Time To Die...

Whilst the initial fun of breaking free from the tedious rulesets from EQ/SOE this game becomes a cartoon grind with a player base aged 7 up to 14. The mature community have moved and a ton more will move with the upcoming MMO mature style titles. Only the kiddies can save Blizzard in 2006 and they know that.

WoW made awesome smash entry into to MMORPG world and invented new gamestyles and gamespeeds which Verant/SOE EQ had avoided to keep everything tedious and time consuming. It blew everything out of the water back then. Today the graphics are easily beaten by the jaw dropping graphics we see in Guild Wars, which surprised most of us, and actually still is growing at a fast pace. Although not a true MMO Guild Wars still beats the crap out of WoW graphically. Most of us sat here and wondered if reality will ever look as good as Guild Wars...! Guild Wars is a more mature style WoW and fits perfectly for those of you who enjoy the fast pace of WoW, but that isnt in kindergarden anymore.

Today WoW incorporates spyware bundled with their game. Some people may think its ok for software giants to view your private chats and documents laying on your harddrive, but to many of us this isn't acceptable and alot quit the game. If i send out nude pics of myself or my girlfriend i dont what those ending up at Blizzard where they can match it to my account details and VISA card. I also dont want them viewing which websites i visited or my MSN chats. All of which are logged in WoW and sent to them for evaluation. God only knows what can happen if they wanted to screw you seriously. The only safety you as a customer get is "their word" that they wont abuse it. This illegal in my country (Norway), which is the reason I have filed a complaint to the government to take legal action. Further investigations into Blizzard we actually find they were warned for privacy infringement issues back in the Diablo days in a law suit. Somehow Blizzard has done a good job of covering this incident up and obivously playing down the significance of that law suit (You can still find it on CNN's website tho).

After weighing up the risk of playing the game (which should be a no risk situation for a customer) and how much fun this game really is... most people come to the conclusion that it just isn't worth it.

While they boost around 3-4 million players these numbers are expected to plummet back down to around 1 million when the initial release hype is over. I expect D&D and Vanguard will help kill alot of it too. I have never read so many "I QUIT" posts in an MMO as early as this before. It is a "purchase and play and quit" kind of game. The GFX is nice and the world is smooth, but it looks like they are targetting the kiddies age group. Yes, it looks unfortunately like a cartoon. This is one reason mature players even moved back to playing EQ recently. The WoW community is one of the most immature people have ever experienced. Parents subscribe to WoW for their kiddies. It's not for a hardcore gamer, its not for mature audiences, its for kids from 7-14. The package ESRB rating must be faulty.

You know, posting this on the WoW forums will not sway a soul. Also, its completely against the EULA and Privacy Policy to use spyware, that would get them sued, sued badly.

Oddly enough, ive never had problems with blizzard, Ive had and am still having fun on the game, the 50$ came with 30 days free, plus the disks and stuff, not a bad price. Ive NEVER incountered a truely unmature player in this game, what servers do you people play on? Im on proudmoore and the community is very mature. Also, I found Guild Wars boring, crappy, and poorly made, and it had a very bad community of whiners and total jerks, and after the first impression of the cool armor I quickly lost intrest in its sole PvP element.

I have also never, EVER had computer problems concerning WoW. I play its almost laglessly even in the capital cities. In conclusion, im not sure wether to see you as another anti-WoW pro-GW basher, or as a person actually rating a game, im leaning towards the first.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

You don't honestly think that Blizzard would package spyware with WoW, do you? That's pretty gullible. Are you 7-14 years old?

Most of the time when I read these forums I am thinking to myself, "Are we playing the same game?" It's said to say but you must not be. My guild consists of mature players above the age of 14 that enjoy the teamwork and comradery that this game employs to get things done. We have all tried and left other MMO's. Blizzard does not need "kids" to save them. They are doing just fine and will continue to do just fine as long as they provide what they promise, high-quality content. Everything I've played from Blizzard has been high-quality. From the Warcraft series, Starcraft, and lightly from Diablo(time-killer) they have always tried to do their best and what do you do? Skewer them because your experience differs from others. Oh wait, it's an Online game with real people! I'm pretty sure it's noted in the legalities that "Game experience may change during online play" or something along those lines. I'm sorry you couldn't find your niche but it does no good to whine and bash. Good day.

Yep I agree the game lacks content. It was fun in November and December when I got past the 1-2 hours queues to log on and play, and leveling my first toon to 60 in December was tons of fun. After that yawn!

  • ZprimeZprime Member Posts: 37

if you leveled to 60 by the end of december you need to step outside and see the rest of the world no and then.  Leveling this fast must have been a boring grind - yawn.  No doubt you missed half of the content and went straight to xp/gear/farming mode.  Congratulations on your big waste of time! imageimage

    Let's see.

"the mature community has moved on" I didn't, nor did my friends, all well over adult age. Also, Guild Wars (a "mature" game by your own definition) has been released a good 6 months ago and i still do not see Blizzard devs begging on the streets. Not to speak of EQ2 and CoV.

Spyware: It is called Warden and do NOT send such things as you said to Blizzard! It send them a "yes" or "no". people have proven this on their own but i suppose you missed that, didn't ya?

