UPDATE: According to a new post at Kotaku, this all may be an elaborate hoax to highlight the Kickstarter craze and potential abuses. See what you think!
According to a new post on the Firefly Online Facebook page, the game developers have been given the go-ahead by Fox to launch a Kickstarter campaign later this month. The team indicates that the fund raiser will officially begin on January 20th.
After numerous telephone conversations, both the Executive and Legal Staff of 20th Century Fox have given DarkCryo Entertainment their well wishes for an inspired - not endorsed - title at this juncture.
There is a huge distinction between the two regarding derivative works, and we are continuously working with the senior counsel of 20th to ensure their property remain protected.

Well legit or not... Do NOT make a Firefly MMO. All you will do is make me have a bad taste in my mouth, because developers and Publishers have no idea how to give the fans what they expect. They have their "artistic" vision on how something should be, rather than what it is.
Good luck Serenity.
They have to do this:
I don't know if I'm more confused or less confused.
** edit **
They mentioned B2P. Nice.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
BASICALLY
They're not making a Firefly game, and whilst 20th Century Fox may have given them "well wishes", they'll more than likely be told to rebrand of get CnDd very shortly.
I have absolutely no faith in these guys, wish them luck, but will probably seeing them bowing out in short order. Fox isn't going to allow them to charge for a Firefly MMO that isn't even licensed.
Basically Fox won't allow any of the Firefly flavor in the game. Planet name, ship details, "Shiny" none of that can be used.
They will allow a Western in space is about it, is what I got from that.
They are determined. They have been after this one idea for years, and haven't let up. Now if they have a little bit of development skill to go along with the determination, they might actually make a decent game, Firefly themed or not.

Or they could wait and see if something like this project turns into a real game, with a real following, and then license the Firefly IP. No risk on their part at all. They aren't tied to a risky project, and if it succeeds, they can make money off the IP.

Not that it is a a bad thing. Not being bound by a license is most likley the best way to go and they can have some fun with the "not firefly" angle
This have been a good conversation
Well that screenshot could be anything to be honest. It looks like a pic from wow that been photo shopped. Quite frankly it looked like a wild west theme, and while Firefly was cowboys in space it had a lot to the tech side as well, and what I saw did not give me any hopes that they are going to get it right.
All I can say is I will believe it when I see it happen. After reading that article I was left going what the heck.
Don't encourage them! That kind of thinking brought us AVP instead of a James Cameron directed Aliens 5.
