if thats your thing. umm..enjoy..
All these events have roots in the original GW1. If you were a follower of GW1, these events are more complex but harken back to the old days of GW1.
Every MMO seems to have similar events as I know WoW and Rift do. It is something different and gets people in the mood for the holidays. What is wrong with that. I think it is a great idea. Don't like it DON'T PLAY.
I think Santa is going to bring you some coal........

Same here...why do you think that is? I am actually perplexed on why I can't get into GW2. It has a lot of things that I like, but I can't bring myself to play.
Wow. I feel the exact same way as you. Lots of good stuff in this game seamingly. However, it's a boring game to play. Maybe anet should have tried to make their game fun first and then worry about the rest later.
Unlike a lot of other naysayers, I really enjoyed the core gameplay, the combat. I think it is really well done. Better than any other MMO I can think of. For me, it's just that after a while, it doesn't matter how good that is. I still need goals to work towards, and the utter lack of anything like that, that I'd care about striving for, undermines any motivation I have to login or play.
Still, curious how Wintersday is going. Just not curious enough to check it out for myself.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Ditto. I think a lot of us wouldn't be as "scroogy" if society didn't present the holidays, to us, in the form of a yearly enema. I'll be glad when December 26th gets here and the siege is over for awhile.
Originally posted by Nephaerius I don't recall transforming MMORPGs into fantasy holiday simulators as being part of the ArenaNet manifesto.
It may have not been stated exactly in their manifesto, but they have stated many times their purpose is to make the game fun. They also have a bit of a history of it with all the festivals they had in Guild Wras (the original).
Are jumping puzzles literally just jumping on platforms or are there unique powerups, interactive objects ala metroid or megaman style?
Besides what was already stated there are sometimes obstacles to avoid. This could be foes, platforms that go away after a certain amount of time, and natural events (wind gusts, snowfall, earthshakes, etc.).
...and while this is reported with gusto other games that don't spend so much on advertising have their events (and reviews) slide away silently...Any chance of reporting on EQ2's? Or didn't they send you in a press release to copy/ paste?...While I am here... you guys ever gonna review EQ or EQ2's latest expacks? In between covering GW2's every breath I mean?
If you are so down on GW2 coverage why are you reading it and especially commenting on it. I would think that you would be playing EQ, EQ2, or your game of choice.

No mention of the Bell Choir event? i really enjoy that, has some fantastic songs.
And ArenaNet have been doing holiday events in GWs since 2004 so it's totally expected and imo loved.
