Taking that stance on IGE causes you to be not recognized as much by some games.
Secondly it's almost an insult to your members.
If you want to use ige you know where to go we don't need ads. Even though it may seem trivial why acquire some peoples mistrust for ige ad's.
Might as well just fill there spot with a donate ad i'd probally toss some dollars in.
Edited some typo's
Edited- The views expressed above are not to be flamed they are my personal opinions the poll below is unbaised vote how you see fit.

Oh and ya at one time I did try to create a online gaming rpg site. I had the layout paided for, but yes I know hosting is expensive.

I'm neutral on the subject of IGE and similiar forms of trading. If the game's economic and advancement model is so broken that players don't want to play it how the developer intended, fine. Maybe that should be incentive to create innovative games.
However, the idea of a donation link via paypal isn't a bad idea at all. Or rather, through a couple of online payment services. Not everyone has paypal, and some people don't use their service because of past issues.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby
I was going to say something to the opener, but why bother. If you think you can do better then MMORPG.com without ad banners. Please leave now, and go set up your ad-free version of MMORPG.com. Be sure to drop by and let us know how it goes.
Nothing is worse then a person that can't appreciate the hard work of others. MMORPG.com works hard to keep the site going, and the community informed and happy. Yet they take flak over a stupid banner that no one is forcing you/me, or anyone else to click? The stupidity of some people is staggering.

Most people I talked to see the IGE stuff sorta unblancing. But there must be a good amount of people using the service for it to grow like it has.
I personally dont like it, people know where to find the site if they want to use it. Advertising it just encorages them.
Not at all, there are a lot of MMORPG players who don't know about IGE, and frankly that's the purpose of IGE advertising. It's not like MMORPG is asking IGE to advertise, it's the opposite way around. If IGE wants to advertise, then they will, simple as that.
Like other people have said, if you honestly don't like the IGE banners, point your eyes down.

I'm not saying remove all ads just IGE ADS
I don't care if they use them personally but I still voted yes. Yes I know this is contradicting.
Lastly I feel that removing the ige ads help the intergity of the site.

I know somthing is missing with that edit you made in the author post.
I don't know what was edited, but all I can say is this: "The reason this site exists is because of capitalism. Without the ads, you would be paying to access this site. How much are you willing to spend to do this?" - grunty

I agree,
1. no one is forcing anyone to click on the ads
2. im sure mmorpg.com staff works very hard to keep the site updated and going and all
3. if you dont like it, just get a ad banner plugin for firefox and stop whining
4. i am against IGE, but there is nothing we cand about it, well there is, which is not buying any of the stuff they sell, but thats out of the question because its not gonna work.
and uh... no offense =D
Just edited typo's
Not all fixed I know but i've only had like 2 hours of sleep. Just out of work and dentist now ?>(

I think its fairly easy to call for the removal of ads when its not your livlihood that is affected by them. If we had to pay to visit MMORPG.com then maybe your views would be more appropriate but as it is we don't have to pay and therefore we should just be thankfull that the site has people working hard to gain advertising revenue so as to remain free.
I'm sure if you looked you couldn't find a more informative site...if you can tell us about it.
I personally don't agree with IGE but as already stated I don't have to click on the banner. Also, this site isn't just dedicated to people who don't use IGE or don't agree with it...I don't agree with many of the practices employed my many of the MMORPG publishers such as Blizzard and SOE, as I'm sure others don't either but we still all play them cause they are of interest to us...just as IGE is of interest to its users.
You gotta love the Capitalist economy though, where else could you buy and sell someone elses intellectual property for real life currency?
I don't think the ads should be removed. Somewhere in there, IGE paid for you to make this post... you should be glad a company out there is letting you do it.
That, and I don't think this poll is going to sway them.
They're already doing a great job not using popups (most annoying), and every single ad on this site supports MMOGs of some sort. Mostly game ads and then every once in awhile the IGE ad.
And like the dude said, if you don't want to use their service, don't click it.

Are you going to begin donating to take up the slack for that lost of revenue? If no, then you have no right to request a banner be removed. It's as simple as that.
MMORPG.com staff probably has varied opinions on the IGE/Selling situation. That isn't of consequence though. Their job is to run the site they created and love. They choose to run in through the use of ad banners to keep it a free site. IGE pays for the banner space they have here. So integrity as you put it doesn't enter into the equation. As they aren't mixing personal opinions, emotions into the equation.
Just as everyone here has been given the ability to voice their opinions. Next you'll be saying we should boot anyone from posting here because they've bought x item online. IGE has just as much right to have a banner here as does any other company. Would you be happy if they replaced the IGE banner with some lude porn ad banner?
Simple put, the banner isn't bothering anyone. No one is forced to click on it. Most people didn't even know IGE had a banner here till someone bought it up. The only reaosn people know about it now, yet again it because people like you keep bringing it. By creating new threads on old topics that have been discussed to death. MMORPG.com doesn't support IGE. They aren't affliated with them, nor do they work for them. So quit with the crap about "Lastly I feel that removing the ige ads help the intergity of the site." Because it's just utter non-sense. The banner isn't bothering anyone.

I can guarantee you that more people use IGE then anyone really knows.I used to play AO shortly after launch and there were some players who would give away insane amounys of credits to new players wich was really cool.
I look at it like pot smokers,we will never know how many people really smoke pot, nor how many use
IGE because know 1 who is smart enough would ever admit it.
I recently showed a friend who plays WoW the IGE site and he bought a whole bunch of gold.He knew he shouldnt be doing it sure but he has the extra cash so he did it anyway.
The worst that can happen is the player gets banned big deal.

MMORPG should put ads for whatever they want as long as it is not adult or inappropriate.
My stance on IGE: look all it really does is balance things out. There are those who have gobs and gobs of free time. I am not one of those people. They are generally kids or losers.
There are others who don't have that much spare time but some spare money. I have a little of that.
The only time I used IGE was on Ultima Online, I bought like a million gold for 5 bucks or something. I never had time to farm that much money and I didn't really play enough to have any connections.
If there is something worth having you can bet there will be people buying and selling it,. Those who argue that virtual worlds should be a new frontier free from the evil corruption of money are deluding themselves.
I dont mind them at all.
I still think MMORPG should have a paying member option so remove ads
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
