The attitude of hardcore MMO players towards current day games. All the flaming on the forums. All 3 games named by the OP were not perfect, but still they where above average, some where way above average.
GW2 is by far the most renewing games in years, sadly most hardcore members didn´t understand it was meant for a casual friendly atmosphere, and keep kicking it in the back, making it look like the game failed, while its a huge succes.
TSW was not bad either, great atmosphere but not enough content to keep people going.
SWTOR was a great one timeplay through (actually 2 times ) story game. A bit to much RPG for most, but quite enjoyable for a month or 2.
Maybe all the MMO bashers by now should realise that they are done and over with current day MMORPG´s as they will never ever be sattisfied by any MMO any more. Its time for them to move on to other genres.
Maybe, or maybe dissatisfaction and whining will help the genre move forward.
I believe it got where it is today because of all that from players.

This post and the replies to it have got to be the biggest disappointment this year.
In all seriousness no MMO disappointed me this year. TSW was an okay game that I didn't have much hype for and I wasn't expecting much and I'm loving GW2 (and I'm definitely in the hardcore MMO player group). I'm sure things like WarZ would have disappointed me or SW:TOR if I cared enough to give these games shots, but I knew they weren't my type of games so I didn't. Okay, maybe my greatest disappointment was that I accrued such a backlog of single player titles because I've been playing MMO games too much this year.
TERA was my 2012 biggest disappointment. I love the graphics and although i didnt get far enough to try the politics system i think that is a good feature as well. Nothing else. The "true" action combat has no action at all when you attack slower than a snail and cant chain quick attacks fairly quick due to the heavy animation locks. Thats horrible. The F2P old school asian quest grinding is as bad and boring (and generic) as Aion's and Perfect World's quest grind before they added fast leveling. And finally, paying a subscription for the same generic experience is totally not worth it.
That said, i might playing for the graphics when it goes F2P with cash shop. I bought the game at launch and dont regret it, but thats as much as that game is worth to me in its current state.
EDIT: forgot to mention, terribly disappointed with the mage, never learned to cast long range spells? a spit goes farther than mages spells here >.>

Originally posted by stori11 For me it was GW2, complete and utter diseapointment. I loved the first one, but this? Even if I was to look at it as a new game, not a sequel, its still a dull and boring game. On top of it all they went back and still are going back on many of the promises they made. Yet again I fell victim to the hype, first time being Diablo 3. But oh well.
Yeah, the biggest disappointments here are D3 and GW2, both because of the hype too: D3 media hype. GW2 friends hype. It seems I just have to try by myself and if i like ok, if i don't just pretend that it does not exist.
A good example is ME3 which I love. I don't really care what people say, don't care that the media tried to get audience in talking bad things about it. I had loads of fun and that's what really matters to me. Another one is DA2. It's beautiful, funny and the combat is great. It's different from DAO? Yes, it is, so what? I'm not into games to compare each one, I'm into it to have fun - no game is perfect forever, once it gets old its flaws start to show up.
In D3 I felt more like I was playing a shooter (like Contra, but hey Contra was great!) and GW2 just another generic high-fantasy game (which is a reason for me not to understand how could people vote for GW2 as the most innovative game of 2012). I don't even like the humans skin as I find it poor textured - which I noticed it tends to be related to almost all asian games and perhaps the point is not actually the skin, but how the light reflects on it and everybody looks a bit too much made of plastic. The graphics are ok though, not the top-notch, but they deal well with lighting and effects so that everybody has a impression that they are a superb masterpiece, which unfortunately is not, although, I repeat, they're not bad, just, perhaps, too childish. What it's a shame about GW2 is that many who hyped it have left silently... and as they hyped it so much (talking about my friends lol), they should stay there and endure what now they just would prefer to hide under the carpet. That's it, don't go because of the hype. Play because it offers something you like. GLHF!
GW2. While not a terrible MMORPG (like SWToR), I was hoping for much more then what it delivered. And felt bored very fast.
Its funny, that games I loved the most (TSW, Age of Wushu) appeared to be the games I wasnt waiting at all. And those I had high hopes for (GW2, Diablo 3) became let downs
GW2 was my biggest gaming disappointment in 2012. Such a shallow game, especially considering how great GW1 was. If they had kept what made GW1 so great, and just added the RVR, it could have been epic... Oh well, an opportunity missed.
I was almost equally disappointed in the universal acclaim the game got, from reviewers and players alike. Humanity, almost as disappointing as GW2.
I still just cant believe how the could fuck it up so bad. off course expectations were high, but not just because of some weird hype, it was because blizzard used to be head and shoulders above the rest of them game developers. D1, WC2, D2 were some extremely good games and SC simply the best game ever made and unlikely to be surpassed in this century. WC3 and SC2 were steps back, but i could accept that because it can only go backwards after what they made before. D3 however made clear that blizzard is no longer the company it has been in the past. It marks a definite end to an era for me. No longer will i be preordering blizzard products months before their release, no longer will i need to call in sick at the day of the release to stay home without sleep for the first week. :´(