It is no different from tons of other programs like that designed to stop cheating/hacking. so you are free to send all the nude pics of your girlfriend to whoever you want that none at Blizzard will be the wiser.

"While they boost around 3-4 million players these numbers are expected to plummet back down to around 1 million when the initial release hype is over"

adter a year one would think the "initial release hype" should be over by a long shot, don't you think?

Instead WoW has been in the top 10 best sold game in most of the world for all this time.

"This is one reason mature players even moved back to playing EQ recently"

And this you know from where? your magic  glass ball? Again, my guild is made of 30 people. they have all my age. And we are not leaving, we play on the RPPVP servers were the community is quite nice, we have a whole bunch of Tauren Tribes, all allied to us with similar people in them.

At the end, you are nothing more than one of those WoW basher than every now and then comes on the WoW Forums (why i wonder, go to the GW forum and you will find more people willing to listen) just.... for what? annoying us? i don't really know.

No time to die yet for WoW and not for a goooooood while. Just go enjoy whatever game you like and leave me, mature WoW player that never authorized you to speak on my behalf, alone.

    Have a nice day.

I agree with you there. I used to be a powergamer who did nothing else but play games. Let me tell you life outside of the house is still fun. I have to admit playing MMORPGS for 10+ hours a day did make me get bored rather quickly with any MMORPG I played. Im going out today to buy WOW and im going to play this one on casual mode. More like 4- hours a day.

I find WoW's PvP system as a afterthought from a carebear dev. team. All you can do is kill the other faction. No risk, no reward, it sucks, no equip. damge, no chance to loot the person. Raids have no point you get nothing, turning s town to your side, in a "warcraft" game, what a thought huh.

Classes are fairly well balanced for both PvP and PvE.  Every class has a role in PvE (with some overlapping), and just about any class can beat just about any other class in PvP.  And you think this was afterthought?  Seriously, you think this balance was acheived by accident, then they decided to throw in PvP?  C'mon, if you are going to attempt to bash WoW at least come up with a valid arguement.

All you can do is kill the other faction.

rather than a free for all killing environment which just sucks ass.  Very few people like this type of game play (ie see the number of games that allow this), and if you are one of the people that do like this style of game play, then why not just go play a game that does allow it?

    No risk

Correct, just like a FPS PvP game, you die, you respawn, its fast paced action packed FUN!  If you require risk to have fun, then why not just go play a game where you can lose everything you own due to a lag spike, kthxbye.

    no reward

Reward is gained by earning honor and faction, both of which lead to getting gear....not to mention just having fun fighting other players, which I consider to be a rewarding experience.

    it sucks, no equip. damge,

So?  Why should I have to spend my gold on repairs just because I want to PvP?  How does not wasting money suck?

no chance to loot the person.

If looting a person is such a big concern of yours then why don't you just go play a game where you can loot people?

Raids have no point you get nothing, turning s town to your side, in a "warcraft" game, what a thought huh.

Well, in a "warcraft" game, the game is over when you capture/destroy the other sides city.  Obviously that wouldn't work to well in a persistant environment.  But if you want a warcraft style game in WoW then go play Alterc Valley, its pretty much like a mini-game of warcraft.  Opposing sides, each side has territory and resources to be captured, in the end you either lose your base or capture the enemy base.  Its really quite fun.

I have to say when I played GW, 5 different mangina characters asked me for money if they would strip for me.  Which I don't find very mature, but I'm sure this occurs in all MMO's.

I do agree with him on the PvP, but then again, no MMORPG has a PvP system that has risk involved except UO.  (This is to the best of my knowledge).  I think PvP was added in because Blizzard knew people would whine if it wasn't added. (Similar to how I've whined about EQ2 not having PvP)  And the way they've added it, took virtually no thought seeing as it's already been done before.  Nonetheless people are pleased with it, and kudos to them.  Whoever posted with the gold is right.  This guy should go play another game if he's that displeased with everything.  Although this is a "discussion forum" and we are to endure the bad as well as the good.image

First World of Warcraft's playerbase isn't 7-14 year old kids. It more like 16-18+. Most people I play with are 24+. The majority of the player base isn't as mature as on other games, but that is because other games have 300k hardcore uber nerds while Wow has more "normal" people that play.

If you are wondering if reality is ever going to look as good as the "Oh noes my 90% naked anime looking teen mesmer, got stuck on a thread of grass, while she was walking like she had something up her ass" graphics, then I fell truly sorry for you m8. That must be some serious detachment to reality. And if you call anime more mature than a mature comical style then ::::12::

It's not spyware that wow has. It's a anti cheat program. Spyware is something that sends private information. This program doesn't, Blizzard has said it, the players have tested it. Noone has found out that it sends something. Do some research before you post and don't believe propaganda sites of privacy maniacs.
There is no law in Norway that says it's illegal to protect you customers against cheaters and abusers.

Even if the subscriber number of Wow drop to 1 million it still will have more subscribers than D&D and Vanguard together. Hardcore games are not major hits, I think everyone knows that by now.

Put your money where your mouth is, and try some real risk.
