Hey guys...SWG was dying, it was on its last leg.

TealaTeala Member RarePosts: 7,627

These new changes are things players have been asking for since before day one.  Combat in SWG is boring.  Hundreds of thousands of players agree that it was boring.  Even people that play it know says it still sucks after the CU.  Go read all the reviews and what do most say, "if you are into crafting SWG is the game for you.  If you are into combat...forget it."

Loot in SWG sucks.  SOE admits it.  Now they are changing.

Quest in SWQ suck.  SOE admits it.  Now they are changing it.

They had 32 professions in that game and none worked as they invisioned them.  Most were broken.  So they are condensing them into 9 professions.  It is easier to fix 9 professions instead of having to deal with balance issues for 32!

Face it.  Either SWG was going to die or SOE needed to make some serious changes to the game to try and save it.  They are going to do that.

I think that is far better than what Turbine did.  Turbine released an expansion to a seriously broken game and then turned right around and canceled it.  At least SOE is going to try to fix SWG.  I know from a vast majority of my friends that use to play SWG that they are renewing their accounts to try out these new changes.  Some of these people swore they'd never play SWG again.   I said I would never play SWG again.  Well I am going to give it a shot.  Sounds like SOE is finally going to give us the SWG game they should have given us from day one.

Do you take acid alot?  It "Sounds" like SOE is finally going to give us the swg game the should have given us from day one?  It sounded that way with the cu too.  Breaking your own rules to avoid your customers is absolutely the most arrogant thing I have seen from soe executives to date.  Ctrl alt delete's got soe down.

Maybe you didn't read what I wrote and couldn't comprehend it.  SWG is currently dying and it isn't dying slowly.  I have a friend that works for SOE.  She deals with the business end of things.  The player base is dwindling quickly(it was) - those new CU changes they made recently actually drove players away!

Now you tell me.  Which is better.  To let the game die completely and everyone loose everything?  Or try to salvage a game and possibly make it better and everyone stands to gain a little something?  At least this way us other SWG "veterans"(I played for two years) can partake of the game and enjoy it to.  As it was everything was being done for "two" professions!  Just two.  BH's and Jedi's.

As for my comment on the 32 professions being turned into 9.  I stand by what I said.  There is nothing wrong with a game having 9 proefessions.  In fact it'll probably be a thousand times better.   To prove my point how many professions does the game WoW have?   Yea I thought so.

You people that are against these changes.  Cancel your accounts.  That is what I did when the game wasn't how I liked it.  I for one am renewing my account because I'm like the thousands before me that said the game was boring and sucked.   Now it looks like it isn't going to suck anymore.  LOL!  :D

I already payed to beta test this POS game once. No way would I come back and do it again.

I haven't forgotten how high and mightly SOE was, refusing to listen to the the beta testers, refusing to listen to the players, selecting "player representatives" and then ignoring their input and requests, locking every thread that criticised the design as "unconstructive", deleting 80,000 CSR tickets - I could go on for hours.

Stuff this game SOE.  You made your own bed, now lay in it.  I am enjoying hell out of watching this game die.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

That is entirely based off of no factual evidence to support your opinion.  SOE has stated these changes have been in the works for 1 YEAR.  PRE-CU! So please shut the hell up and stop making up crap.  Ya the game was only 2 professions.  Tell that to everyone hear who played tkm, de, ch, be, swords, crafting, etc.  Your an a-hole for telling everyone who played other profession that they don't count or matter.

You know they wouldn't have been so shocked if they ACTUALLY LISTENED TO PLAYER FEEDBACK OR EVEN NOTICED THE PETITION AGAINST THE CU!!

The only ones who don't think it is dying is Erillion and Anarchyart.

You are in serious need of reading lessons.  That is exactly my point.  SOE was concerned with basically two professions over the last year - Jedi and BH.  In fact they just released a whole exapansion for Jedi's.   I was one of the players that never cared to play a BH nor a Jedi.   All the other professions were just as important as BH's and Jedi's.  SOE neglected them.  People quit.  Now SOE is revising them combining them and giving us 9 new professions made up of the previous 32 professions.  This means that we the players can expect faster changes and fixes to our chosen classes.  Tell me that is a bad thing.

I don't know much about the patch and I havn't played SWG for over a year but, if they are making the way one of my friend told me(more like a shooter) then I might actually play because that sounds like it would be fun.  Ever since I played Battefield 1942 Galactic Conquest I had always wished they would make SWG like that.

I like their ideas, but I dislike how they implement them. They gouge people for money and than change it all up. Again, followed this game for years, played for one month and they royally screwed me over and I thought they were done with it. Im not gonna resub because who knows what else will happen further down the road with this game.

Again, I do like the ideas though, just glad I quit before my meaningless playtime became even more meaningless.

What love did they give the BH's except for taking away any easy way to hunt Jedi?

    Oh, that wasn't love.

Now now, dont let a silly little patch break your stride. Im one hundred per cent positive that your money is being used for a good cause. In the end of the day, not only did you recieve a spectacular expansion filled with picturesque star wars locations, quaint concrete bunkers and hundreds of other things you never had the privilage of seeing in the original trilogy, but youve also helped the SOE development team improve the game we all love so dearly.