I think the biggest disappointment is how I find I'm getting used to all the crap games being released. Much like I'm getting used to the price of gas being high.
For many who depend on driving a car to get to work, there is not much choice when it comes to gas prices.
However games you don't have to play at all, at least we have a choice there.
Sure, tell that to the idiots who are addicted to this crap, keep paying for it and then spend all their time on the forums whining about it.
STOP PLAYING THE STUPID GAMES IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM!
To be honest, none of the games on the list disappointed me because I didn't play a single game on the list. In fact, other than starting up the original Guild Wars once back in March, I don't think I played a single MMO all year.
Of the games in your list that I've played, I can't bring myself to call any of them a disappointment as I played them on and off for a month or so and enjoyed my playtime in each. People should probably lower their insanely high expectation that every new MMO they try will be "the one" MMO that they will play and love for the next several years.
The only MMO I've ever been disappointed with in my twelve or so years playing them was Final Fantasy XIV. If I enjoy my time playing, even if I only play for a month, then the game has been a success for me.
GW2 by far! I can't tell it horrible game, but all hypo about was huge lie...
By far it the worst of all GW group, especially when you think of dynamic of Factions and variety of PvP at original GWs.
They told: no grind = GW2 is more grind as any GW but Proph, beside many other games. Non grind now calls WoW (and I don't like FU panda idea at all). They told: innovating combat system = jump, run, dodge and die + it bugs. They told: enjoyment of Dynamic Events = you enjoy like 3-10 in whole game and it's zones where people hide (rest of map is empty). They told: no hidden cost, b2p, same as GW1 = item shop is not cosmetic only, but done in worst way to suck your money, seems they keep updating to push you to use it.
Game is good if you don't have more then few hours per week/month to play, if you don't care grind, if you like mindless PvP, if you come just to chat, if you like the use of item shop.
Beside game: seems ANET keep hand on ban (I guess they hope all these guys will buy more then 1 game copy), push you hard to item shop, shut you up at forum and make you pay their own bad work (like nice celebration of winters days resumed by mass ban).
I'm not sure what changed to the company I remember as nice and helpful, but seems this game is suicidal (I'll not be surprised if in 1 year servers will be even more empty then GW1 now)
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises. Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
I know Isaid way back when, what is wrong with people playing GW2 and TOR together.
Well, I haven't played GW2 in months but I am still playing TOR currently. I thought GW2 dynamic events would be a lot better, a lot more group oriented later in the game, and a lot less solo play.
I was wrong. It was pretty boring, the combat is slow in relation to how combat abilities cooldown.
I havent baught anything this year that dissappointed me. Keyword is Baught, I did my research i beta tested what i could. So far i am quite impressed with TSW (If you follow me on the forums at all this is obvious) and im quite impressed with Age of Wushu. So i have no real disappointments.... other than Romney winning the Republican Election however i wont get into politics.
Because i can. I'm Hopeful For Every Game, Until the Fan Boys Attack My Games. Then the Knives Come Out. Logic every gamers worst enemy.
GW2 for sure. What a terrible game - absolutely abysmal. Was REALLY looking forward to a new pvp-centric game too, but they failed big time with the classes/combat system.
Runner up is def Diablo 3 (altho not an mmo) for me. And I still can't believe they haven't implemented any form of PvP yet. LOL. The Devs working on that game are clueless.
Honestly, I think 2012 was one of the worst years for MMOs. Check my account creation - I've been playing these games well before WoW (98-99 starting with EQ) and I was thoroughly disapointed with last year's offerings. Hopefully 2013 will be better... but I'm skeptical.
I'd like to see less trashy MOBAs and WoW clones, and more compelling PvP MMOs with fantastic new combat systems and immersive worlds.
