An Admission of Guilt, SOE announces refund for TOOW

Looks like SOE's legal dept has reacted to the complaints.
On November 3rd we announced our exciting new game enhancements for Star Wars Galaxies. We believe these modifications will significantly improve the gameplay experience and deliver a true Star Wars adventure. However, if your Star Wars Galaxies account was in good standing as of November 3, 2005, you purchased the latest expansion pack, Star Wars Galaxies:Trials of Obi- Wan before November 3, 2005, and you find that these new enhancements are not to your liking, you may request a refund of the purchase price of the Trials of Obi-Wan expansion pack.
In order to obtain a refund, you may do either of the following on or before December 1, 2005:
(1) Send an email to refunds@soe.sony.com
(2) Send a written request for a refund t

Please include in your email or written request your name, address, telephone number, email address and Station Name (but NOT your password).
You will be asked for information verifying your request and, upon the issuance of a refund, your access to any Trials of Obi-Wan content or features will be removed from your Star Wars Galaxies account. Please allow four to six weeks for processing.
It is our mission to provide you with an experience that is worthy of the name Star Wars! May the Force be with you!

Many are reporting that their email gets bounced back, must be a full mailbox.
Im not sure if I could get a refund as I ebayed my account anyway.
LOL, They owe us for the FIRST CU, stupid idiots not fixing the original game in the content of what it was.
Negative press works wonders I guess.
Hopefully they get tons more of it for totally pissing away the potential this game had.
Bad publicity had nothing to do with this. And for those that flamed me for offering links to the FTC, BBB, and posting info on the laws governing misleading advertising and business practices...BLEH to you, I was right.

Take a look at the date they use. They specifically announce anyone on Nov 3rd or earlier. Why did they give that specific date and NO refund after the date...simple thats when the NGE announcement took place.

Well when I talked to the FTC, I was told that SOE might have broken the law and they were investigating. I dont know if they could haev investigated so fast. But it is possible when SOE saw what they were up against they gave out refunds. Or all the screaming and shouting got heard.
Either way the fanbois were wrong. Either wrong about the laws they pretended to know. Or they were wrong when they kept saying people should just go quietly and leave SWG to the players who enjoyed it. So now you see what screaming and shouting can do.

This is not an admission of guilt. Since they don't offer the option in game to play with the rules you want, they offer you a way out.
And yet, peoples trash SoE again. Others companies like Blizzard when they do something similar, they get praises. SoE always get trashed. Trash all you want, SoE lacks at creating the games I want, but as a company, they are top notch and this is just another proof.
SoE cares like no other company that I know off. They may be a bit goofy, but they care a LOT. The best CS a MMO ever got.
SoE was always nice to their customers (or trying to be nice and goofing around). Yet peoples keep trashing.

I believe Anofalye is having an extreme case of denial. I haven't seen it this bad in face of such opposition. Or he is still high from whatever he was smoking.

Anofalye I've always respected you, and your opinions. After reading what's quoted above though. Just makes me wonder though. Blizzard hasn't done anything even close to what SOE has been doing to their games lately.
The negative comments towards SOE aren't without merit. The sweeping changes they've been making to not only SWG, but EQ2. Have been like a slap in the face to most of their customer base. Alot of people have shown a dislike for the changes they been making as of late. In my book that isn't 'caring' about your customers.

It's not about the game and what they've done to it, it's about conning people into buying a soon-to-useles-product and knowingly doing so.

SOE has more than enough money to drag ANY lawsuit out over time so much that the suing party would not win ANYTHING. With that said i will definately be picking up toow now. They did not have to do anything but now they have and you jedi and bounty hunters still cry . GET OVER IT.
Just because a coorperation HAS money doesn't mean they want to part with it. They KNEW that it would cost them MUCH less to give refunds than to drag it into courts with 100 dollar an hour lawyers.
A court where they could not only lose, but set a precident towards the MMORPG community.
And they still get to spin it "out of the kindness of their hearts".. when the community is so against them.

IMHO....
I think it was more a PR move than to avoid a lawsuit. They knew they cheated the players and they often suffer from negative press when people band together under a cause like that.
Now those who were up in arms and distributing polls and pettitions against SOE have no reason to continue. They gave you the money back....

When did Blizzard fundamentally change the game, while giving their playerbase a two-week notice? Oh right, they haven't. ^_^

Yes, this move is an admission of guilt. SOE/LA released an expansion and then quickly dropped the news that the game will fundamentally change two weeks later. I could understand SOE/LA making some tweaks here and there to the SWG, but not on this scale. SWG: NGE is basically a new game.
Having said that, in the least I'm glad SOE/LA came to this decision. Ultimately it was the right thing to do for their customers.

I played the first everquest game for five years, the second for approximately ten months and star wars galaxies for around a year in total, both before the first CU and after it.
I know how sony operates, ive seen them slap their customers in the face time and time again by jerking them around, promising things only to never deliver or implement the exact opposite of the things theyve promised in their games...
Anyone who thinks, even for a second, that this wasnt planned out as a quick cash grab on the expansion and that the refund isnt a way to weasel out of getting sued en-masse by every player who bought said expansion and is unhappy with it needs to open their eyes.
Seriously folks, SoE dosent care at all about you as a player, they dont give half a rat's rectum about what you think or what you want. They care about a single thing... $$$
Personally im glad i jumped ship and left SWG months ago, currently playing lineage 2 and while the game has it's faults and I know for a fact that NCsoft dosent care at all what I think, its a solid game that looks great and wont change dramatically every few weeks at the whims of devs who have no clue as to what the playerbase actually wants.
Sony will never again get a single penny from me, I urge those of you who have been burned by this latest fiasco to boycott every sony/lucas arts product you can in response, hit em where it hurts, the wallet.

It was underhanded what they did, and they are giving a refund to avoid a class action lawsuit and to quell the voices of discontent. Let's just hope they learn something from it.
I'm gonna keep my expansion as I love the NGE and the new game, plus I like my lava flea.
