Anthropology of Permadeath and alternatives

Gronk88Gronk88 Member Posts: 1

I've read several posts on +/- of permadeath.  I think there is a demand for it, but I don't think a game will survive if EVERYONE is subject to permadeath.  That simply narrows the field of players too much.

I think it would be interesting to have a skill unlock permadeath.

For instance,  let's say "Rights of the Englishman" was a gateway skill.   If you learn that skill, then you can be killed.

This esentially gives people the option of how they want to play the game.

you need  rights  for a few other skills. most of the combat skills are unlocked via self defence and back ally pugery not rights of englishmen. so making that flag you for pvp is kinda pointless :/ as it  does nothing but gives you the option to attack people. doesnt really help you stop them attacking you first.

Another option could be having three different server types:

    1. Open PVP

    2. Open PVP + Full loot

    3. Open PVP + Full loot + Permadeath

Similar to Tibia online, this could give the players the opportunity to choose a game style.

I gave up on Salem after a few days, was just TOOO slow for me.    But I can tell you this, breaking up the already small population into smaller cliques because some people dont want PvP and others do, wont help the game any.   Look at Wurm Online, a far older sandbox that did this exact thing, and you at most have a few hundred people on any one server at any time.

So much crap, so little quality.
