Gameforge has a history of putting in place restrictive and exploitative payment models. They seem to have little interest in engaging players on any level beyond treating us like cash cows.
Compare Aion EU to Aion NA and you will see a striking difference in philosophy. Where NCSoft are comfortable enough to NOT put in place restrictive blocks for free players, as well as having a cash shop item that deals mostly in vanity and "light" purchases, Gameforge has gone in the opposite direction choosing restrictions and exploitative RMT practices en masses (pun totally intended).
Gameforge used to work under a different name, but they "flipped" branding a few years ago after they managed to poision their old brand name with their nutty business practices.
So yeah... bear in mind that the NA servers are geared for NA players (which may result in lag from the EU), but if you can get away with it... play NA version instead.
If you live in EU, go EU.. if you live in NA, go NA.
Both companies are about equal to eachother, both lazy. People saying EU makes worst decisions.. all decisions amde by the EU company are directed by the en-masse.. the EU company is paid to run the servers, they cant alter the game and cant do anything unless said by en-masse
Both eu as well as NA are both active.. i would for the sake of having good pvp go for the region with the lowest ms.
I had the same question whether to jon NA or EU. After some research I decided for NA. Is it true that the EU version removed blood from the game? Seems like a lot of players were pissed about it and that really tainted the reputation of Gameforge.

The blood issue was a sore topic for them at the time which I *think* they reversed . . . it was too long ago. The problem with the EU was the really poor service Gameforge-Berlin provided. I'd vote NA. Sacrifice a little ping for better service.
Well, before the F2P announcement the US version was 20 bucks, the EU version was 50 EUR (about 65 bucks). After the F2P announcement, the EU version announced a "discount" for those who want to go for the Veteran status, selling the game for half price, which still is about 32 bucks, a lot more than US version. Also, if you can compare Aion EU with Aion US free to play restrictions, you can make your own idea about what to expect from Gameforge. Personally, i'd rather play with 500 ping than having to deal with Gameforge.

Gameforge really isn't worth your time or money.
