combustibility factoring

SiphonsSiphons Member Posts: 445

To pick up the mood in the RV forums, I thought it would cheer you lot up, if we changed the topic to setting things on fire!!! ::::40::

17: Will it be possible to burn buildings down?
Back to Top

Yes - all objects in the Roma Victor universe have a combustilibilty factor. That includes constructions.

Wow! So, all those roman slaves could end up just setting their master's loft on fire, and chickens too! those have to be set on fire. ::::31::

This will be yet another revolutionary step RV has taken, and perhaps the most dangerous. Deep down, aren't we all little pyromaniacs? If the community runs rampant, how will we ever be able to live on a successful farm? You know that just about anyone who see's a building out in the open, no one else around, is gonna watch it Burn. Heck, I just might even set my own little building on fire, for fun.

    Dude...if I am a Roman Slave...my masters house is going down!!!!! IF I am a Barbarian I am going to burn down the Roman Legions Barracks. If I am a Roman citizen I'm gonna burn down the emperors house...and the senate to go along with it. I will also go and burn down player owned houses. Hopefully I can have a torch as one of my weapons....while riding a horse. My army of barbarians will probably burn down any settlements we find on the way. Who knows...we might burn down the trees to.

    Hopefully the guards in all the cities wont be like really good 'cause I might just start burning people (anyone remember the great fire in Rome in Nero's time?

    If you're attending (new to the game), you can't set things on fire. You can start doing stuff like that when you're freed after you're established, IE when you have something to loose in return.

    Do players have a combustibility rating? LOL As my character becomes more advanced in the senate and turns morbidly obese will my cobustibility rating increase?

    Congratulations! You just gained an additional 15 pounds. Your combustibility rating is now +45! Perhaps you should visit the vomitorium?

    This is one of the kickassest features ever.

    You know how in Star Wars Galaxies, it takes you a week just to build a lousy tiny house.  Well SONY made it that way because everything is indestructable.  Now I bet it only takes a day or less to build a house, cause you dont need any ballancing.  Anyone can come along burn it down and take all your land.

    So I bet it takes far less time to build things.  :)

    I'm sorry, you're incorrect. ::::39::

    Anyways, (right now) it takes a real-life week for about 10 guys to build a simple roundhouse. This will make housing expensive, actually be worth something, and prevent the SWG Ghost towns. Of course, you could always recruit more PC's or hire a lot of NPCs to speed up the process, but that costs money.

    Im assuming there is a way to put the fire out before it burns the whole place down ?

    You know...I've never thought about that (lol).  I'm sure that there will be a way.  If not...then... I'm not sure.image

    Maybe I will get an occupation in-game of soaking everyone's hut with water every couple hours so they are fire-retardant.image

    Then that would be bad.  Nobody will like a hard-come, easy-go type of game.

  • TrakenTraken Member Posts: 172

    Who said burning a house down would be easy? I think if someone get's past you and your guards to burn your house down, them actually burning it down is the least of your problems.

    I have to disagree with your statement of "Nobody will like a hard-come, easy-go type of game." This type of game (if RV is one) builds up anticipation of having a house, the joy of finally owning one, the suspense of being able to lose it, and the grief/happiness of losing/not losing it. Who says a game needs to all be good emotions? ::::17:: (In case you can't tell, I love a hard-come, easy-go type of game. Mainly because once it's gone you can do it all again! ::::33::)

    ::::06:: Urge.. To burn things... Restricting leg movement.. And normal talking..

    Must.. Not.. Burn.. Neighbor's house..

    Too late.. ::::27::

    Truth is deep down inside we are all insane.

    Also, i hear Elysium (The afterlife of RV) has nasty suprises for arsonists.. So all it will take is a single mistake and an arrow in the neck and you might be stuck in a burning house of irony trying to escape from the afterlife. Just use a rat flail.

    Nobody is going to put up with spending as much time as it takes in SWG to build indestructable items (like ships, houses, and vehicles), where in Roma Victor where it can be destroyed by simply setting it on fire.

    SWG ballanced indestructable items with absurd build times (cost requirements to buid one, time involved playing the game to buy or build one), but now that it is destructable, everybody is going to hate the time involved.

    This wont fly.

    Oh! Oh! I have an idea! Build your houses out of stone? In the Mid Republic severeal floors could be made entirely out of stone, you may lose all your furniture, but any good Roman knows not to keep his valuables where they could be destroyed. Your precious structure will still stand.

    Then it wont be ballanced, and nobody will build houses, except the powergamers and 1337's.

    For one it depends how smart you are.  If you are smart you will build your house somewhere that is near a city.  Second I would suppliment the town guards with some guards of my own.  I would also assume that fire has to be continually applied at least for awhile before it will burn on its own.  To my knowlege you can build buildings as quickly as you have supplies unless it is something that would need to dry or something just as in real life.  They may balance it but, I would assume they will leave it how it is because they probably have a time fraction compared to regular time that will determine how fast things happen.  So speeding it up would ruin the realism.
