Traditionally, video game RPG's gave you unlimited lives. It's one aspect of the genre I was never crazy about but I dealt with because I liked most of the other aspects. I've always viewed unlimited lives as something you used cheat codes to obtain.
On the other side of the coin is the hardcore mode where you only get one life then your character is dead permanently. While I like the premise, it is a little too extreme. I won't bother repeating the usual talking points disparaging this mode of play. Some of it I agree with, some of it I don't.
Given such extremes you would think there's some room for a middle ground. Hark back to the days of having 3 lives until you get the dreaded "Game Over' screen. I think it would be interesting to see an mmorpg that gives you, say five lives, then your character is dead permanently. This would allievate the issue of one poorly timed disconnect causing you to lose your character while keeping the sense of urgency not to die.
If you wanted to be nice, the game could even leave a percentage of the characters wealth to his next of kin after he goes down for the dirt nap.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.

When you die you have 24 hours RL time to be resurrected only by a player. Time runs out, character gets deleted. Releasing also deletes the character. You are able to log out and your character will still be in the world ready to receive a Rez spell. Next time you log in you can accept the rez.
All classes can cast a Rez spell, but only once every 12 hours.
Healing type classes will have an additional Rez spell on a separate 12 hour cooldown.
Resurrect scrolls sold from vendors have a crazy high cost.
No In-combat Rez in the game. Sorry if you died at a bad spot on a raid boss.
