It has been several posts on why some says dynamic events are revolutionary and others have sead It has been done before, a thread with 30+ pages still argue about it and I don't see a end to it.
This is not why I created this thread.
As my topic name suggest is what I want to talk about.
Guild Wars 2 are the new kid on the block with new features and new gameplay, GW2 tries to move away from the traditional themepark gameplay which means dynamic events instead of classic quest NPC hubs, limit the trinity mandtory gameplay and tries to create alternative gameplay in the soup of WoW clones.
The game itself is dynamic in form and shape, the world change around you whereever you are there or not, the world is in motion constantly.
I see this form of MMO to be innovated and revolutionary from a themepark perspective, no other MMOs have taken this kind of gameplay to it's fullets, WAR started it, RIFT used it, GW2 made it happend.
I can understand if you don't like what GW2 has to offer that's your opinion and your feeling, but you can't refute that GW2 has made a change in how a themepark MMO can be made without WoW mold.If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I feel the same thing when I play GW2, there arn't that many variation on quests/missions/tasks in a MMO but GW2 imo have made them flow like a river, you are there you do it, stick around or move along without a NPC with ! telling you.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
Nothing has change huh?
OK whatever float your hate boat I guess.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
The OP is illogical in a few places but lets start with the most obvious one.
'WAR started it, RIFT used it and GW2 made it happen.'
Okay, so if WAR started it, wouldn't that be the innovation point?
How you can apply a game design from one genre (simulation) to another (MMO) and call it 'innovative' is just mind-boggingly bizzare.
If I add a DE system to DOTA, would that be innovative as well? /facepalm

Aerowyn is correct GW2 does do things different then the normal follow the yellow brick road type of quests. One thing I hated about most mmos is you go from one area to the next and you only do the quests and you hardly see any of the world itself cause most of it is not used for anything but filler space unlike guild wars where most of the game can or does have something going on in it somewhere at some time space in the world is used for the most part ethier for DE, Heart, or something and then when you do find a DE that takes you all over and area for this or that it just makes the world feel alive. Some of the more Dynamic events thats chain 3 to 5 parts can be pretty epic mostly when they end in a good fight like a champion like in Harathi Hinterlands theres a really masive chain DE with hearts and a dungeon event or 2 going on sometimes all at once but the whole DE takes at least 2 to 3 hrs to run the whole thing and its really fun. The champion at the end is really a challenge compared to some things you might face but its the challlenge that makes it so fun at least for me.
I have also run across DE in what people call jumping puzzels even tho not all are jumping but point is they can make the getting to the end of the dungeon just as hard if not possible with out a big group of 8 to 15 people. Most of the time it could just be a named vet or champion that blocks you from finishing the dungeon like in Gendarren Fields theres a tomb there that if you catch right has a champion or two that you have to fight to get the end chest and they dont just take 5 players unless theres a few 80's in exoties and traited right to take a hit other wise it takes a grp of 8 or more to drop these 2. Lets not forget trigger events that happen after you chat to an npc or click something that triggers the start and these can tlead to some major story in the area that leads you to find out some history gap that is not mentioned in the 250 years sense GW1 or could be some thing you seen in GW1 thats getting a close. Thats what makes this game so much fun to me and those I have and do play with its just got a ton of hidden things to do that most MMO's show you where it is.

First I love GW2. Been playing (on and off) since the BWE. Neither hater nor fanboi. Just passionate MMORPG player.
To me GW2 did not move away from traditional themepark gameplay. They just changed the way they implemented it. In any themepark once I go through all the 'rides' - There is nothing much more to do. That is how I feel about GW2. The world, for all it has in it is geared to level you as opposed to make you apart of the world.
I see this in the way the dialogue is for NPCs (too generic/casual for my taste) and lack of simple side systems like fishing or hunting. I want something to do other than running DEs, dugeons, vistas, crafting. Vistas are nice but it comes across more a as a game mechanic rather than something immersive (i.e. - I'm only finding the vistas because they are on the map - no real connection to the lore).
Part of what I love about WoW is for all its standard themepark nature it told a half way decent story that added some (arguably light) context to what I was doing.
I think GW2 can fix this over time, as the game did just launch. From my perspective if they could put in more content IN THE WORLD it might make it valuable to re-visit old zones again.
Tyria is a great world. Now I just need a good reason to live in it (progress my character in other meaningful ways). Right now I just play in it then turn it off.
And by the way, all of what I said can be done without adding gear grind so still sticking with the manifesto.
Wut?

