What is so great about CoH?

quentariquentari Member Posts: 9

I bought Coh last week. Installing was a piece of cake but then patching didnt work. Found out it was because of a server issue. Well after a few hours it worked! But i took 6 hours to download the patch (1,6 GB)!? Well actually 8 hours because after 2 hours the servers went down, and all downloaded data dissappeared.

Well eventually it was time to play! I played for a few hours, leveled to lvl7 and then it just struck me that it was all just mission repeating, and actually boring as h....

My question is, what reason is there to go on playing? Is there something i have missed or what?

Sadly, I'm generally of the same opinion.

CoH is a very shallow game. It's the fun of playing a superhero avatar with a pretty entertaining combat system.

I really enjoy the game every so often, but I'll never understand the people who dedicate hundreds of hours to the game.

exactly....this game is awesome, but is lacking some other mmorpg elements....good game to pick up time to time and have fun=)

like, i've subscribed 2months this year, and i did like 3months last year- all spread out.

this is a game good, so dont pass up the oppurnity of playing it for a month or 2

I agree I didn't get into CoH that heavily but I'm liking City of Villans right now.  Some of the instances are outdoors now and you can pick up Npcs along the way to help which makes solo missions more entertaining.  Plus I think the villan archtypes are cooler (and possibly outright better) than hero archtypes.  Having fun with it so far, but of course only level 5 yet.

I think its down to what maybe is a  misunderstand as to what CoH was and is without CoV.  Like Guild Wars its not a true MMORPG, just a MMOG.  So really the answer to why people play long term is the same for those who play games like a FPS.  Its about the combat, community, fighting new mobs, seeing the different tilesets and in addition with CoH character progression (ie. a rpg element).  Task forces and the trials are pretty cool to.

Only with the addition of CoV to your account will it become a MMORPG, as it adds the other elements.  Those being opposing fractions, PvP that affects you directly (i.e. bases and the new PvP zones, all be it the zones are open to heros for free), loot (salvage) and crafting (for both fractions).

I like it because it is shallow, I don't have to obtain loot for my character to have better attributes, to me it doesn't seem like a time sink.  I can log on, find a team and go take out some bad guys.  I tried Guild Wars and I just couldn't get into it, waiting for drops from mobs and combining them to make a better Sword/Armor just wasn't for me.  With this game time invested doesn't neccesarily mean you have the best stuff.  I guess that appeals to me.

at the risk of being a big girl, dressing up is a large part of the fun in this game.
