In a nutshell, all Euro servers were taken down for so called "emergency maintenance" about 32 hours ago with absolutely no prior notification. Since that time, only TWO posts have been made by Tiggs (the director of communications) and all she said was that servers were down for maintenance, but no further clarification, CSRs know nothing. Just a further sign of SOE's blatant contempt for their customer base, following constant nerfs to professions rather than FIXING imbalances, bugs that have been present for 2 years etc.

Well the dev's don't know anything
The people fixing the servers will tell them an ETA when they know!
I'm p*ssed off at this and specially as we're getting nothing in return.

Blizzard's at least good with customer service
If this happened they'd give extra time for free.
Yeah...I'm sorry, but you can't fault blizzard in this department. Even though this is WAY off topic. I played/payed for 3 months and in that time I got given 19, yes 19!, free days. And I remember my server being down maybe twice in that whole time (and only a few more times, which I didn't count, for upgrades and server maintenance).
Unless you expect SOE to be mind readers, how can they predict that Servers are going to crash and need Emergency Maint and hence give you a warning? Be realistic!
They haven't said there won't be any compensation yet, so until they do, hold your horses
They are back up now btw...

Double XP is in effect on the three Euro servers from Oct 30th until Nov 3rd
EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE
Meaning, shut them down right fricken now.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.
You guys forgot when the GMs teleported everyone into space.
Anyways wow a 5 day 2x exp event, that is really good compensation lol. If you want a game with customer support and only customer support go with ragnarok online.
32 hours is quite a long time, and you should probably get some free time out of it. But it burns me up when people talk about how bad the customer service at SOE or Blizzard is because their server goes down for an hour once a week or something. And they're given compensation for it. I played Shadowbane at launch and I crossed my fingers every time I signed on for the first 3 months that the game would be running that night. It probably spent 25% of the time down for a good while. Did I complain? Yes. But I don't now, with a game like WoW or EQ2 that has probably 99.5% uptime. Use the downtime to get outside and remember what the sun looks like.

And anyone that thinks that $OE will give you a free day for anything concerning their own ineptitude, think again.

MMM suuure...
I love how people who know ZIP about IT just start making lame comments like this.
Speaking from experience with a 300,000 user network:
Sometimes there are reasons other than just goofing with your user's minds to shut down a server on 0 notice for extended periods.
And not ALL of those reasons can be discussed with the public.

I'm so happy I left this crap game and invested my time into WoW.
I mean come on.
Imagine I stayed in SWG hoping it'll be better... my WoW characters would end up sucking and by the time the expansion will be released, I won't be ready to go from level 60 to level 70!!!
But no, I left the crap game known as SWG, grinded like crazy in WoW, now I have full epics and fully loaded!
God bless Blizzard and burn in hell SOE! I'm never touching a SOE game ever again!

Yes John, we know, you love WoW
Hope you enjoy it, glad you enjoy it
Personally I don't play either SWG or WoW but your rabid fanboi posts sure are annoying.

Let me get this straight, they are actually trying to fix the problem instead of running is circles to give your whiney ass an update every 15 seconds. Why don't you try getting a life so you don't have to obsess over a video game? If everything is so horrible why no leave for another game?

They gave double exp for 3 days as a concession for downtime. I would take double exp any day over getting a few days credited to my account.
The MOST amazing thing is when you read these posts from people who make it abundantly clear that they hate SOE and truly believe that SOE is out to get them... STILL PAY THEIR SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!
Whats worse... the company that supposedly screws their subscribers? Or being a dumb@ss who believes that and continues to pay a monthly fee for it?

thats a hard blow to SOE/SWG. publicity wise.
Not really to SOE. EA was running the Japan side of thing, it's really their loss.
Personally I think the closing of the Japan servers has very minimal effect on the Western SWG. The game is still getting new players (and vets are returning) and people are still playing. SOE seem to be learning how to make bug free expansions, as ToOW is pretty much near bug free (unlike ROTW which is still bugged for some) and they're making some good changes to many of the proffessions (like Squad Leader which for the first time in 2 years, is now actually useful).