To put in words you will understand. Quests happen even if you aren't there to do them.

and one thing i forgot to mention its an immersion thing with me.. After playing MMOs since well forever it seems i have lost that immersion that sense of exploration in any MMO in a very very long time. GW2 is the first game to bring back the feeling in almost 10 years. Some things could be done a bit better and i do wish more lasting effects were put into the zones but overall the zones has a whole give me a sense of immersion i have been missing in MMOs in a long time.. my hope is all future games see this and build upon it as things more forward

Face it, there is no other MMO like GW2.
Dosen't matter if you love it or hate it.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
If that is the level of "dynamism" in the game world than it is far from impressive.
Shifting territory control. New player towns and cities being forged and being destroyed. The politics of the game world constantly evolving and actually impacting upon the game world. Guilds and player alliances dominating different areas and then losing them. The terrain itself altering. That would be a bit more like it. Not cycled DE's.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Exactly.
I think I have played through Queensdale about 17 times now and it still isn't old.
Disclaimer: wish the endgame would get fleshed out a bit more though, taking a break for now.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
This is why this thread is doomed. There was no hate in the post. You started it. Just because there's don't agree with does equal hate. Try to get over your own opinions. Now, I will say that there is a lot of speculation in it that isn't supported by any facts from the poster, but that still isn't hate.
GW2 is great because of the smooth combat , it flows better than wow.
The gameplay in gw2 and controls rock! It's just that once i got 5 lvl 80's i didn't have anything left to do but got my moneys worth.
We need more of the Old everquest type dungeons / loot system/ twinking. even aa points.
Take GW2 combat , throw in eq classic content/ named / no level reqs / rare loot tables. 1 in 20,000 drops etc etc. etc. massive open dungeons . contested raid spawns. crafting that is unique to each crafter and takes months to level. etc etc.
No quest hubs , grinding monsters to level again pls pls . no games have the grind model anymore eq and daoc , eqoa were the only ones. every modern mmo is quests / events. give us back dungeon / mob grinding to level . quests for factions / clickable items etc.
you want a sandbox.. which is fine.. id like a good sandbox to play in as well.. but as far as themepark questing i feel GW2 is a step above the rest of them

I agree with jpnz. If WAR started it, then shouldn't they be credited with this dynamic world innovation?
To be honest, I felt like RIFT did it better than WAR or GW2.
So what is your point then OP? Why make this thread if it's already been hashed out on other threads. Or is your point to give GW2 a little more facetime?
I play the crap outta Guild Wars 2, and will keep doing so because it's free after you buy it. But the fact is, once you max your level out the game becomes completely boring. I've done fractals, I've done the shit outta dungeons for some cool armor, and now what.
The problem is, Guild Wars 2 is a cake walk, the game is simply too easy. I never have to group with anyone unless I want to make the game even easier than it already is.
Obviously I need a group for dungeons, but even the dungeons are easy once you get used to them. Which only takes one try.
Devs, give me a challenge, that is not about spending my life trying to get a stupid ass legendary weapon.
FACT: Guild Wars 2 is too easy.
Thanks. I'll keep playing because I love F2P!
I think that's the fundamental difference. What GW2, Rift and WAR have aren't dynamic. They are scripted events, not true dynamic events. For the latter you need a more sandbox approach. GW2 simply has more branches to the scripts, to give the impression of being dynamic. In a sence they are like the RPG novels of old, where you turned to page X, for the choice/roll made.
for you maybe but not for everyone.. as far as themeparks go id say its one of the harder ones I have ever played.. i don't think i ever died in a 1-15 zone in most other MMOs or found enemies that can one shot you at such low levels.. think the main issue is lack of consequence for dying... looks like the patch will put an end to spawn point rushing in dungeons which should make them a good bit harder.. i have found more challenges in this MMO than pretty much any themepark i have played in years outside raiding of course...

+1
No, is also my opinion, however i bought and played the game, even now, but when you find that at this point leveling a new char is pretty much a solo experience where you cant even do all the DE because you are basically alone in the word map, then all you can do is repeat the same DE over and over and over, that is when the game get really bored and repetitive even worse when you notice that there is nothing Dynamic on the events and is just a quest with a timer, just like any other MMO before. Tyria is not a Dynamic world, that was a lie. We have a lot of new MMOs coming this year and the next one, we wont find GW2 influence in any of them, i wonder why?.
what many people feel as "dynamic" can only be acomplished by actual players or devs behind the wheel.. an AI script at the level people want just isn't feasable in a MMO enviornment(at least not yet) but basically what many seem to be saying is dynamic content is not possible unless its player driven.. i just don't see that as the definition of the word "dynamic" and looking at the dictionary it agrees with me
