yes..unless it is declared public domain by the original owners...or 20 years after the original owners died (but that would be VERY unlikely since it is a corporation)

I don't know if they have PS2 Emulators but if they did I'm sure every person with it would be arrested. You can get in trouble for a NINTENDO 64 emulator. Now imagine a PS2 emulator. SNES, they don't really care becasue they don't sell those games anymore and its been a while.
How can they know if you have an emulator? How do they control it... I mean if I wanted I could have a PS2 or Xbox or whatever emulator installed into my PC that I would see no way for them to find out I have it...
Well if Microsoft or Sony heard about an Emulator and they found the link they would probably trace whoever downloaded the program. Kind of like what Microsoft did with Halo 2. Remember when it was available for download a few days before it was officially released?
Kiamde, sorry but what relevance does a one word post "DUMB" have?

If ignorance is bliss then there are some happy people here.
Emulators are NOT illegal. License infringement is. However, if said emulator is LICENSED it is not illegal. Cripes the word illegal here is tossed around with as much abandon as stable is at Microsoft. Some of you may remember a nice little piece of software that came out in 1998 caled Bleem!. Legal, sold in many retail stores. Played Playstation 1 games. As long as the games were licensed to run on the emulator it was, is, and shall forever be perfectly legal.
Ever played Metal Gear Solid 2 on PC? You think they re-wrote that? No...it was a crap-job, emulation port. Not illegal.
However, if the composer of this thread is looking for an emulator to play any and ALL PS2 games I have a few things to say. Odds are it is not licensed. Double odds are it will be hard to find. Triple odds say it will be riddled with spyware. And house breaking odds say it will be able to play 1 out of 50 games with any sense of reasonable playability.
'Nuff said.
"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

Glad you posted to clear some things.
However in the case of the PS2 it is the BIOS that you use that is illegal, the emu and everything else for almost all systems is not illegal. When the BIOS comes into play ...oh boy are you stealing
I am into Emu's for N64, and below but otherwise. Pirating PS and PS2 games and etc. Is a waste of time, the console is so much better than the PC to play your console games srs'ly. There are only so many games like for PS2 that work with the emu's of today and it can be buggy as hell. On top of that the space requirements! Just for Playstation games it adds up like crazy, because most of the good ones are more than one disc.
I know what you mean about buggy. I used to use Bleem! and with legitmate copies of the games even. My old PS1 died way back when and I still had plenty of the games. I remember trying to play Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7 on the PC with Bleem!. Graphic glitches, control issues, garbled text. In the end it's just SO much easier to just play the things on the console itself.
I still prefer my PC games for quality for trying to get modern console games to run on the PC is just crap. I can't help but refer to my Metal Gear Solid 2 analogy. Blech...what a flaming pile of crap. Most people also don't realise that those console games are coded to play on a specific GPU with specific drivers and when to toss anything else into the mix it's havoc in a handbasket.
Now...I won't even TOUCH on soldering in chips to your PS2 to read back-up copies. That is plainly bad, bad, bad ( no I won't say illegal like most people who just love to toss that word around. It's perfectly legal to have a back-up copy of a game you own to preserve the original ). It's just an easy way to fry your console. I've seen a lot of bad solders. Not to mention with PS2 it depends on which series you have. Some of them STILL like to burn themselves up when you play them side mounted...so I would refrain from getting inside and messing around unless you REALLY know what you are doing.
If you wanna have fun with OLD console games and emulated games try www.gametap.com and www.consoleclassix.com . Gametap has newer games and newer console games for $15/mos but Consoleclassix has a larger catalogue inventory AND they have Nintendo games ( which I dunno...for some reason some of the greats I can remember where on nintendo platforms ). Consoleclassix has MANY games for free like old NES and Atari 2600 games and for $5/mos you get the rest. Not a bad deal really.
