Is it me, or are server issues common on holidays in Warcraft?

It almost seems as if every holiday there is a series of downtimes in WoW.

It's almost become common practice to reboot the servers on heavy traffic days, and cause even more hours of downtime. What's worse, is there is a scheduled maintenance tomorrow which will account for 6-8 MORE hours lol.

It's been a year, and these issues are still present, and in just as nasty a form.

The guy who said "WoW is the best game ever that I can't play" is a genius.

I didn't play last night, sorry out enjoying the holiday, so I can't say if the servers went down or not. However, if they did it's been a long long long time since that's happened.

Nice attempt at trolling though Wepps. ::::28::

Tuesday's downtime rarely takes the 6 hours they schedule it for.  Normally its up in about 4-4.5.  That's why they say downtime will take approximately 6 hours.  Besides it gives you time to go have some fun in the real worldimage.

    Have a good one Buddy!

He's refering to yesterdays login server problems.

And yes, they have problems on high traffic days but it's not that often.

Actually, yesterday was another milestone in network management at Blizzard.

The event that took place occurred in the following format:

1 - The holiday event, Hallow's End, dissapeared from all the servers a day early. So, by the time you logged on it's Halloween, but there was no event in existence.

2 - Woops, we will fix that. About mid-afternoon they took the servers down to reinstitue the patch, and extend the event to November 2nd to compensate for the loss of time. That was nice of them!

3 - While busy on the forums disagreeing with people complaining that adding the Hallow's End pumpkins back in was no reason to take the servers down, they committed a tremendous error in...not listening to the community?

The actual Login servers suffered a failure BEFORE they were taking them down to re-add the content patch.

People on the forums were trying to get the attention of the Network guys, but the CMs kept deleting the posts and refused to pass on the information.

So, when the servers started coming back online, the login server was STILL FAILED lol.

4 - Meanwhile, the CMs were arguing with the players that they were assurd it's only to take...30 minutes to reboot the servers.

However, it had already been 2 HOURS! More for some servers, and they STILL wouldn't inform the Network team that the login server had failed BEFORE they took the servers down for the patch.

The result of all this typical crap was 7 FULL HOURs of downtime, right through prime time on a holiday night. AGAIN.

I don't see the point of why they bothered bringing them back up, because within a couple hours they were bringing them back down again for the several hours of Tuesday maintenance.

The overall result of all this is over 12 hours of downtime in the last 24, with people waiting in the wings to STILL play the holiday content before it expires...again.

The game has some problems, but all in all it's an awesome product. Blizzard has perfected the old-school MMO and made it fun. They understand the concept of risk, or time-invested versus reward, and players enjoy playing it. I know I always did.

The problem with Blizzard is not their style of game development, as much as it is their inexperience with networks and massive online services. But let's be real here, it's been a year, they need to get their act together. It's not like they can't afford the better service.

No company has experience with the massive network it takes to run WoW so I suppose inexperience should be expected?

Yes you will find Holiday problems in WOW every time. Even when I try my baby toons on other servers I have problems.
