How are you doing in these tough economic times?

I lost my job a few years ago (nothing to do with computers or games), but since what I did was a speciality (fixing transmissions on cars, thats it, and very few people actually spec into that, its a rather hard job and a very rare position)...finding a job in the same industry has been pretty much impossible.

However, I actually got hired by a certain game company recently. Not as a programmer or designer, and I can't name which one. Nor can I say my exact pay, but I get more money than I did at my old job. I was hired (among a few others), to go on many forums and post good things about a certain game. Its easy, pays well, and its actually a rather common job. Its more of a "no contract, we pay you under the table"...at least with the one I got hired for. The company is small and has hit tough times, so we were hired to say good things for it.

Really easy job, and heck, never even played the game lol...I don't particularly enjoy the job, but all I have to do is sit on my chair and make posts. And I can do other stuff, so its a rather good job. I might see if other companies are hiring for the same, make quite a bit of money since I'm not bound my contract and can do this for multiple companies.

What about all of you? in these tough economic times, have you managed to hold on to your job? If not, have you looked or even set up your own business? I know TONS of small businesses (at least in California) have gone out of business...entire districts just empty and closed. Looked inside one abandoned business building and it was infested with termites (could see them crawling out of the walls)...so I can imagine it is really hard for a lot of people.

I just recommend if you don't have a job, look for oddball jobs...maybe work online somehow. If you are one of the lucky ones, then be glad you have kept your job :) Hopefully it isn't a miserable one and you like your boss. If you do, then very lucky :)

Doing better than I ever have pay wise. Although considering I'm working on Christmas think it is safe to say I don't have a dream job.

Joke post? You do realize when some others see this they're going to crucify you.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Nice you have a job, but sucks you have to work Christmas. That should be a holiday for everyone.

And no? This post is semi-advice for those that don't have a job, maybe their stories and what not. And for those that have jobs, maybe they can share what they do/how they got it and what not, or how long they've been working. Just stories of peoples lives in economic times. Maybe someone found oddball job(s) to do. Kind of like "Dirtiest Jobs" (or whatever the show is called)...there is some wacky, dirty, strange, funny and many other kinds of jobs out there.

I lost COLA about a month ago which means that each year I work for the company I'll be earning less and less.
