I believe roleplay is what you make it......

These changes shouldnt really affect the avid roleplayer. I think that the switch to questing instead of terminal missions will cause more comraderie among the players as we will have to band together to finish the difficult quests and having the same objective can allow for and stimulate good roleplay.

Also by removing the item decay it should remove most of the players fear of PVP style combat and allow for many more large scale faction conflicts which also brings about some of the best improvised roleplay.

Should make it lots of fun.

I never thought of it like that. What about putting item decay on what hits you during combat rather than when you die you take massive decay on all items? or just item decay from monster/npc attacks maybe.

The loss of item decay will hurt crafters to some extent

However I think that its a necessary sacrifice. I am sorry for people who want to craft exclusively in that they wont be able to sell the same items to the same people repeatedly. Hopefully there will be lots of peripheral items to craft that are consumeable and it will give them a constant income outside of crafting weapons and armor.

All the new changes seem to be a desperate last ditch effort to try and re-gain a new population, but its not working, and not only is it not getting new players its causing older players like myself to quit... overall i think its time to find a new game...

They simply need to readd the most missed professions & return item decay to some extent so Crafters have some way of making money in long term.

I'm fairly new to the game (just got my 90day rewards recently) but I'm a roleplayer on Naritus and most of my guild is on or trying to get on test center to see the changes. I've played a bit this weekend and the system is ok by me. It is a lot more limiting and I'm sad to see the skill system going away because I enjoyed the flexibility of changing my build and the different sorts of character concepts I could make within that system.

But, as someone else said, roleplay is what you make it. My main character was going for a hybrid jedi build for roleplay reasons. It wouldn't have been as effective as most in PvP, but I didn't care. This change essentially reduced my fs grind to a respec, so I can't really complain, lol. I know some of the veterans are unhappy because the game is being rewritten AGAIN. I really feel for those guys. As long as the event promoter items aren't going away, we have more tools for roleplay than any other game I can think of.

My friends and I were thinking of ways to use the blue glowy form for rp purposes, and were thinking aside from the obvious 'departed jedi master' persona, we could use it as someone sending a holo transmission the way obi wan did in epII, then have the jedi force cloak and wink out when the transmission was cut off (dramatically!). Unfortunately, it looks like cloak is gone on test center tho. Oh well... we'll come up with something :P

    Am I in character?

Role playing in SWG took on a very loose representation of the RP aspects of Star Wars.

The extent to which I was involved took on the form:

    "It's nothing personal, just business."

"You want to duel me? That will be 250,000 credits up front."

"Time is money. You are wasting my time. I'll send you the bill shortly."

Typical Bounty Hunter in the SW universe as I perceive it. Each of the professional combinations I played had at some time or another been role-played.

However, there was little in the old game that led you to this. If this is about to change, then the devlopers have stumbled upon something big in my opinion, something that will finally draw the Star Wars fan club to this place.

I must disagree. There is another game out there with no decay and lots of questing and the community is just awful. Its called World of Warcraft. Ive played on several so-called RP servers over there and role playing is about the last thing Ive experienced there.

Im betting once this travesty of a revamp launches, the only ones left playing are going to be 13 year old kids. Lets face it, crafting is destroyed and the only ones happy about it are the very same kids who were resentful of the system.

And later the game is being ported to PS3 so expect it to get much much worse once that happens. Unless they limit PS3 players to their own servers which seems unlikely to me as they stripped the game down to work on console.

They should have made Storm Trooper Armor and Rebel Armor the best armor in the game. They also could have included a comparable style of armor for those neutrals not particularly interested in the GCW. What did I just say? G....C.....W? Nevermind.