Fret not my friend for you have contributed to the greater good, and if that doesnt make you feel all warm and jolly inside, i dont know what will.

Well, I'm looking forward to resubscribing and playing my creature-handler!

What's that? Creature Handler is being removed totally?

Oh, but that's ok because less than 1% of players mastered them?

Funny that. In August, they were right up there with Smuggler, and more popular than Commando. And Dancer. And Pikeman. And Fencer, Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Musician, Ranger...

You want someone to tell you that's a bad thing? Fine. That's a bad thing. ::::39::

Well, I am a big Star Wars Fan, and I have played SWG for well over a year.

But all this what is happening there, is in one word SAD!

Star Wars is a wonderful universe which has so much potential to make it an awesome game, so many things that could be fun, experiencing the movies, and I believe very strongly, that if LA would have taken over a year back, this game would actually have improved.

They should have made it on their own, leaving SOE out entirely...

I dont see, and I doubt anyone does, the problems of SWG with problematic stuff in the Expanded Universe or the story itself, but at SOE.
If you go and check every single game they do, its all a very big mess.

Look at the lately overtaken MxO, they messed it up big time, like they did with SWG.

I am atm playing EVE, and trust me, it was the best decision I took trading 200.000+ Players, a BIG dev team and a lot of advertising for a small dev team, only about 75.000 subscribers.

There are Developers who really listen to what the community does, and dont see all this as a big chance to make money...SOE have thrown all their games into one big pod and now work here a bit and there a bit to see whats coming out...

I would love to play a Star Wars MMORPG, and I enjoyed the first year of SWG, but from then on it went worse...

  • starman999starman999 Member Posts: 1,232

I have to agree with the OP on this one.

The game is not good and hasnt been since about 8 months after release. Yeah I am sad to see some of the proffessions go and I regret the failure of what at one time was an innovative and original combat system.

The game needed an enema plain and simple. Something to flush out all the old shite and make room for something new. I hope that they will add in popular classes like CH later and if the demand is there and remains strong then they will. I am hopeful that these changes will save this game and make it fun again. I really miss having an MMO that deals with a genre and backstory that I love.

Long live SWG may it continue to improve and to draw all gamers and Star Wars fans in unto itself.

    Amen...

heh, i find this all amusing. SOE baiting and switching their customers with their latest expansion, collecting all the dough then releasing the bombshell on their dwindling playerbase.

condensed professions, simplified controls and introing a bit of fps into the mix, basically finishing off crafting which was crippled from the First CU, removing BE and CH completely from the game, making jedi a starter profession, removing BH hunting Jedi, etc etc etc

i quit the game when the first CU hit, when they killed the Crafting doctor, when they put in the stupid arse level damage modifier..... i actually reactivated when they revamped CH, but quickly recancelled when i realized it was just another long grind to make sure they kept you paying for a broken game. i also smelled another CU coming but was no way to confirm it.

what a complete sad situation it is, the game had so much potential and now its just another cookiecutter Fantasy style game with SW skins.

They should just sell this to Lucas now. Then run.
  • HelldogHelldog Member Posts: 169

Yet there is no way for justifying any of the expansions (exception to Jump to Lightspeed possibly if they had fixed it so multi'ing and pvp would have been fun)

I'd rather have had a fixed game in an expansion than more of the same boring S.H.I.T.! (EQ1 Style)

I'm not resubscribing till the majority of the players enjoys SWG so hopefully i'll never have to resub SWG again image

I don't stop anybody from playing this game. I play game if it's fun. I don't choose which game to play based on politics. So, If you find the game enjoyable and decide to play it, I don't think there is nothing wrong with it.

However, it might help just knowing what's going on. Go to the link there and read what the veteran players are saying. I'm one of the veterans too, and this is exactly how I feel too.

    http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=nge_discussion&message.id=1101

The game itself might be found enjoyable. However, playing in the fear of them planning something like this again while you have no idea, is not enjoyable at all (at least to me). They have done something like this twice already (as far as I know). So you might want to be bracing yourself all the time while you play this game everyday, so that you will not be slapped in the face.

(By the say, one of my toons were Bio Engineer/TKM, both are the professions they will remove completely from the game. )

Again, this is strictly for "reference". I do not intend to stop anybody from playing this game. image

Well written Teala, it sucks when no one actually takes the time to understand your points and lump you into the SOE fanboi category...

My only bone to pick with you is this:  It is now common knowledge that they are going ahead with the NGE to make SWG more feasible to the console market.  En1gma has posted a couple links proving this...  Is it better to alienate the dwindling PC crowd this game has, and risking it all (presently) just to make an entrance to the already risky area of console MMO games?  Make no mistake about it, SOE has already chalked SWG up as a failure in the business end of things, and they are literally only trying to save face in hoping that the console is their 'golden nugget'...  I bet you anything you friend at SOE would confirm this too...

This will flop horribly...  Few games can port succesfully from PC to Console and vice versa, and they are generally only FPS games at that...  Hell, look at CS, one of the most popular FPS's of all time, and that even flopped on console...  SWG = Dead Man Walking...  I love it too, because back in August I predicted that SWG dies in one year...  It practically already has...
