Nothing... this is one MMO that I think Ignorance = bliss. The sooner you play it the sooner you'll be disapointed.
PnP D&D players will be disapointed by the lack of "evil" alignment, missing classes, and the changes in spell per day and such.
Previous MMO players will be disapointed by the mass intancsing, lack of crafting, and various tons of fluff (houses, mounts, etc etc.)
This isn't saying DDO won't grow into a game that satisfies.
But what person, that can think with their own brain will be satisfied at the upcoming release? I understand the need to "wait" on adding the other classes. But excuses aren't going to make people happy. People want certain things in a game... Even if you say they be released 1 month after release your going to have an unsatisfied population for 1 month.
If the developers are confident of their game they will allow a open beta about a month before the release. Not some doctored instance run like at E3.

I'm sure some people would pay 20+ buck for a pass though. Ebay wouldn't work well because I doubt many people are going there looking for a pass.
Why?
For me to lose the benefit of discovering it...it would cost them a LOT of efforts and some money.
I want to play it, I don't want to beta or alpha or to whatever silly Ubisoft use between Alpha and Beta that means 3.
Now if they where desesperate and telling me they need a D&D vision...ack, that would make me cry, I want to play it! But I understand there need to be some valiant folks who sacrifices their playtime in order to make the game a D&D product...just hope it will never have to be me in this case. I even apply for Vanguard beta, because I don't want to play it that bad. I would not apply for Warhammer either...I want a fresh experience when I log in for the first time.
Of course they need some folks with a D&D vision in the process otherwise they won't make a D&D product.

I think DDs talking about the dude with the Alpha account man.
and thats not me sure he comes over here a lot but he does not play the Alpha on one of the cafe computers. DOG built him the computer he wanted and now the dude lugs it around everywhere.
as i have said we where able to play the game we never signed anything in anyway not even a click ok if you accept the terms.
now if someone came to you and wanted you to see the Alpha what would you do?
i will make a post of this one and post a poll.
Personally, I try to stay away from any type of "testing" for games.

It's a shame that such a valuable license, such as DnD, was given to a company with such a short sighted vision. This game looks to be almost completely instanced and for that we really don't need to be even be online as it will be more like playing a solo adventure with a complete lack of community.
I think you are the short sighted one. Have you even played the game yet? This game will be anything but solo as many of the dungeons will require a group to defeat. And as far as community goes, I think it will be at least 10 times better than World of Warcrafts community.
My friend is in beta and it's looking to be a solid and fun game, and a lot more than depth than Guild Wars as some people are calling it.
i don't understand why people would pay for alpha or beta accounts.
1) the game is nowhere near finished.
2) 99% of the time, all beta characters are wiped before release. why pay for something that wil give you nothing in return?
I wouldn't pay a penny for an alpha account, you would have to pay me .
Game's are so buggy in alpha I would much rather wait until beta before diving in.
It's not that I don't like to test, I do, but there's limits to my paitience when I'm not getting paid.
Besides the games out in around 4 months so why rush? what's to gain? You only have to pay again at retail anyway.

You can walk the walk but can you talk the talk?
While I don't understand why anyone would pay to test a game... to each his own, I guess... I don't understand why anyone would think they should be paid. That's just silly. You might as well try and find a job at a games company, no? I also don't understand why people would pay for ingame items and currency with real money... but like I said, to each his own. I suppose I just don't take my gaming as seriously as some do. I'm one of those fickle, disloyal, flit from game to game girls... you know, the ones who are just looking for a good time. I figure "what happens in <insert game name>, stays in <insert Game Name>".
You do however, get something out of testing, in my opinion. In exchange for finding bugs, helping to stress the servers, showing up for special events so the developers can gather data they need... you get to see a game being made, figure out whether it's the sort for you and, quite possibly, have some input into certain aspects of it. Some people enjoy that exchange and I think it's fair enough. I enjoy testing, to a certain degree. Although it can be frustrating when there are a lot of hoops and hurdles, it can also be good fun. Having said that, I still wouldn't pay... because once you pay, you feel a bit possessive and that someone owes you a good time... who needs that sort of frustration?
Paying for an unfinished product seems sort of pointless to me. I'd just wait until open beta or if I get lucky, an invite.
Besides, aren't we supposed to be TESTING the product, not try before you buy? (which is another whole can of worms -- trying before buying. I think that every MMO should have a trying period, even if it's just open beta. Taking $50 leaps of faith aren't exactly my cup of tea).
I don't know... you take a $40 or $50 leap of faith every time you buy a single player or console game, no? What's the difference? All the MMOs seem to come with a free month before you are charged a monthly fee. I should think that would be enough time to determine whether or not the game is for you. Of course, with an MMO, once you decide you don't like it, it has zero replay value, whereas if you dislike a single player or console game you can still actually play it without spending more money. Why you'd want to, however, would be a mystery to me.
Special Reward! No one told me about a special reward!
I hope mine is a pony.
I generally find it bad policy even at a personal level to pay to work for someone.
