I will post the actual forums & topic this came from when I get a Staff member's permission. I think they can let this topic go as long as there is no source to it. I have copied what was posted from the original topic. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING OR YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND.

Ok, here it is: (Note: The guy named Shemee is the owner of the Lineage II private server)

I also have to note that a friend sent this to me. I DON'T PLAY THE PRIVATE SERVER.

I thought this was funny as hell. If the girl "molly" is serious, this guy is getting owned and his server may be shut down permanently.

I hope staff don't mind though...

Well, what do you expect when you even glance at those crappy private servers? I swear, game companies don't do enough to stop this crap. The sad thing is, some people are dumb enoguh to actually give these bunch of losers money.

Private servers are nothing but drama, and anyone involved in running one gets a bloated ego because having virtual power over people gives them a large e-penis.

Really, this guy is milking money out of the deal. I hope NCSoft busts him hard. I don't have a lot of pity for private servers shut down even when the owner pays for it out of pocket, but scum who try to make money off of piracy like this deserve any smackdown they get.

Private servers are great for close communitys, and playing an MMO the way you want without the crap N. Korea gives the US. A classic example is RO. Not all servers are crappy btw. Not everyone is a loser, and don't generalize because of some guy who runs the biggest l2 private server in the world.

People are not dumb about giving money, they see that in the long run they only had to pay a small amount compared to a subscription.

This private server buisness is no different than pirating a game, downloading music or a movie. What makes these private servers and the hard work that goes into the development of emu worse in anyway is beyond me.

The server you guys are looking at is L2 Extreme one of the best out there and especially in population and is a classic example of what happens when you get to big. I don't play on it, because it's majority is spanish speaking people and the fact that you have to pay lol.

I found this pretty funny. Shmee runs pretty much everything, and obviously his friend is a perv. Also with photoshop shmee could release what he says are the true screenshots <_<; Not that I am on his side, I am just sayin.

This won't stop the server either. If Mythic (guys who have the balls to sue MS) can get warned and shown evidence of private servers but not do anything. I don't think NCSoft will take much action either, there not losing an outrageous amount of money or anything. These people are only playing for free, they would never pay a subscription fee.

L2x is pretty well funded though because they got to big, every account must be paid for 10USD is what I remember. This is when private servers are stupid, and ran by losers. The point is not to make money, I know shmee is, it doesn't cost that much to run his servers.

I agree company's don't do enough...but the reality is it costs a lot of money to take action that puts legal development in the ground.

I never thought of it that way, espically the money to take action. I do hear the server is VERY popular though. They could give it a shot.

I swear I wish I had at least some post in here after 100+ views...it always happen to me

NCSoft has already taken a private server, HS Clan server, to court. NCSoft lost. Game over.

Cyber Laws are in their infancy as far as statutes and precedents go...

NCSoft has no legal grounds to stop private servers, so stop whining.

He is the owner of the server, he can do what he wants. If the dumb girl is stupid enough to do that, that is her fault.

Private servers, particularly in L2, take the horrific grind out of the game, and allow players to experince its fun content without months of work. If you don't like it, deal with it.

@Riki - What does someone's rank as a member have anything to do with the validity of their opinion?

I was just being a jacka*s. My bad. He gave an opinion that I just can't stand. The "who cares" thing really gets on my nerves sometimes. It's like the reply of a 6 year old. Like no thought was taken or no knowledge was obtained, or no time was given, it's just "who cares". I don't think I have to draw an example, but I do know you understand where I'm coming from.

Oh yeah man, If you read through, she didn't do anything at all. She was just going with the flow and pulling a front. I thought this was funny and rude. It's not bad to have a little faith in NCsoft. Now somthing I didn't know is that they didn't have legal grounds. Now if NCsoft didn't have legal grounds, wouldn't it be possible for them to update their Terms of Use (I think that's it) after they got word of the first private server or after their first loss in court. I'm really curious to how these private servers weave through trouble like this.

Classic cause of your average "Absolute power corrupts absolutely". I've found private servers to be a horrendous waste of time, as most of them usually fall within a week, or are 50 times crappier then the official servers.

Some how I think its only a matter of time before one of those companies really does make it totally illegal for private servers to be made, though, as previously stated, if its not losing them large amounts of money, then they usually wont care.

Yeah, I ususaly hear if companies lose too much, they will take action.

My stance has always been pretty neutral on private servers. I can see why companies would not want others profiting from their years of developing and paying people to make the game. But i have always felt that if the company could find someway to collect the monthly fees of people playing on private servers it shouldn't be a problem. I must admit that after playing FFXI for 2 years and still not being able to experience half of what the game has to offer, i would love to spend a day in vana'diel using my own rules. However I would never pay anyone other than the company that made the game to do so.

As another example to the private server argument, a friend of mine is in debt to a company for his credit card. The debt comes to about...800 dollars (he lost his job, and unfortunately, I don't have the cash to lend him on hand). The company calls him about twice a day leaving messages on his machine. It has gone on for seven months, with threats of legal action, but never any legal action. The reason is, to get the 800 dollars from him, they would spend thousands in legal fees.

It works the way for private servers (which I believe was already stated). Unless the company stands to lose a substantial amount of profit, which they believe they can gain back by shutting down the server, and is worth the massive legal fees, only then will they make a real attempt (in general anyway).

The example for RO was given earlier. There are hundreds upon hundreds of RO servers, yet RO still thrives, and has thousands of subscribers. There are also thousands of players (total) in private servers. Yes, RO could make much more money if they all played RO, but in order to attempt to get those players back, every single private server would need to be shut down, and that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars (even if were generous and say 1000 dollars per case, VERY generous, were talking 200k minimum, and it's gonna cost well over that).

Generally, it's just not worth the company's time.
