Ok, I have signed up for elite dangerous in the full knowledge that the company could fold, run out of money and the game never see the light of day, but i sooo want this to succeed.
Am getting reular newsletters on progression (nice) but, am also being asked to support other projects, from book writing to films and even mine clearence devices WTF?
If you are a good writer and willing to do the legwork you will get published, same with films and as for mine clearence offer it up to charities or even the military, if its viable they will make it.
For games its different, I want the designer to have the final say on what goes in the game, not big company dictating and thats why I pledge
Even elite dangerous are asking on behalf of amateur authers for funding. You gotta be kidding, there are 100's or even 1000s of great writers just check "off topic" forums with brilliant writers who am sure would do it for free let alone the ingame stuff you are offering equivelent to pledging £1000. My god one writer is not even doing the writing, just collecting stories from other individuals.
Getting these begging emails starting to reconsider my pledge

You only fund the project that you want to "kick start". You can ignore all the other projects.
If other projects seem worth while to someone else, then someone else can fund them. If a writer has big enough fan base to actually hit their fund-raising goal and then get the money then they will. (Good for them).
