@ ianstien- As I've posted before, some of the guys who are rage posting are guys who are still subbed and log in. They hide the name because they are afraid of being called out for the same childish posting and typical whine threads.

It's what all the celebs are doing these days just to get their names on "whats trending."
For what its worth, I don't know if DOC is just being the fall guy for the sake of subs, or if he really is that big of a dick to stoop to this to generate interest in his aging game. If the latter is the case, then some of the players are in on the scam also.

The audacity of this one. The grand wizard never hides
You may think you are helping the problem by posting in here, but in fact you are making it worse. No one in here has ever run a successful game for 12 years. You can keep telling yourself that you know the way things work. It is much easier than actually trying to understand.
You run a small time game for a handful of years and you think your God's gift to the gaming industry?
How do you know what some of us have done, or still do for a living? What if I tell you for the last 15+ years I have worked for a software company that has hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide, that use software I help build, maintain and support on a daily basis?
You think nobody else on the planet knows how to set up a way to dynamically release new content (patch) for their software, while providing a rich assortment of ways to pay their monthly support fees ( ACH, direct debit, paypal, Visa, MC, AMEX, Discover, or a simple check in the mail) ? You think your something because you had a couple thousand people paying you $18 bucks a month in your heyday? Some of my customers pay thousands per month. How about the meticulous planning it takes to standardize a set of operations to backup, syncronize, restore and maintain hundreds of thousands of databases all over the globe so they can run 24/7? OHHHH thats right.. you have 1 server and you need to reboot it every 24 hours or it breaks.. Who's the chump now?
Your petulance is laughable. Your disdain for your CUSTOMERS, the people who pay your salary, is going to be your downfall. You don't deserve success.

I swear some of you need to stop smoking weed. When the paranoia reaches the level that every siren that goes by your house makes you look out the window and flush your bag ....
The fact is we dont hate the game, actually we all wanted to see it be successful at some point. Unfortunetly, that boat sailed many moons ago and these developers are well past even understanding the basics of how to make this game a success much less institute it This is our way, or at least my way, of telling them "Yeah, I was right " about this that and many of the choices they made over the years.
You could take smurfs and put them on this map and have 1000's players if you had a clue about providing players with good game mechanics. We could even have a high command papa smurf that orders all the smurfs around smurf village all halfassed...oh wait that would be to similiar to the failure the game is today :P
I hate to go off on these tangents...but think of how many players a game like smurfs online would bring. Everyone trying to bang the one smurf chick, we could make gargamels house the pve content for purple smurfy items to wear and smurf pvp!
Sad but my idea in the above statement has more going for it than ww2online ever will unless the people involed are removed from the decision making process and someone finds 10 mil GL on that

What? It is not inconceivable that my opinion is true.. Go google "fake scandal for free publicity" FFS and you will be rewarded with thousands of stories to read. In the age of TMZ et cetara, its all the rage.

Well you nailed good ole doc and probably never even played the game. I concede and grant +rep
'Successful'? It's crumbling by the wayside. If any of the big game companies like Blizzard knew a niche and badly developed game would still be going 11 and a half (not 12) years they would of made one and developed it alot better (and would be alot more successful).
And those companies did. Just look at Planetside 1 and 2, and on a less related note, World of Tanks.
SOE is by no means a good company but even they have proven that:
a) This genre (wargame) is not as niche as CRS thinks and
b) You can make money off this genre by just being slightly attractive and attentive to customer's opinions (or at least not deride them)

It is as niche as CRS thinks.
Planetside 1/2 differ from WW2OL in the sense that PS12 are action packed wargames and WW2ol is a world war 2 simulation "game".
WW2OL only had 12,5k subscribers in 2001-2003 during the "amazing days" that some claim.(stayed 12,5 till 2006 whereafter no information is known). If it was so amazing then why didn't it jump to more players but constantly stayed steady the next years? Because the market is just really small for this type of game.
Planetside 1 and 2 don't really get that much players either, while their market imo is even bigger(just mmo-fps wargame). PS2 started with 30k and is now down to 15k and going down quick.

It didn't stay steady it fell (thats why they stopped showing the numbers pubilcly). CRS like to comfort themselves in thinking the market is smaller than it is rather than recognising that their advertising is poor. It's quite frankly embarrasing advertising to not have a dedicated youtube channel for a game which is trying to compete on the market in the year 2013. Likewise even the trailer just put out is on xoom's personal account, why not have it on a 'Battleground Europe' account? Though of course the devoted followers will say that having your advertising dotted around multiple offcial/semi official accounts (tubeafter, kfsone, Matt Callaham, wwiionline) is better.

I don't think the numbers accurately reflects the potential market size at all:
1) When WWIIOL first released it wasn't heavily advertised. In fact it wasn't even advertised to a lot of WWII buffs and wargamers. If it was, it would've been advertising in a lot of WWII wargame fans publications, which I basically see none.
2) Games like Planetside 1 or 2 actually actually more accurately reflects the older model of combine arms than futuristic warfare (I mean to be honest, if it was simulating even modern or futuristic warfare, bombs would've been laser guided, missiles would hit people before they can see them, etc).
3) Considering how well Battlefield 1 and World of Tanks did when they first came out, I think it is likely that a lot of people do like the WWII genre. Planetside 1 and 2 reflects how many people likely to be interested in the persistent world aspect in first person games. And games like Armas and Operation Flashpoint exposes how many people actually like hardcore milsims.
Also I'm sure your number on PS2 is quite wrong, because they can host 15k easily on EACH server. If it was only 15k playing the game in total PS2 would be ghost town considering how big the maps are and how many maps (3) each server has. However, it is not ghost town at all - in fact, big battles still often involve way over hundreds of people and many platoons and even smaller, localised battles you still see pretty close to full strength platoons dueling it out.
So from all those observations, I really doubt the "niche-ness" of this genre.
