REAL time combat? OMG OMG!!!11

Jesus...

The biggest flaw for me in every single MMORPG to date has been the fact that they all had sandwhich combat. what was the fun to swing a sword when you could not control its hit?

I loved jedi knight... Because when you were a jedi and you swinged your saber it was actually your actions that would swing its directions and hit. I mean... The satisfaction in that was 10 billion times greater than some dumb auto attack crappy concept.

Im like; this is too cool to be true. It has to suck... It cant work because then someone else would have done it by now.

I refuse to belive that SWG is truly the only game that still dares to be different, for good or bad. Damn... I would wish Ralph Koaster would give input to them again.

I swore never to touch SWG again. I SWORE. But looking at the current MMOs and my bad beta experiences with DnL, I feel SWG seems to be the only game that still seems to be worth playing - Simply because it was and is something different.

real time combat... I never actually thought that would happen for 3-5 years.

SOE I salute you! Even if this is the end of SWG, Im darn happy and appreciate that your trying because in recent times, MMORPGs have become the biggest joke genre in all of gaming. a time waste. the analogy and concept of role playing and character development have been replaced with wow/diablo like concepts and level grinds.

The only other MMORPG I hear will have real time combat is age of conan, but thats far off. Revenge of the sith on DVD made me want to crave for starwars all over again.

The force is strong in this revamp.

Um it's not really realtime combat, this is diablo style combat.  You just have to keep the cursor over your target.  If you where thinking this is FPS you are gonna be sorely disappointed.

Lol thats funny Pingo, i was thinking the same thing, i didn't even know about these changes, i just bought Ep. III and thought i'd check the forums because it made me really want to play again. I swore i could throw the game out because i would never touch this garbage again. But as we speak i find myself reinstalling, think the changes sound outstanding. now lets just hope that it is!

I think most MMORPGs probably need a combat revamp (not sure about changing all the professions as well though!image}.

People's expectations are much higher now and getting taken down by a soft furry durni, no matter how mean, whilst dressed in kevlar beating armour and holding a big blaster, is clearly ridiculous.

So let's have realistic beasts to fight, even at low level, and let's see more realistic damage - not totally but better than it is now.

The SWG revamp reminds me of the Neocron fiasco, where they announced an add-on not long after launch but eventually ended up bringing out a new game years later. But by then everyone had got bored and gone home, even though at heart it was a great cyberpunk game, with no serious competition until the Matrix Online came along (and that was awful!).

There also seems to have been a change in ideals. The original determination to keep the Jedi small in number and hard to attain has totally gone. I suppose in commercial terms it was always silly to restrict the most popular class of the franchise, just to be faithful to the films. SWG probably should be Jedi Online because that's what many players and many potential players want. Blizzard showed if you give people what they want, then you can have huge success. And you can imagine in many boardrooms, execs will be saying 'why can't we have a game like that?'

Personally, I liked the game how it was at launch but World of Warcraft has put all other MMORPGs under pressure, so I expect dramatic changes in other games as well.
