By that I mean twitch combat. Not autoattack and the random numbers computing our blocks/misses/parries/ripostes and all that other stuff. Console hack and slash is getting better every title, but MMOs keep giving us this autoattack and snooze crap, or autoattack and hit 1, 2, 3, 4, repeat. Is anyone looking forward to the first MMO to utilize this besides me?

Someone tell me why these people are calling it console style combat? Everytime I see twitch combat called that I just want to punch the culprit in the face .
Well to the topic I guess, there are already twitch MMOs out there(planetside and Project Entropia for example, and all being on PC I might add), and if you don't like those there are plenty of upcoming twitchy MMOs to look forward to. Autoattack helps the servers not lag to hell, and a well done autoattack system also adds many layers of strategy that you won't come by in fast paced twitchy combat. Twitch combat annoys me when people start warping around, latency/lag really becomes a bigger issue with twitch combat as opposed to autoattack systems.

What? you mean like this??
I think a lot of people are looking forward to some more twitch based MMOG's.
Despite being 46 and somewhat less than lighting fast in the reaction department I also am a bit tired of the easily QB/icon systems in use at the moment.
Jimmy - have you played that ? - Is it worth a look ?
The only MMO I know of with full twitch-based combat is Roma Victor, check out the link below

No Nullpax, I haven't gotten to play it yet. It's on my indie gaming "to do" list. As soon as I get bored with Warning Forever and Rag Doll Kung Fu I'll probably try Walkover..... If I haven't found something new and forgotten about it.
I actually found that link on a top 200 site. MMORPG / MPOG top 200 was the name of it I think.
enjoy!
I didn't know about that site, nice one, cheers
why has noone mentioned Rakion yet?
www.rakion.com
The Chronicle is a twitch based MMOG.

"When people tell me designing a game is easy, I try to get them to design a board game. Most people don't last 5 minutes, the rest rarely last more then a day. The final few realize it's neither fun nor easy."
I call it console style combat, because its found on the console, mainly. The optimal preference would be using a controller not your keyboard. Please tell me what strategy is involved in clicking the number 1 and going afk. All it does for me is make me sleepy with boredom. IMO, twitch gets you more mentally involved.
Maybe you're misunderstanding me. I am talking about combat like God of War, Dynasty Warriors, Shaolin Monks, Street Fighter. Games like these.
Rakion isnt an mmorpg. It's an Online Action RPG.
I don't agree that a gamepad would be the optimal choice for a non auto click MMORPG because I prefer the mouse and keyboard for almost any game. Which is why I never buy consoles anymore.
But I do strongly agree with the starter of this topic. I've been complaining about the same old MMO's comming out for awhile now. It's time for somebody to release an MMORPG for broadband users. A game where we hack and slash and control every movement

yeah, I'm kinda amazed that they haven't come out with AT LEAST a multiplayer online version of Dynasty Warriors. I'm thinking that there are alot more issues with fighting games over the 'net than there are with shooters and RPGs. You don't really see alot of online fighting games, even on consoles. DOA3 and Mortal Combat: Deadly Alliance are noteable exceptions, but most online fighting games are found on the XBox. There are, to my knowlege, no online fighting games for the PC. And that's just taking into account one-on-one combat. An MMORPG could have THOUSANDS of players mashing out button combos and they all have to be timed correctly even with packet loss and variable connections speeds. I'm on broadband, but lately I haven't been able to get less than a 250 ping on America's Army while I usually pull about 20 to 40 ping on Soldat.
Most makers of fighting games won't even touch online gaming, broadband only or otherwise, because of timing issues that occure with packet loss. Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 5, and Virtual Fighter 4: Evolution are all offline games despite the fact that they were made for broadband capable consoles and the players practically threatening to car bomb Namco's and Sega's offices if they didn't include online.
This basically tells me that there something unique about melee combat games that makes them all but impossible to do over the internet. We may have to wait until the next big jump in bandwidth (10 or more mps) before we see anything like this.
Dungeons & Dragons Online is going to be twitch (yay)
umm... wait for that... it might be good if they work at it enough

I did say an autoattack system DONE RIGHT, do you consider the ability to press one button and going afk and still winning the right way?

But not even close to being a MMORPG.
phantasy star online and the upcoming phantasy star universe are twitch based.
"Who am I to blow against the wind?"
Auto Assault is DEF the most twitch based Mmorpg on the horizon.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
How about , Planetside , Jumpgate , Neocron, Vendetta , WW2 online upcoming games like Pirates of the Burning Sea , Huxley , Auto Assault, The updated Star Wars Galaxies and I'm sure a ton of other non listed indy games.
I'd say Ragnarok Online plays a lot like a console rpg.
darkfall....
